  • @MySweetHope11 You can try spraying a little bit of alcohol into it.

  • to clean a potted lip product (NARS lip lacquer) would you spray rubbing alcohol into the pot, or let a little drip into the pot, then let the drops fall out and leave it to dry? Thanks!

  • thank you this was very helpful. i want to buy this makeup from eBay and want to sure i will have no problems.

  • Hii , did you say you swapped for that lip gloss ? And you disinfected it just like that and used it after and it was fine?

  • @x0xchristinagirlx0x For glosses with wands, it's just about impossible to sanitize them. I VERY rarely swap for used glosses for this reason but have never had any problems with them in the past.

  • Im just looking at your spray bottle, and can't you just twist the nozzle tighter to make the spray more..showery?

  • @PanduhPops Not on this bottle. It's a cheap crappy one, and that's why I ended up buying a better one later. :)

  • @pinkiecharm Ah, okay. Just a suggestion, didnt mean to seem patronising. Thanks for getting back anyway :)

  • does the bottle just have pure alcohol or did you add water to it... thanks for the video

  • @paulababe1985 It's purely alcohol.

  • To sanitize lip gloss wands you could either buy beauty so clean sanitizing wipes or alcohol wipes and wipe the wand down before putting it back in the tube,

  • @dixiemom06 even if you did that the gloss itself would already be contaminated since the person put the infected wand in the tube.

  • when you sanitize pencil liners with rubbing alcohol, does it harm your eyes when you later apply the liner to your waterline?

  • @hilarious441 No. The alcohol evaporates.

  • your camera focus is bothering me XD.

  • How would you sanitize pressed on lip gloss? (Some lip gloss are in pan form)

    Thanks

  • @xxmzjanzxx u would do that just the same as u would sanitize an eyeshadow <3<3<3<3

  • what about cream and mousse blushes?

  • too much pop. lol nice vid.

  • Thank you so much for doing this video!

  • ive always thought to scrape a really thin layer of eyeshadow off...

as for lipstick... just wipe a really thin layer of it on a tissue.

    does that work equally better?

  • @agathabrown You could do that but using the rubbing alcohol eliminates having to waste any product.

  • Great video! Was very helpful :)

  • How do you disinfect pencil liners?

  • @Kukolka42 I just dip the sharpened end into the rubbing alcohol and do it as I would a lipstick.

  • @Kukolka42 you also can just use a sharpenerit removes a thin layer and reveals clean part

  • you should do a review on your the new round-shaped brush mascara by loreal..i think loreal or revlon...i saw the commercial w/ penelope cruz... and i really want to try it!

  • I saw something on Good Morning America where you can put mascara in the freezer overnight. They said this should kill any germs that might be on there.

  • i just wanted to add to this vid, please don't think i'm trying to take away fro what u have said, but i used to work 4 mac, and 4 lippies, u want to dip the tip of the lippy into alcohol and completely wipe away with a tissue, not pat, the alcohol, eats away at the 1st few layers of the lippy, so when u wipe u wipe off the layers, and 4 powder products, all u do is take a clean tissue and just wipe the top layer off, not use alcohol, since i've worked at mac, never have used alcohol on powder

  • jazzyvirgo4067: Well, I figure whatever works for you is what's easiest. :) Thanks for the input.

  • @pinkiecharm I agree they said some eyeshadows change colors when u spray with alcohol so what I do is i swatch one color and then I spray with alcohol and let it dry if then I swatch it again if it didnt change the color I spray the whole thing with alcohol.

  • great video! i love how strong you are about the comments you get. i wish i was a strong as you.. i got 3 bad comments in a row for one video and i ended up deleting my account! i like the messy hair.. it makes you seem real. dont later jelous people tear you down. we all admire you for your strength! xx

  • Can you also use denatured alcohol?

  • can i just ask what colour that lipstick is.. it is a very pretty shade and i am trying to build upa list of mac things i like thanks

  • its called 3n(:

  • how would you disinfect eyeliners/ is it safe to disinfect eyeliners in this way??

  • KAMSizzle: You can disinfect pencil liners this way, sure.

  • Hi !

    Thanks for this video !

How often do you disinfect your products ?

  • fandapocalypse: I usually only disinfect the products I receive in swaps from Makeupalley. I also disinfect any after I've been sick.

  • Thank you for answering so fast !

I would also like to know (last questioh) : how long do you keep your lipsticks ? I'm a bit scared with everybody telling me to throw them away after 2 years... Thanks again !

  • fandapocalypse: I never throw anything away until it changes consistency, color or scent.

