The song was not done originally by Aretha. The song was first recorded by Ben E. King in March 1962. King's version really didn't go over well, however. It was slow-paced and it really wasn't suited for King's otherwise beautiful voice. Nesuhi Ertegun, one of the writers of the song and older brother of Ahmet Ertegun, reworked the song for Aretha. She recorded it in March 1970 and it's become one of her signature songs.

The Original is from Ben E. King (1962), not from Aretha Franklin (1970), another wonderful Version is from Adriano Celentano (1977)

Despite her extensive and impressive vocal gifts (which she so effectively expressed here), Mariah Carey cannot trump Aretha Franklin in this song - at least in my opinion. She made a great tribute but this does not in anyway emulate the soulfulness of Aretha's version.

The song was not done originally by Aretha. The song was first recorded by Ben E. King in March 1962. King's version really didn't go over well, however. It was slow-paced and it really wasn't suited for King's otherwise beautiful voice. Nesuhi Ertegun, one of the writers of the song and older brother of Ahmet Ertegun, reworked the song for Aretha. She recorded it in March 1970 and it's become one of her signature songs.
