  • @Swayzee68: Don't know if you realized this, but the "Captain" (Edward Mulhare) went on to play Devon Miles in the '80s show "Knight Rider".

  • omg i had a crush on the captain sooo long ago,i hope they bring it out on dvd

  • Charles Nelson Riley was hilarious in this show. Or was that Please done eat the daisies?

  • Charles Nelson Riley was hilarious in this show.

  • I think we should write to our tv stations and request that they put on the old classics like these...as far as I'm concerned and I know this is my opinion but the shows now a days don't cut it.....

  • I love the way that Claymore got flung out on his tush by the Captain. He was such a weenie!

No wonder he denied that Claymore was a descendant of his.

I was around three years old when this first came on the air, not that I remember anything from back then. I used to watch it in reruns, but they always cut it to pieces.

I hope it comes to DVD soon. We need more stuff like this.

  • I loved this show (used to watch it back in the 1970s -- had SUCH a crush on the Captain!

  • Yes, this did air on fx in 1996.

  • This was my Mother's favourite TV series and I loved it too, happy memories.

  • This brings back memories of being a child in Jamaica in the 70's watching this. I had a crush on the captain...

    Thanks for posting...

  • ou...... crush on the captain.

  • A smashing show with two excellent leading stars and in Charles Nelson Reilly a super comedy talent.I remember watching it in repeats in the 1970s at 5.20 on a Tuesday afternoon here in England.

  • Weren't Keith Harris and Orville in one episode? A Christmas special I think!

  • Can we get some more of the pilot clip here?

  • This pilot clip was one of the funniest ever! Nothing like the TV shows back in the 80s! More, please!

  • Edward Mulhare is still the sexiest man to ever grace my tv screen. I had a major crush on him when this show was on in the 70's and he still does it for me today. *sigh* Bring back the beard!!

  • What a wonderful show this was when I used to sit for hours watching it. I had a major crush on the both Captains! Thanks for posting!

  • I just cant get over how much I love the opening theme. I used to watch syndicated reruns of this show (among many other classic tv shows) on weekday afternoons around the mid-1970s. Unfortunately they stopped airing it after a short run. As a result, I dont remember the episodes of this show the way I have others memorized. But the opening theme I still recall. It brings back sweet, nostalgic memories of me as a kid, sitting in front of the tv watching reruns of my favorite classic tv shows.

  • I'm sorry, but the Captain always scared the piss out of me as a kid.

  • Thanx to post this beautiful show, i watch in 70`s...

  • Dear dear Claymore, bless him, I have such fond memories of this show, and what great theme song this was!

  • Did'nt Charles Nelson Reiley play the grandson of the ghost?

  • Right actor - wrong relation. He claimed to be the Captain's great nephew. Daniel Gregg, however, denied this and claimed he was the only son of an only son and Claymore was no blasted relation of his!

I'm so glad I have at least the home made DVD's for this show, because I am beginning to think they will never be released to official DVD! I had a major crush on Edward Mulhare too!

  • This was the same "Gull Cottage" that was haunted by Rex Harrison in the hauntingly beautiful 1947 film. (Even portions of the original soundstage interior sets were reassembled.) This series was very cleverly drawn from the original dramatic period piece that originally took place from 1900 to 1946. Mulhare was again superbly following Rex Harrison (he'd replaced him in "My Fair Lady" on Broadway) and I had such a crush on lovely Hope Lange. R.I.P., Hope and Edward.

  • Great Show!

  • thanks for showing this!....i can remember watching this back in the 60's when color tv was gaining popularity.....hope it comes out on dvd soon......

  • Thanks for posting this show. I remember this show on Fridays as a child, along with "Get Smart", laughing and eating Jiffy Pop Popcorn which was the latest craze at the time!!!

    Thanks for the memories!!!

  • Claymore or Captain Gregg?

Edward Mulhare is/was sooooooo much better looking than ANY version of the Master!

(you caught him at a bad moment!)

  • Thanks for posting this show. I remember this show on Fridays as a child, along with "Get Smart", laughing and eating Jiffy Pop Popcorn which was the latest craze at the time!!!

    Thanks for the memories!!!

    Me too!

    memories!

  • he looks like the master from doctor who the john pertwee years

  • This show is a pathetic reroll of the wonderful original movie with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrisson.

  • I loved this show. The theme song was brilliant. Hope Lange was beautiful, Capt Greg was suave and nervous Charles Nelson Reilly was a scream! I remember it was a big deal when Martha (Rita Shaw) finally found out about Capt Greg's existance. Ha!

  • Loved this show as a child, has it ever been released on dvd?

  • Sadly, no - not as an official release. There was talk a couple of years ago but nothing yet. I treasure my home made DVD's! I even have some from TvLand broadcast in Australia. their color quality is excellent, though some of the edits were strange. TX cut at least three minutes from each show. I love making youtube vids using this show!

  • One of my favorite TV theme songs, along with the themes to Hogan's Heroes and Sweet Valley High.

  • I loved this show too, but I always thought the girl looked like a little boy.

  • Whether or not you are a girl or a boy has nothing to do with your hair. Kellie Flannigan's pixie haircut was her trademark in those days. She's a sweet little girl through and through!

  • Me too!

  • I loved this show when I was a kid. We had a dog like Scruffy. Wired hair fox terrier.

  • I remember reading somewhere that the animal trainer who took care of Scruffy got him from an animal shelter for $7.50. He sure was luckier than most poor dogs or cats who end up in a pound.

  • Thank you very much for posting this amazing introduction. I thought I'd never hear it again. This music takes me in 0,1 second to my childhood when we finish our homework and be ready to watch the sparks between Captain Gregg and Mrs Muir. Thanks. Thanks.

  • My favorite TV show when I was a kid. The sparks that flew between her and the captain. Be glad when it comes out on DVD!!!

  • What a thrill it was to watch this!!! THANK YOU!

I wish it would come out on DVD so I could watch my favorite episode "The Ghost Of Christmas Past" Thank you to ALL the stars of this TV show. They gave us so much more than they knew!

  • I used to watch this on Nick at Nite, coz I wasn't born til '88, and I have to say BEST SHOW EVER!

  • Is there any more iconic an image than Hope Lange at 2:49 beckoning "Come on!" with an upsweep of her arm? That scene has charmed me from the time I was four. Thank you so much for posting this loveliness.

  • My folks and I loved this show back in 1968. Whenever it thunders, my Dad says "it sounds like Gull Cottage!"

  • It's oct 2007 and i still regret not viewing this in new york city at the museum of the moving image (?).... is that the one?... was in midtown Manhattan... in 1996.

    Doug in London

  • This was to be released on DVD in 2005 or 2006! What happened?

  • Charles, you were a riot. We'll miss you, Chuck.

  • Thanks for putting this up here! I wanted to, but didn't know how to make the file small enough. I'm not really good at a lot of techno stuff!

    RIP Charles Nelson Reilly!

  • Thank you for posting this.
