Why is that Mary could get engaged at 13 ½ and could have been married at 15, but Pa said that Laura had to wait until she was eighteen?? That doesn't really sound fair, is it just because he doesn't like Almanzo?
@MissKreutzfeldt I agree its not fair, the reason why is because mary is a little bit more mature than laura. mary knows how to handle situations better than laura does. laura acted childish sometimes so that is why her pa wanted her to get married when she was older that way the older she is the more mature she will be to handle a marriage. and laura and her pa were very close to each other as well.
Mary was very young in the episode,13 and a half years old but at that time young girls get engaged very early. Some girls married at 14 or 15 years old but they had not the same mentality than girls nowadays and were more mature. It was another times and upbringing.
maybe charles got his notion that a woman shouldnt marry til shes 18 (epi sweet 16 laura&almanzo) because of how this thing with john and mary ends...young people change their minds
Mary was so sweet and lovely!and john was handsome too.Mary was the opposite of laura, sweet and quiet, whereas laura was quick and always ready for a fight.
Starting at 3:14, notice how many times John Jr. drops the letter Mary brings him to read. At 4:02, John Jr. remarks that he soon will be paid for writing...the thing that he loves doing most in life. He then quickly changes writing to be the second thing he loves doing most for money. It sounds that he is implying that Mary pays him for sex. This is episode 13 from season 3 titled "I'll Ride the Wind." The John Jr. character was indeed killed off in season 8, episode 8 titled "Chicago"
What a touching series and of course... always unforgetable. The above locations are gorgeous andone know where they were filmed - wasn't Simi valley?
Emo2000, can you please post the episode The Little House Years, all three hours. If possible. or/and if you have time to also post Sylvia. Both I wish to see but are not yet avalible on you tube. thanks!
i am sorry, but I do not have The Little House Years... I also apologize for not getting back to you and other LHOP fans on your questions you guys ask me. Lately, school and work have become a major priority in my life. I have had very little free time these days... However, I hope you and other LHOP fans will continue to enjoy my LHOp vids as well as the LHOP vids of fellow fans of the show!
it was tougher for Charles to let his half-pint go. she had to wait until 17 and that was a compromise. yeah I think 15 is way too young but understand the situation back then.
Radames Pera was and still is of the best looking young men I have EVER seen! Pa was very hot also. Especially when he ran around with pants and suspenders on with no shirt!
Yes- much later on (don't know the season), he was a newspaper reporter and was killed by some corrupt construction worker who was scared that John was getting too close to finding him out......
If you watch the end of that episode, the kid who becomes Mary's new boyfriend is named Patrick. In that particular episode he is played by Mike Lookingland, Bobby Brady. You might recall that Melissa Anderson played Bobby's first girlfriend on the Brady Bunch. In the ff episodes though someone else plays Patrick.
Mary is 13 years old and she gets married!!

@harrypottergeekish I know half pint is Laura. I was saying it was harder for Charles to let Laura marry at 16 when she fell in love with Almanzo.

@tamidawn11 Melissa Sue Anderson wasn't bad herself in this episode. Almost surreally beautiful - like something out of Middle-earth.

I think it was because Mary was more matured than Laura was at 13?

Pa wanted Laura to wait until she was 18 for her to marry Almonzo but then changed his mind and told Laura that she can marry Amonzo at 17. :)
