come on now, the guy says the message of calories in vs calories out isn't working, then he goes on to admit that people are eating too much. it's not the message, then is it? it's the people not heeding the message. for an otherwise normally functioning person(no diseases like met. X syndrome, etc.) it will come down to net calories. control calories more efficiently and see what happens. also, we should be classing people as obese or not by bodyfat percentage. lots of skinnyfat people out thre
@amphaynes Thank god I have water bootle machines at my school, this is BIG if people don't change their life style. In 20 to 40 years from now more than 60-70% of children in the USA and more than 40-50% in Canada would become obese what a sad world filled with propaganda, laziness and corprate takeover.
@BeeZee1992 Yes, I used to work in the tourist area around Disney World. Funny, when I went to my internship in Washington, DC. I barely saw any obese people among the crowds. Social class has a lot to do with obesity. Just a fact.
We live in a culture of fast food, TV, motorized transport, and office work. It's no mystery why 1/3 of adults are obese and another 1/3 overweight. These are exactly the kind of people one would expect a society like ours to produce. The reason thin people are so admired is because their thinness shows that, in that respect, they've consciously, deliberately made of themselves the people they want to be, not passively let themselves become whatever their social environment would make of them.
An interesting result of a little research I did,or maybe QED,is that of the 10 fattest states in the US,9 voted Republican in the Presidential Election.Conversely out of the 10 slimmest states 9 went Democrat.Obesity of course is linked to excessive intake of meat and dairy and inadequate exercise.I think also in a very unequal, consumerist society of which the US is the prime example;to the poor cheap food is one thing they can consume;and boy do they consume!
I'm kinda short for eleven, my doctor says it's because I have an irregular growing pattern, the kids in my class are like five feet tall and I'm 4'8. However it's not neccarily a bad thing because I swim and i've built up great muscle and because of my slow growing pattern I have practically the metabolism of a lion :)
Don't write my email. You know I'm right. I'm going through "O" withdrawl now and for there is nothing worse besides suicide. An honest comment about "hurleys" is that 100% of these people have heredity problems. Just look at their family, and extended family. What help did I just do to tell you that? NONE. If your afraid to come out of your house because everybody you pass by says LARD ASS, Gona be in the macy's day float,? look at me , it not imposibble you fat ass.
I'll tell you how to reduce your fat problem. Find somebody with really large hands and have them place their hand around the neck of the obese persons neck and simply squeeze. They can't get any more food down their throat. If you continue about 6 minutes you'll solve the fat persons perpanently. I say this because if the US pop. had weight correct people, we would have a much cleaner society, after all, all that food will eventually be farted out. fat food place on every corner?
I've been careful with what I eat and I have been hungry years after years and I have exercised only and only to lose weight. And nothing. I seem to lose weight only due to stress. Some not nice things have been happening to me for the past 2 years and I've lost about 16kg since then.
Sorry, I see your point, but I can't agree. A person should make his or her choice on their own. Not all parents think in "healthy" terms, so if a kid doesn't make a choice of their own.... You may be talk about little kids, but children at about 10 should be already able to see themselves what is wrong. Be it even in the hard way, when the rest of the skinny kids around them mock them
Nutrition needs to be a more central part of the grade school curriculum.
And in recognization that this would bring out the judgemental to verbally and/or physically attack the obese children in playgrounds and cafeterias--a lesson in treating others kindly would be beneficial.
Where has this guy done his homework? . . . I know more people who lose weight because of stress than gain it. The weight gain problem is because of people stuffing themnselves with cheap, convienient, fatty foods. If you eat something that does not have nutrients the brain sends signals that it is still in need of something . . . give your body food that has crappy ingredients and then your body turns against; simple as that.
and our bodies go into a famine mode where it is thinking, "oh no, stress! Store food in fat cells" It doesn't recognize the difference between different types of stress.
I honestly think most people dont know what it is to really work out. They do something till its hard then stop thinking they have worked out and then wonder why they dont lose weight.
this is only part 1 but this guy makes it sound like stress is one of the main culprits of the obesity epidemic..that's beyond bogus..trust me, I know plenty of fat people who aren't stressed and they're still big..and I know over worked stressed people who are thin..he puts too much weight on the stress idea in this segment..i'll probably comment on the next portion
Uh, the fact that you personally know a couple of people whose experience runs counter to the general trend doesn't discount the general trend. At all.
I understand that these cues are incredibly influential. But everyone knows that overeating -> obesity -> bad health. We're not zombies. As adults, we still have the ability to make the choice about what's going into our bodies. Let's face it. Big Macs and candy bars taste good. It requires effort to pass these up and then to prepare something healthier ourselves.
Kids eat what's put in front of them. They are the victims here. It's up to the adults to make responsible choices.
I know when you say how ppl from outside the united states react to Americans because that was my first reaction as well. I was amazed by the number of overweight ppl around me. It was pretty depressing because I had a very high opinion of American ppl b4 that. Not that I don't now but it has decreased a bit since I've been here. Everyone who comes to the US I talk to have stated similar opinions.

Being regular/normal weight is not really being in shape...

Obesity is not the problem; it's the result of something else. Just like anorexia, it is caused by a mental problem.