  • also throw it out if you used it all up. lol of course, that's obvious, though. :)

  • thank you so much for this video. this probably sounds really stupid but the spray bottle filled with alcohol, right? i also have the same spray bottle as you do, well you may have gotten a new one, but mine, if you turn it enough to almost be closed, it is like a mist. would the mist part work for disinfecting the eyeshadows? thanks, Rachel

  • 222raquel222: A mist would work better. That's the way I use my spray bottle normally but this one didn't have that option.

  • thanks for responding so quickly! also, is there a certain percent of the rubbing alcohol that i should get like 70% rubbing alcohol or like 30% rubbing alcohol, or does it not matter?

  • 222raquel222: I don't think it matters to be honest. I think mine is 70% but I just bought whatever was available.

  • i heard the higher alcohol level ,the better because it will evaporate quicker off the product...great video by the way :)

  • This is so great. Thank you!

  • Isn't using alcohol really bad for your face ?

  • VisualxGirl: Well the alcohol doesn't go directly on to your face. It is absorbed by the product.

  • but the makeup ends up on your face...

  • the alcohol completely evaporates though. :) evaporates to nill (nothing!)

  • With the gloss you showed after the lipstick...sometimes with gloss that packaged like that you can actually pop the tip off of it and clean the inside too. Just wrap a bit of kleenex around it and jam your thumbnail into the seam and pop it out. But get a man to do it if you've just had your nails done LOL.

  • Inside of the tip I mean haha.

  • Thank you SO much for this!! I am going to receive my first swap including a few mac e/s and my mom wasn't going to let me use it if I couldn't find a way to disinfect :(

    So thank you!

  • Maybe you can try disinfecting your lip glosses putting them inside a pot with boiling water for 10 minutes. It worked for me with a cover girl wetslicks lip gloss.....

  • SothisSirio: I would think the only way that would be effective is if the hot water was able to penetrate the tube enough to disinfect the gloss. The water would have to be hot enough to kill any bacteria and I would be afraid the plastic tube woudl crack at that heat.

  • thank you this helps alot!

  • what is your Makeup Alley username?

  • whats your makeupalley username?

  • what is the color of the lipstick you used as an example, it looks gorgeous

  • Will things like scented lipglosses (tube) or lip balm lose its smell a little bit and still have that little bit of alcohol scent on it, even though its dry? Or not? please let me know.

  • roc555101: The scent of the alcohol fades almost as fast as it dries. I haven't had any of my lippies dry out.

  • This was an awesome video thank you! I have just started swapping and sent 3 products today, this will be great to do when I receive mine! :)

  • omg i have the exact same spray bottle (its white too!) and i use it to apply my BE makeup wet so i was bummed when i thought it didn't work as a spray...but IT DOES u jus have to keep turning the nozzle (b/c one way is closed the other way is that blaze of water and so the spray is somewhere in the middle)!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I just recently started swapping on MUA and I knew that it was possible to disinfect some beauty products, but I had no clue of how to actually do it. So this vid helped me a lot, and you answered all the questions that I had! I'm subscribing! :)

  • can you use the eyeshadow technique on cream eye shadows, like the Revlon cream shadows?

  • Certainly.

  • hey pinkie you so hott just had to et that out of the way here my question...

are you married? lol just kidding

    question for real's

would this work on a hair brush it has thois weird white stuff it left in the bath room for month about 5 feet from toilet.I'm scare to touch it but is the only brush around wil alcohol clean it? would your technique work on a hair brush please help!

  • do you have to dilute the rubbing alchol?

  • Not at all.

  • what about eyeliner? same as lipstick?

  • Pencil eyeliners, yes.

  • Is there any way to disinfect lip gloss with a wand?

  • Sadly none that I'm aware of.

  • Oh sure, I've done it. I just didn't think to include it in my tutorial. *lol* I basically used the same method I use to disinfect pressed powders. I lightly spray some rubbing alcohol onto the surface of the product and dab away the extra with a clean tissue.

    Hope that helps! :)

  • i borrowed a brush from a freddy krueger looking bitch and i started to break out bad, and it pissed me off to think that i would have to buy new make up cuz i had infected it all with her brush. now i know i dont have to spend doe on shit. thanks!

  • is surgical spirit the same as rubbing alcohol??

    i hope so....lol

  • Yes it is, it's the UK term for it.

  • haha i love it when you said "you don't want to waste alcohol" priceless.

  • hello!

What's the percentage of the alcohol you use?

  • I believe it's 70%.

  • for the website is it only shipping in the usa ?

