I wasn't there to witness it, but from my mother's side of the story it was on a busy street with many people just standing by and watching. My mother asked why the people didn't do anything, they said that they thought that the man was her boyfriend and didn't want to get involved in their personal matters. i used to try and help kids in elementary school and in the end everyone hated me and people tried to beat me up for years after. i still get in the middle of fights, why? cause I DONT GIVE A FUCK! lol and its wrong to allow bullies to invade and abuse people.
I lived next to a major crack house in Illinois. I seen so many things go on there. I would call the cops on them repeatedly for violence on women and much nmore than that. I didn't care if they got pissed off. It was wrong. It wasn't safe for my kids. What they were doing was wrong, and hope others would do the same.
You say the guy's wife didn't even have an influence on his behavior when she tried to get him to leave the neighbor alone. Larry is guilty of assault, pure and simple. Either the witnesses were in shock to see that happening, or they are actually cowards. I see it as a "coward" factor in this situation.

I had a similar situation 2 days ago, where one neighbor started accusing myself and my husband of something (he was drunk, beligerant, and irrational) and threatened to kill my hubby. Someone I used to know helped some people who were involved in a crash, caused by a psychologically disturbed person driving, everyone came out of their houses and stores and just watched, while a 21 year old lady called for help and monitored the victims...this is in Bribane city Australia.

I have to mentally prepare myself, assess the situation quickly, think of consequences and alternatives.
It happens very fast. I wont just walk.
Of course I would call the police, but if there isnt time, I would tell some else to call while I interveine myself. If I am legally and morally correct, I will use deadly force if neccessary.

Until a few years ago I worked in 9-1-1 (when I start my vids I have stories...) and I have to say something serious here. If the story is as stated, it is unlikely this incident has ended. I REALLY suggest calling the non-emergency police number and making a phone report. I have answered too many emergency calls that started out similiar to this three days before the emergency call...don't mean to freak you out. Just real.

I said what? . . . and another guy said you leave him alone, a woman replied get away from that young man. A group gathered and told the thief off. No one cares, unless they can document it without getting involved directly. They can get it on video, and then turn it in. Oddly, doing lesser crimes than that will get you gangstalked.
I think there are two factors there. First of all people in groups feel little responsibility to get involved in things like that, that's proven in psychology, and we see it in rape cases all the time. Also, people fear legal implications; I would be hesitant to get involved because I would be afraid of getting into a fight and being arrested. I know I would have called 911 in that situation, but I'm not sure I would get involved, I'm not a fighter. I'd like to think I would, but I dono.
Actually not too long ago I was in the parking lot at the mall with my boyfriend and he was playing kind of rough with me and some guy came up to the car to make sure everything was ok and I thought that was kinda strange because I really didn't think that someone would actually come up and say anything. In domestic violence situations if someone steps in to protect a wife from an abusive husband the wife sticks up for the husband if something bad happens. I am confused as why you think CPS would have taken my child away. He was a trespasser on my property, assualting me. Not to mention this guy is 6'4" over 300lbs, with no marks, I had the marks.
CPS will not take your children away for defending yourself! Infact, the law said should he call CPS, he will have more charges as false accusations with any state or federal run dept is illegal.

Now days... that would have just made the situation worse.... the police would see a child at risk and poof... kid goes into care and the mom would spend the next 2 years fighting to prove she is a good person... while they drain her of her resources and she is forced to visit her child supervised like prisoners. People need to learn the police are no substitute for a decent human being's help.

We read so many stories of people who were just trying getting gunned down because today a life has no value. Maybe it's fear that keeps us from doing the right thing?

All I know is the a good percentage of people I know would chicken out in a situation like that. I don't want to sound sexist, but it's usually men that are non-confrontational pussies about this kinda thing. I've been told it's because once a guy steps in, the game is on completely and it's taken to another level. But usually I'm told that it's just none of their business. In that particular case, I'd bet a common reaction would be "did you see that guy?" I know even I'd hesitate.

Not if Dataintright took the picture and gave Steph permission to post it. According to copywright law, the person who owns the picture is the photographer, not the subject. And I am assuming that Steph got that photograph from Dat, who I presume, was the photographer.
Basically, she can add horns and tail to it and Larry the can't do anything. Perhaps there is some justice in this world.

I lived next to a major crack house in Illinois. I seen so many things go on there. I would call the cops on them repeatedly for violence on women and much nmore than that. I didn't care if they got pissed off. It was wrong. It wasn't safe for my kids. What they were doing was wrong, and hope others would do the same.

You say the guy's wife didn't even have an influence on his behavior when she tried to get him to leave the neighbor alone. Larry is guilty of assault, pure and simple. Either the witnesses were in shock to see that happening, or they are actually cowards. I see it as a "coward" factor in this situation.

