I literally cracked up in the movie theater when I watched this scene because their Cantonese accents are horrendous! It also didn't help that whoever wrote the script used really formal Cantonese so it's a bunch of tough mafia guys saying the equivalent of, "I order you to check that satchel!"

It is possible to speak another language w/an English accent. Not that an accent is wrong. Off the top of my head... I've heard French spoken with an English accent. (Les Aventures de TinTin) I've also heard Cantonese spoken w/ a Japanese accent. (No Regrets 巾幗梟雄之義海豪情)

Therefore, because the Chinese audience already has watched Infernal Affairs, and wouldn't pay any attention to a Hollywood remake, they created a buzz in the form of offensive content to get the Chinese audience to talk about The Departed.

It's just a American marketing method. Relax.
