In my opinion if we were like Larry Elder we would all stop pointing out where the system is flawed and look at everyone as if they have equal opportunities in all parts of life which is not true. Larry was given the chance to attend a prep school in Westmont which many minorities and poor whites do not. America has favored its top 1% of the social elite since its founding. 30-40yrs. of progression has not ended the problems that has caused.
I am only a college student so far and still have a lot to learn about the hidden racism and stereotypes that exist that hold back ethnic minorities. We have a long history of racist policies in housing, education, employment, and healthcare and I know we have not addressed them all. Such as education and the way the tracking system can be used as a racist tool.
Don't be ridiculous. Of course not no one is saying that. I'm saying minorities, women, and the poor have historically been discriminated against and still currently have many hurdles to go through and many do not make it through them by no fault of their own.
I am just fighting for equality of opportunity with the hope for equal outcomes. Help make the job market equal for everyone, give everyone equal education, access to healthcare, and decent housing.
I am black and I can honestly say that the views expressed on this forum by some blacks illustrate the problems some blacks face in obtaining employment. When I apply for a job, I try to present the best credentials and try to out do others, regardless of the employer's views on race. How you present yourself, how you speak, etc., matter. The problems hindering some blacks start at home, where education and hard work aren't encouraged and rewarded, it's unfortunate. Race is largely irrelevant.
As for vouchers these are only temporary solutions. It doesn't fix public schools and private schools in urban areas usually will still be too expensive for the voucher to cover and if the student is reading and doing math below grade level most of the better private schools do not offer classes for students left behind especially on the middle and high school level, and those schools do not have room for EVERY kid in a failing school. Many will still be left in failing schools.
White racism as in Jim Crow may not be as prevalent but stereotypes still exist and hold back many Blacks starting in elementary schools when they are placed in remedial classes. A Princeton professor also did a study a couple years ago and Blacks are still seen by many employers as lazy with a chip on their shoulders and will hire a white man with a criminal record at the same rate as a black applicant without a record.
You didn't address anything I wrote about previously. Working hard in remedial classes get you what? Not a chance at college which is beginning to be the minimum requirement for a job paying a living wage.
If an employer views a certain race or gender as negatively, a nice resume doesn't get you hired as often as those of the race or gender viewed positively with the same credentials.
Working hard with an unqualified teacher doesn't give those students an equal chance either.
Being black, I think Larry makes a great point here. America could hardly be called a racist country anymore. If America is racist, blacks from elsewhere in the world would not have come and done remarkably, even better than blacks born in the US. Race is no longer a problem in the US, at least not to the extent that it usurps your hard work, credentials, efforts, etc.

Larry Elder is clueless. He does not have the intellectual integrity of Ron Paul. Larry Elder is engaging in the type of race baiting that he accuses Democrats of. Some of his points are valid but some are downright asinine. I could itemize all the stupid things I have heard him say but I won't... until my book comes out :)

In my opinion if we were like Larry Elder we would all stop pointing out where the system is flawed and look at everyone as if they have equal opportunities in all parts of life which is not true. Larry was given the chance to attend a prep school in Westmont which many minorities and poor whites do not. America has favored its top 1% of the social elite since its founding. 30-40yrs. of progression has not ended the problems that has caused.

I am only a college student so far and still have a lot to learn about the hidden racism and stereotypes that exist that hold back ethnic minorities. We have a long history of racist policies in housing, education, employment, and healthcare and I know we have not addressed them all. Such as education and the way the tracking system can be used as a racist tool.

Don't be ridiculous. Of course not no one is saying that. I'm saying minorities, women, and the poor have historically been discriminated against and still currently have many hurdles to go through and many do not make it through them by no fault of their own.
I am just fighting for equality of opportunity with the hope for equal outcomes. Help make the job market equal for everyone, give everyone equal education, access to healthcare, and decent housing.

I am black and I can honestly say that the views expressed on this forum by some blacks illustrate the problems some blacks face in obtaining employment. When I apply for a job, I try to present the best credentials and try to out do others, regardless of the employer's views on race. How you present yourself, how you speak, etc., matter. The problems hindering some blacks start at home, where education and hard work aren't encouraged and rewarded, it's unfortunate. Race is largely irrelevant.

As for vouchers these are only temporary solutions. It doesn't fix public schools and private schools in urban areas usually will still be too expensive for the voucher to cover and if the student is reading and doing math below grade level most of the better private schools do not offer classes for students left behind especially on the middle and high school level, and those schools do not have room for EVERY kid in a failing school. Many will still be left in failing schools.

White racism as in Jim Crow may not be as prevalent but stereotypes still exist and hold back many Blacks starting in elementary schools when they are placed in remedial classes. A Princeton professor also did a study a couple years ago and Blacks are still seen by many employers as lazy with a chip on their shoulders and will hire a white man with a criminal record at the same rate as a black applicant without a record.

You didn't address anything I wrote about previously. Working hard in remedial classes get you what? Not a chance at college which is beginning to be the minimum requirement for a job paying a living wage.
If an employer views a certain race or gender as negatively, a nice resume doesn't get you hired as often as those of the race or gender viewed positively with the same credentials.
Working hard with an unqualified teacher doesn't give those students an equal chance either.

Being black, I think Larry makes a great point here. America could hardly be called a racist country anymore. If America is racist, blacks from elsewhere in the world would not have come and done remarkably, even better than blacks born in the US. Race is no longer a problem in the US, at least not to the extent that it usurps your hard work, credentials, efforts, etc.

How uneducated an answer is this. Racism exist as much as it did years ago. It is just more hidden than ever before. That guy is a nut and whoever believes what he says is a nut also. You all know dam well racism exist and is even worse than before. There are too many examples and situations to deny this fact.
