  • Has to be one of the best of Herb Alpert and the TJ Brass!

And I believe this is Herb Alpert's ONLY singing hit!

Would play those albums endlessly as a kid in the late 60's!

  • This one's been around for a long time, and I still dig it : )

    XX

  • I'm 52 and listen to everything from the Beatles to Iron Maiden. I have this song on my Ipod and.

unfortunately, most of the music really sucks today.

  • #1 for several weeks in the summer of '68.Thanks for posting

  • Last year of high school for me. 1967. My best friend and his girlfriend who we were both in love with though he never knew. Haven't seen her in 35+ years. You always remember the ones who got away. Never told anybody. Their song.

  • Great song for Herb . I love to hear it but I live in Denver . The music outhouse of the world

  • did wikipedia search for the number one song on my day of birth. Great song, thanks herb alpert

  • Just discovered this to have been the billboard mag. chart #1 U.S. hit, the day I was born, July 1, '68. Always dug this type of music. Bacarach (sp?), Carpenters, etc. Aside from Speed Metal & '70s Hard Rock, that is. Great Tune. Dusty Springfield's version is also great.

  • I have been lucky enough to see both Herb Alpert and Burt Bacharach perform this fantastic song live. superb.

  • wow..haven't heard this song is sooooooo many years..the 60's...awe yes..grwoing up...learning life..soo confusing during those days...but..11th street..sooo many memories..

  • Perfect vocal. Subtext is all there.

  • DEDICATED TO MY WIFE STEVIE!!!! I STILL SEE HER WHEN I LOOOK INTO HER EYES ...THAT BABE I PROMISE TO BE AND GROW OLD WITH HER,,,ITS BEEN 23 YEARS,,SHE THINKS I NEED SOMEONE YOUNGER,,A 19 YEAR OLD....I MARRIED A 19 YEAR OLD AND STILLL SEE HER AS I DID 23 YEARS BEFORE WHEN I LOOKE INTO HER EYES

  • @konablue355 - May you have another 23 times 2. And I hope Stevie can relax and enjoy what a good man she apparently has married!! Cheers.

  • @konablue355 your wife is a very lucky lady,as am reading your post my tears are rolling down my face. not kidding

  • Loved all his horn and woodwind arrangements with the Brass.

  • And to think he didn't want to sing!! Thank God he did!! This is a classic. A true classic.

  • Thanks for sharing

  • You're welcome, PJ92386-san!!

  • gorgeous song now and forever! great collaboration btw Bacharach & Alpert.

  • I like this song, will live in memory.

  • I ♥ this song!

  • This is the kind of song I usually don't care very much for. It's a nod to an earlier generation of singers like Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Perry Como. They all have some good songs, but I don't really care to listen to them. But for some reason, I really like this song.

  • @StarRiders100 And without the likes of Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams & Perry Como, what do you think music would have been like in those days?

  • Still love it!

  • @Nickie0016 It's timeless and I still love it too Nickie!!!!!!!!

  • I just love this song its so simple but so romantic.

  • Inolvidable y bella cancion muy evocadora.

  • i am so stuck in the past and this is one of many songs that sail me back to the past ehere i belong.

  • I finally got around to hear this song and this is a true definite love song of it's time and still is. I was born three years after that song was out and never golt around to hear it on the oldies station till now. Great song.

  • Very hard to comment on "Perfection" !

  • @burkerp3 Thanks for the tip. I listened to it, but I may be partial to the soulful vocals of black women, to be frank. Aretha Franklin does an interesting take on it & Ella Fitzgerald too; both are different enough not to be a straight cover. But of course credit goes to Burt Bacharach for writing it & Herb for 1st singing it. Petula has a nice voice; she's one of the few British women of significance.

  • You're welcome, haldaca-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • @haldaca such a beautiful, touching song. i think & sing this when i'm in love.****

  • pure class ...

  • I was dating a young lady when this song was on. Everytime I hear it, I have to go back to a younger, more beautiful time in my life. Music is definitely a double edge sword.

  • i was 6 when my mom would play this and i was sure that this is how it would feel when "love" happened...

  • An impeccably crafted song beautifully performed.

  • One of my favorites that takes me back to when I first thought I was in love, smile. Still works. Thanks for posting.

  • You're welcome, elangelphoto-san!!

    Otaku3 (^_^)/

  • im 21 and i love this song... its just so beautiful and so well put together also the quality is excellent too... thank you for this beautiful classic

  • You're welcome, lawlor95-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)v

  • The most romantic, saddest song ever composed? A good argument could be made to that effect...

  • Why is this song so moving? I'll tell you: We know Herb Alpert mainly as an instrumentalist from the 60' s up until now...he's a fabulous trumpeter. But to hear his voice... so simplistic in nature and very genuine! We can relate because we've been there and this song reminds us...Remember how it was???!

  • i just melted when my ex boyfriend sung this to me! we still love each other!

