@Sakuems so all the famous artists that draw from observation, still life/ portrait/realism artists, are not true artist huh. I think you are confusing concept artist vs portrait artist. Art is never created from nothing, it comes from what you see, learnt, imagine or feel.

@Sakuems You do realise a lot of famous paintings of Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Lautrec, degas were based on photographs right. even concept artist use photos, alex ross for example, draws super heroes by copying structure/lighting/facial detail from photos.

@TheBlueFenix yes, BASED on, but these artists are working with they own style/ way of painting, with different textures and not realistic colors, you can't compare. A drawing that is the almost exact copy of a picture and tend to be SO realistic it looks like a picture, it's useless and there's no creation or artistic feeling in it. you can make the difference between a Van gogh or a Lautrec, but for that portrait, it can be done by a lot of people, there's nothing that tells me "it's made by"

@TheBlueFenix And for Alex Ross, yes he uses references, like all artists does, but he recreates characters and he's drawing and coloring them in a specific way that makes you say "it's done by Alex Ross". On the other hand, as i said, there's plenty of "drawers" that can copy realistic pencils drawings and they are all working in the same way. that's the different. i want to see something more that make me think "omg he's really doing it it OWN way" u know wat i mean ? :)

@Sakuems all subjective dude, this is realism but not photorealism (check deviantart for the real photorealism drawers, those you can't distinguish one from another and looks exactly like photo), theportraitart definitely has his own style. plus you are only focusing on the final drawing and over looked the video as performance art in itself. like that blood drawing was unique and entertaining as hell. But w/e, there is no right or wrong.

@leothefatcat i'm a girl lol ! you're right it's not photorealism, i still can see some mistakes, this is not perfect and that's so much better than trying to be exactly like a photography, but you know if i lay down the same pictures done by differents artists, none one of them will do it the same way as the other did. but on youtube, there's plenty of "realistic pencils drawings artist" and i seriously don't see the difference between them :( ! As for the performance, i agree with you :)

can you give me the details of the paper and pencil you use. Cuz i can't to get the great range of tones so easily as you do. my charcoal pencils take more effort to leave a stroke on the page compared to my graphite pencils, which glide accross the paper, and easier to control tones with. Can you give any pointers Please. THANKS!