  • Nope theres people from all countries =)

  • Hey irene thanx 4 teh vid it really helps and bout the lipgloss you can actually sanitize the wand but still the lipgloss it self has been used by all teh times u place teh wand inside it so its pretty much sense less LOL if what i just said makes sense but thanxx luv ur vidsss

  • what do u use on ur tear duct i like ur eyemakeup

  • what about lipgloss with wands??

  • There is no way to reall disinfect used mascara unless you replace the wand, and even then you're still using mascara that's already been used.

    Does that make sense? *lol*

  • awwe thank you irene! i love your videos. your so sweet lol :)

  • I'd love to swap with you on MUA someday. Just so I can say "hey, I swapped with one of my favorite youtubers pinkiecharm" Lol :D

  • I dont know if you already told us, but whats that lipstick color you disinfected?

  • I did mention it, but it's MAC's 3N. :)

  • I guess I'd be more worried about my lips...because whatever you put on your lips is really close to getting i the interior part of your body.

  • Good point, but I worry more about my eyes for the same reason. :)

  • very true...i should've thought of that.

  • When I trade for a lipgloss I like to switch the wand out for one I already have. It only works if you have the same brand or same size. Sure there is germs inside, but I like to know it's my own wand!

  • awesome video! Thanks for putting this up.

    <3 Aly

  • Thanks! :D

  • This is such a great resource!!!! Thanks so much for doing this!

  • Thank you so much Irene.

  • what about the cap of the lip gloss? and the stick that is attached to the cap that goes into the hole on the lip of the lipgloss? shouldn't you disinfect that too?? that just popped into my head while watching this!

great videos btw. i am a religious watcher of your reviews!!!

  • Yea, you probably should, but I honestly never think about it. I haven't run into any problems with lippies. I'm usually more concerned with eye and face products.

  • thanks this video was awesome , i got some stuff in swaps as well and was wondering how to disinfect them before i use them !!

  • enkoremakeup made a series of videos covering this topic. I think it's called "Sanitary Practice and when to discard" He shows you how to clean the stuff also.

  • Did he? Cool beans. :)

  • :)

    Yrs is cool too :P

  • Could you do a video about Extra Super lash or Rimmel's Soft kohl eyeliner?

  • great vid!

  • Very informative video! Per your spray bottle issue, it looks like it has a standard nozzle. You should be able to adjust the stream of liquid dispensed by turning the nozzle. You can also close off the nozzle completely to prevent leaks when transporting liquids. Not sure this will work for your bottle, but it's worth investigation if you haven't already tried it.

  • I was thinking the same thing. Pinkie, rotate the end of the sprayer, it should turn to more of a mist than a stream. Let us know if it works!

  • Nope, that doesn't work. I tried it. It just gets more pointy. *lol*

  • (I mean the little brushes that AREN'T in the tube)

  • What about, like, the stila lip glosses? The ones with the little brushes?

Do I just dip those in RA and wipe it off?

  • Yes, that works. That's why I usually do, but I didn't think to add that since I tend to worry more about eye and face products.

  • I'm guessing you can't disinfect mascara?

The only reason I would like to know is, I

lent my friend some. I know you're not

supposed to, but I felt bad saying no...

I don't want to throw it away, it recently

became my HG and it's too expensive

for me to throw away. I just cleaned the

wand with alcohol, what should I do?

  • I don't know of any way to disinfect used mascara. That's kind of why there's that "rule" to not share it with anyone. I wish I could help! :)

  • Love your video. I had a question though. Is it okay to disinfect my own products from time-to-time? If so, how often can I do it without damaging the product?

  • Sure, I do that if I've been sick. I only disinfect about once every so many months.

  • That's nifty. :)

but what would you do for cream blushes and those textures?

    <3

  • i think a gently sprayed make-up sponge would work really well for the pressed powders.

  • That could work too, but I find sponges absorb too much alcohol.

  • wow thanks!!maybe you could show us how to disinfect brushes sometime!

  • I was wondering can you do the same with creme/gel eyeliner???

  • I honestly don't know, as I haven't tried it. I don't see why not.

  • yay thank you! i see you just posted this, is it around 1:30 am where you all are from too?

  • No, it's actually about 1030pm.

  • You always have useful info! Thanks girlie!!

  • :O you made a Tutorial! Keep up the awesome work. I dont use makeup because im afraid of it. I wouldnt know th first time about picking colors, foundations. haha

  • YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great info - thanks

  • Thank you soooo much!! Perfectly timed, as I am going to be receiving my first MUA swap sometime this week =)

  • FANFREAKINGTASTIC Irene!!!!! I have been wondering how this was done for ages now! hahahahahaha u r da' WOMAN! Thanks :)

  • very nice :) we do this at work constantly so you did awesome :)

  • Yay! :)
