For anyone who hasn't heard yet: the new DJ Shadow album will be called "The Less You Know the Better" and it's going to be released on September 5th. A week ago he released the I Gotta Rokk EP which is for all of us who just can't wait for the new album and includes six tracks: this song, "I've Been Trying", "I Gotta Rokk" and a remix of each track. The EP should be out in the US today (17th).

Longtime Shadow fan. Honestly? I'm really liking this new direction. If his new album sounds more like this track, I'm a fan. To me, it does sound like a fusion of his classic sound with a foray into experimenting with electronica.

Sadly for me this track proves that Shadow is way behind the times in terms of electronic music. Flying lotus, Burial, Noon et al combine modern electronic styles in a much more atmospheric and interesting way.

He still hasn't quite found a new genre that he's comfortable with but it's comendable that he's trying.

I fear its time for Shadow's music to become part of the growing vinyl archive in his favourite record shop basement and to accept that he's had his day!

He will prove you wrong. There isn't an artist out there who wouldn't want to work with shadow....the artist you mention are unknown and obscure. Not only that they don't use time scales they way shadow does.