  • I remember hearing this song for the first time at a party celebrating the end of our freshman year in high school. Guys and gals were cuddling in the parlor as I recall while this song was playing. It was mid June of 1968! I finally figured out what nostalgia is.... it is after 30 or more years when you finally realize it is time to savor either a time period or a song of your youth that you took for granted, not realizing back then, that years and years would pass by, before it is too late.

  • I am 50 years old. My mom (now 75) played this song over and over when I was a wee lad. It's ingrained in my soul...

"my hands are shakin', don't let my heart be breakin'"

  • De las mejores canciones que he escuchado, excelente voz y acompañamiento musical

  • Am 50 years old and this song still makes me tingle like the first time i heard it as a young lad, thank you youtube and all you posters.

  • You're welcome, RedditchBhoy-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • @RedditchBhoy Same age here and I feel the same way, brings back many memories! Thanks for the upload.

  • @RedditchBhoy I'm near 66 but I feel exactly the same. Time has no effect on this performance. Just great!!

  • @RedditchBhoy My man i am 56 and great music; at the time loved hard rock ie zep, purple but great song to tell your lady... well you love her

  • @RedditchBhoy 50 here also, and still love this tune. :)

  • @RedditchBhoy I will be 52 in a few weeks - and this song still makes my hair stand on end. The last time I heard it was in 1977 - an old BF played it for our 'anniversary'. The memories....

  • @RedditchBhoy I'm 58 now, and the same goes for me. It really is a timeless classic !!!

  • I too was born in 63 and remember very fondly this song and Dione Warricks version. I also lived in the Bay Area at the time. I would love to hear Herb, Burt and others of that era. Our society needs melodious and heart felt romatic songs like this. This music brings back sooo many fond memories. I can only hope that this type of music will come back. We need it.

  • Comment removed

  • @Aliendear Beautiful comment <3 I feel the same, I was born in 1963 and am thankful that I was allowed to brought up with this music though I miss it so badly now.

  • I love this song so much!

  • Music, arrangement & piano by Mr. Burt Bacharach; lyrics by Mr. Hal David; vocals & trumpet by Mr. Herb Alpert! What a class act! Three musical geniuses on one song! A No.1 song from the summer of '68. It doesn't get any better than this! Thanks very much '60otaku3' for this upload. (And thanks for monitoring the comments to keep everything 'positive'!)

  • You're very welcome, wavehopper100-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • @wavehopper100 Yes, yes, thank you for pointing that out,wavehopper100! It is so nice to see positive comments. Wonderful job you are doing 60Otaku3, thank you for posting this beautiful song.

  • Burt Bacharach all the way....

  • This song has a timeless cool quality to it.

  • One of my all time favorite songs............I hit the replay button everytime because once is never enough!!

  • @zahkuz61 great song.. and full of nostalgia for me..

  • @SuperQueenofAfrica I totally agree!

  • This is my all time favorite version.. The only song Herb Alpert sang, everything else that he has done is just music, and he has a great voice.

  • I'm a sucker for this song, though I prefer Dionne Warwick's female version. Wouldn't mind a guy singing this to me. <3

  • Some of the comments written against this song are amazing, very personal and often touching, YouTube community at it's best...

  • @robertwilsdon

Absolutely right. Too often Youtube seems to be full of trolls and sad people who just want to upset everyone else. Maybe this beautiful song and beautiful rendition is the cure for these idiots. The peronal comments and memories written against this song are indeed amazing.

  • There's a girl I work with that I have a major crush on. I was watching her today as I worked, and this song started going through my head... the thing is, people really have told me "she thinks I'm fine..." I just don't quite have the guts to approach her.

  • @infamousmidnitewryte Being hesitant when you don't know if a girl you fancy is into you is understandable. That is not the case here. Go for it, man.

  • @infamousmidnitewryte Just do it! You've got nothing to lose really, unless you're already married or something.

  • thiagoschumacher,

  • Bela musica,é como estar navegando em um iate no mar com uma brisa no rosto sem se preocupar com nada.........

  • I was obsessed with this song as a 16 year old. Remember the old transistor radios with their old fashioned single earphone that wouldn't stay in? I used to lie on my bed and listen to every other song just waiting for this to be played again. My Dad started to kid me, as I began singing it over and over again without realizing it. Great memories....

  • Que hermosa fue mi juventud con esta mùsica hermosa, que bellos recuerdos....

  • Danced with Iris Hannon to this.

  • Who is Iris Hannon??

    It doesn't make sense....

  • @60otaku3 ...Then we just might be bros.

  • Happiness is driving a convertible on the Pacific Coast Highway listening to a song of Burt Bacharach like this.

  • @lapro97 I was 6 in 68 and was born at Hamilton AFB California in Marin County. Been all over the world since but have no memories of anyplace as strong as this. Hamilton no longer exists and if there is a god I will one day make it back there, listening to Herb Albert, Glen Campbell and Dionne Warwick and so many more, the entire time I am there....

  • @lapro97 Happiness seems kind of expensive

  • @lapro97
