Yes, its great. Very common and cheap the older ones. The old ones still put out a very nice amount. This one I just grouped the 5 volt+ rail together.
Starter motors are made as cheap as posible while still getting the job done. They have copper or bronze bushings witch wearout and become loose. Thats your noise, there dead. Oil might help for a short time, or replace the bushings. I'm working on putiing ballbearings on a 1,5kW starter motor. Also i'm putting as many air holes in it that i can and maybe even a fan on the main shaft inside to alow longer run time before overheating. My goal is to make it withstand running an electric bike.
ha ha thats so funny when the thing jumps in the air when he turns it on

the problem is that you hit it with a pair of pliers. If you don't hit it and leave it running on your desk it will be fine. You're welcome.

Its not that I need Help, I posted this (a long time ago) just because it was interesting...
And anyway, like any other shaft or rotor, impact should not make it jam up and squeek> Like a lawnmower.

I see, I understand that. :D
They do seem cheap, and I am wondering how efficient they are? I am following your path, I would also like to make a motor scooter with one. ^_^.
Starter motors are cheap, and real scooter motors are effecient, but they cost 40-100 dollors :(
So lets see what we can do with these, hope to see what yours turns out like.
(I have a welder I am trying to fix up to use)
Thanks for your help,
Ben.

That sound is typical of worn or dry bearings.
