@TyrannosaurusTitan Well, Neltharion is in deepholme. And for us to "stop" him from returning to Azeroth and causing the vast destruction that WILL engluf Azeroth when he emerges, we would have to ***Break Into*** (as in free him) Deepholme and kill him (Which we could not do now that the Red Dragonflight has been damaged so drasticaly and recently). So either way he wins, the meaning of this was to ease us into his return, and so the point that the races of Azeroth are powerless to stop him.

Yea I agree surprise is a stupid thing to waste, but who ever said Deathwing makes sensible decisions? He is crazy after all. He probably sees himself as invincible and not needing surprise. Whereas he would absolutely *love* to see everyone shitting themselves because they know he's coming back.

And even if the Alliance/Horde knew that Deathwing was coming back, they still had no idea where he was, so how could they have stopped him? And as for preparations: all preparations they might have had went out the window when Deathwing broke the world. They were expecting a dragon, not a completely shattered world.
