@coolcut11 I am not a new kid and I had seen plenty of games with Eddie in it. He was a good player but he wasn't great player. Players that go to only 3 all star games aren't all that great to me.
@Domini478 But two of those came from the late 90's, times when it was so hard to get in. Seems like he just lost his passion when his contemporaries left. Anyway, it's my opinion and you have yours. I don't think Miami will honor him either. And lastly, learn how to respect other person's opinion and never assume that you have the right to say "this one is great, this one not" who are you to set a standard for greatness?
I think he's top ten all time in 3 pointers... 5 I think.. But he's defintely a three point shooter... and by far my favorite Heat Player all time.. growing up I mirrored my game after his in school and the parks I always shot threes just like ej.. I even copyied his form... Heat should retire his jersey
Worst trade the Lakers ever made. Glen Rice averaged 10 less points per game than Eddie Jones IN THE PLAYOFFS after the trade, EJ's defense would've been something Phil loved and they traded him to get more 3 point shooting. In the end, EJ ended up 5th all time in 3 pointers made right behind Glen Rice, who had made most of those 3's before the trade, while Eddie was still improving & moving up. He would've been a great #3 option.
@coolcut11 Yeah, Rice & Jones are actually 8th & 9th respectively now. I just meant when they retired. And Eddie shot a better % for the rest of his career in 3's than Rice after the trade took place.
He is the reason i started watching NBA ball and reason i became a Laker fan back in 1994 at the age of 9. Eddie is why i began to play bball so much and even to this day. WAS so underrated..he had so much potential..he was even one of the 4 Laker all stars back in the days (kobe shaq nick eddie).
TY EDDIE..i remember back in 1996 at the forum ppl chanting at the game EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE!!! Laker 4 life
All of you guys are right. Eddie was so unerrated. It seems like the you're only considered "really great" is when you have that ring. All of those players mentioned by liweiwu007. Now u can put E.J. in there with them. So unfortunate.
they traded him because kobe was blossoming into a star, and they desperately needed a 3 point shooter to complement shaq and kobe. had he stayed he would have won a few rings. same thing happened to charles oakley, he got traded before the bulls dynasty. and when he was on the knicks, he would get eliminated every year by the bulls. just unlucky, but in the nba it's biz
wtf do u mean eddie jones, and van exels replacements didn't do anything? glen rice did alot for the team, and we won a title with him. derek fisher replaced van exel and look what he did.
The Dallas Mavericks have acquired small forward Shawne Williams from the Indiana Pacers. Williams would help solve on of the Mavericks' ongoing issues, which is size and defense around the perimeter. Williams, a third-year pro out of Memphis, improved in each of his first two seasons in the NBA, averaging 6.7 points and 2.7 rebounds for the Pacers in 65 games last year.
As part of the trade the Mavericks will send swingman Eddie Jones and two future second round draft picks to the Pacers.
Williams for Jones and some cash was okay... But I can't believe they traded 2 second round draft picks. The mavs should really take care of draft picks.
@takoliticuz He is not of the greatest shooting guards of all time. He went to only 3 all star games and that was it. He had avg 14 points in his career. He was just a good role player.
one of the best... quick, great defender, underrated offensive threat (he could always score if he wanted but played team ball) and some of his highlights are just insane, just watch at 0:58 one of the best in game dunks ever... and this is often forgotten he is 5th all-time in 3pointers made, great shooter stil puttin them up... go eddie
Eddie Jones and Nick Van Exel were great basketball players. Shaq dissed them both, but not everybody is the son of an NBA player and had the opportunity to play with NBA players at a young age like Kobe Bryant did.
Kobe is a hall of famer, but that doesn't change the fact that Eddie and Nick had great careers and many fans will remember them for years to come.
Also, the Lakers were winning 60 games in the regular season and getting swept in the playoffs. Can't put that on EJ. If Phil had EJ..
the problem with eddie is better than "anyone" is that eddie does things that dont show up in the box score the next day. to me, ive been watching NBA for 25 years religously, he's the best perimeter defender i've ever seen. hands down. he's the best transition defender ive ever seen. he led all NBA guards in blocks in 6 of his first 7 years in the league. you can compare eddie to charles oakley, who did all the dirty work and stuff no one else wanted to do. thats why they are bth loved so much
i believe eddie's better than kobe.. eddie's much more of a team player while kobe doesnt even know how to pass the ball.. he just want to b a superstar in the court.
It hurt when the Lakers traded away Eddie. I didn't want to accept what my friends would say, that Eddie would disappear during the playoffs. I still think we gave up on him too soon. He deserved that first championship in 2000, along with Nicky V.
eddie's my fave player along with grant hill, penny hardaway and scottie pippen but all of them except scottie has been destroyed by injuries all career long.. what a waste. i believe eddie is far more better than kobe, kobe do not know how to pass the ball. eddie is better.
shit eddie and nick van exel was the shit back in the 90's what happened to them fucken injuries fucked them up......... lakers all the way fuck the suns........
eddie jones is my favorite nba player all time but he is so dumb he went to the mavericks he will never get a ring there as a matter a fact he will never get a ring mavs r cursed he had a better chance in miami
He would've been in Miami if Riley had given the offer sooner and not as an afterthought. Riley made a mistake, Jones wanted a bit of loyalty that he didn't get. Miami could use him now. Bad.
Man, Eddie rolling with Nick the Quick....god i miss those days. The Lakers winning the chips was all good, but those laker teams from the 90s will always have a special place in my heart
That was a great Mix i love dat mix Eddie is one of my favorite players in the heat b4, Now my favorite player Dwyane Wade got there but he is a great guy i hope he stays a heat and win a Championship with the heat b4 he retires. I am from Pompano Beach n His from Pompano Beach so he a Pno guy so keep on making eddie jones mixes his great.
I miss when Eddie Jones used to play aggressive now he justs wants to shot threes. I hope Miami keeps him, he proved he can still score when they resigned him. 1love Eddie
this is great. i have viewed this a couple of times and it never ceases to amaze what my/our idol can do on the court. back in LA, he was unbeleivable, & also in charlotte. anyways, now that eddie is back in miami, i hope he gets his championship ring. when you watch the video it was like fluid in motion, there's grace
when he attacks the basket. i wish he drives to the hoop more, i miss the dunks and great plays he does. go miami...
I have been an eddie fan since i was seven, It all started with NBA Shootout 97.(ireally dont know why) I will never forgive Riley for getting rid of eddie, that trade did absolutely nothing for them. It was only the progression of D wade that won the championship. Eddie is getting old, but i hope he never retires. I will name one of my kids after him, Eddie Jones Gillette.
i saw the entire miami heat season well duh i live in miami my favorite was at the buzzard half court he made it abut hes underlooked because of better players on the team like shaq and dwayne wade
Eddie Jones is one of my favorite players. Now, he's in Memphis playing mediocre, but I know he's still got game, just wait and see.