Because they can either be hurt themselves or the situation can be turned around on them and they get blamed. In the state of tx, if a man comes at you in an aggressive manor and barges into your home, (especially w/ a child present)you have the right to defend yourself including deadly force.

That's just... wrong. Plain and simple. I had a similar situation 2 days ago, where one neighbor started accusing myself and my husband of something (he was drunk, beligerant, and irrational) and threatened to kill my hubby. It's insane to me how people will stick up for the one who's drunk and irrational at times, rather than the sober, SANE people. I'm shocked anymore at what goes on in society...it's just sad. :(

Good vid. Thanks for bringing this issue to our awareness. It is so apauling that someone wouldn't call 911 or the cops. Since I'm a woman, I wouldn't or couldn't try to break it up, but I would definatley call for help and videotape it so I could submit the tape to the cops as evidence. What was the outcome? Is he is jail now? If I was his wife, I would have called the cops and then left his ass.

Someone I used to know helped some people who were involved in a crash, caused by a psychologically disturbed person driving, everyone came out of their houses and stores and just watched, while a 21 year old lady called for help and monitored the victims...this is in Bribane city Australia.

Would I interveine? I have several times in a domestic public situation.
I have to mentally prepare myself, assess the situation quickly, think of consequences and alternatives.
It happens very fast. I wont just walk.
Of course I would call the police, but if there isnt time, I would tell some else to call while I interveine myself. If I am legally and morally correct, I will use deadly force if neccessary.

Until a few years ago I worked in 9-1-1 (when I start my vids I have stories...) and I have to say something serious here. If the story is as stated, it is unlikely this incident has ended. I REALLY suggest calling the non-emergency police number and making a phone report. I have answered too many emergency calls that started out similiar to this three days before the emergency call...don't mean to freak you out. Just real.

Years ago, I was in Greenwich Village walking down MacDougal by 8th St. A young guy says give me the chain from your neck. I said what? . . . and another guy said you leave him alone, a woman replied get away from that young man. A group gathered and told the thief off. I didn't even have a moment to say anything but, "Thank you" to my new "Stranger/Friends."
Yes Steph, there are many good people who do step out from the crowd when one is in crisis.

That's just not right! I know, for a fact, that MY husband would have been pulling Larry off her. I know this, because I've seen him react in a situation like this. It doesn't matter if you know the person. If they need help, you help! I would have been on the phone to 911. Standing around, like you're watching a reality TV show, just doesn't fly!

It's called the bystander effect and is a well documented psychological phenomenon. In one report a woman was public stabbed to death while about 30 neighbors stood around doing nothing. It is less about people 'not giving a fuck' and more about how our mind is working. Look up Bystander Effect on wikipedia.

I don't know if it's a matter of them not "giving a fuck", but surprised at the situation and not knowing what to do. They probably felt helpless as to what was going on.
Of course, if that's the sort of thing they are used to, and they knew what was going on, then yeah, they should have done something.

The Least They Could Have Done Was Call The Cops. I Sure Hope She Called Them When She Could. We Are Living In A "That's Not My Problem Society Today. It Is Very Sad. I Myself Have Gotten Involved With Lost Children On 2 Occasions. The One Little Boy Running Around With No Diaper And ASweat Shirt, The Police Came And Took Him With Them. The Family Had An "Excuse" When They Were Contacted. ;0(

No one cares, unless they can document it without getting involved directly. They can get it on video, and then turn it in. Oddly, doing lesser crimes than that will get you gangstalked.

I think there are two factors there. First of all people in groups feel little responsibility to get involved in things like that, that's proven in psychology, and we see it in rape cases all the time. Also, people fear legal implications; I would be hesitant to get involved because I would be afraid of getting into a fight and being arrested. I know I would have called 911 in that situation, but I'm not sure I would get involved, I'm not a fighter. I'd like to think I would, but I dono.

Actually not too long ago I was in the parking lot at the mall with my boyfriend and he was playing kind of rough with me and some guy came up to the car to make sure everything was ok and I thought that was kinda strange because I really didn't think that someone would actually come up and say anything. I was really embarassed though cuz I told my boyfriend to stop acting like that before somebody thought he was serious. But I was glad that there are still some concerned people out there.

Did she ever yell for help?? Because if she does not yell for help then someone can be held liable for any actions. In domestic violence situations if someone steps in to protect a wife from an abusive husband the wife sticks up for the husband if something bad happens. Now if she yells for help and many people hear it then a person is somewhat protected. I personally when hearing the yelling would of called the police and if she would have yelled help then I would step in! Thanx for the vid!!

It was fear that held the neighbors back, prevented them from intervening. At least Larry's wife was there to step between them.
I feel like something from this story is missing, though. I mean, your friend must've trusted and liked Larry to some degree, as she borrowed him that pressure washer. What made him snap?
Regardless, violence is the most primitive way one "believes" will solve a problem; it is a fear tactic.
