I remember this storm, I was about 6 yrs old @ that time and I lived in Clarence, Buffalo and we went through 2 days of it until we heard on our wireless radio that we could get out and stay with our cousins in Rochester. THANK GOODNESS 4 RADIOS! :D
Big what part of town do you live in? Or are you in a suburb? It looks like maybe Cheektowaga or maybe West Seneca. We lucked out in South Buffalo, didnt lose any power the whole time.
@197224dfb wow i live in buffalo to and the power was out for a week and school was out for two weeks oh and my grandma lives in westfalls and they didnt even get more 4 inches no fair
I remember this i live in buffalo. I woke up and there was 15ft of snow on my lawn. My dad's car was completly covered in snow it just wasnt there anyomore. the rest of the night i stayed awake watching trees fall and listening to cracking. Power was out for 1 and a half weeks but we had a generator that ran our house. NO SCHOOL FOR 1 1/2 WEEKS IT WAS AWESOME
I remember this, it feels like it wasn't that long ago. I remember when our power came back on I was sitting in the middle of the living room facing the TV. 15 minutes later my dance teacher called to tell me class was cancelled. The first night we made s'mores in the fireplace. And the last day we had no power, all the ice in the fridge melted and we had our milk in the snow.
I was living on Roncroff dr. in North Tonawanda at the time and we lost power. Had to go live at my sisters for 2 days (she was in Wheatfield), it sucked!
I was in South Buffalo and it did indeed start on Thursday October 12th as rain and after noon, it started to mix with snow and then changed to all snow. Before midnight tree limbs and power lines were already coming down. We didn't lose power until 2:00 am Friday the 13
@ariariariellee uhm no it was the 12th. I remember because both of my best friend's birthday was that day and I was stuck in Niagara falls and couldn't get back because of the snow
Man I remember this storm. I had no power/heat/showers for 8 days. I heard the storm taking out the power lines at night (saw the lines and circuits zapping purple colors and falling), and when I woke up my 2 cars were literally underneath the snow. We had people cruising down the streets with their snomobiles to get around. Took me all fucking day to dig my car out. They even called in national guard for disaster relief for this event.
I promise you I'm not lying about not having hot water lol. Me and my wife had to go to my parents house in Holland as strangely they weren't hit by a DAMN thing except maybe 2".
wasn't saying any of us is an expert. just saying that most GAS hot water tanks have a pilot light that is not electrically operated in any way. An allelectric hot water tank of course would require the electricity to be on. just sayin, not saying you're lying about anything. just a comment about GAS hot water tanks.
I only lived at that house a few months until I left. Required too much attention. I really dont remember if it was a gas or electric tank, though I'm guessing it was electric since we had no hot water
my sisters friends power was out for 2 hours. 2 fucking hours. we were out for 9 days. 2 fucking days with my family our only food was frozen milk and old frozen tuna fish.
It was sad people died in this from trees and generators inside. I was lucky nothing bad happend to my house and I dident have school for a week. Besides eating cold can foods it was good. Pretty much went to wegmans to charge my phone, then came home at night, texted and hung out with some people with beer by the fire.
yeah not all of them were from the storm itself. But I have heard a couple died from falling tree branches. And didn't someone drown in their basement?
This happened 2 DAYS before my wedding!!! I cried from Thursday night until Friday afternoon when I found out that the Holiday Inn on Grand Island finally had power! We had to change churches, but that didn't matter to me. This was crazy! My parents and I live in the same town, but they had power and we didn't. We had over 2 feet of snow and they had a dusting. This was a weird storm!
oh wasnt that storm a treat. i live in west seneca and we were out of power for a good week. froze my ass off like never before. truely one for the books.
IT ISN'T SUPPOSED TO SNOW IN OCTOBER!!!! Well, I suppose it depends on where you are. I'm from Kansas. It has never snowed in October where I am. However it has got very chilly before. Late October of 2002,when I was 10, we had a cold day in the 30's. lol
I remember this OmG that was a crazy few weeks..I had no power for almost 2 weeks but we had a genarator but we only used it for the pellit stove so we didnt wast gas..the lines at ALL the gas stations (that were even open) were half way down the street, me and my boyfriend at the time had a bon fire party, got drunk, and had a snowball fight with a bunch of people.
i remember looking out of the window at school and seeing it bright and sunny in math class, then in english it was raining and by the time chemistry came around it was a white out. i thought the friggin world was ending. it was crazy. then we had no power for like 3 weeks
omg i remeber this!!!i remeber wen they had th warnings on th news soo i put like 3 ice cubes outside on my doorstep and my aunt jumped on my bed and was like SNOW STORM!!!!!!!!!1NO SCHOOL!!(this i s wen she was in high school)so i ran downstairs looked out my window and there was like a buttload of snow.so me and my aunt and g-ma went for a walk and there was like fifty powerlines down and everything.
i remember standing outside as it came down and seeing blue flashes every couple minutes as all the transformers blew up. i remember the trees sagging down onto my apartment wondering if they would crash down into my room
i had a football game the day the storm hit we wouldve played it but there was lighning so they cancelled it. then we missed school for a week without power then they made us go to school the week we were supposed to hav off in feburary
i found out i was pregnant just hours before the storm hit, i couldn't get to a doctor, i couldn't even get to the store. my grandfather and i huddled in his house for days waiting for the power to come back on. it took them 4 days to get down the street and remove the downed power lines off of my car. i'll never forget that storm, and i'll most certainly have a good story to tell my kid! just like my parents told me about the blizzard of "77".
The storm sucked, i bought a generator about 6 days into the storm and as soon as i wired it up, a hour later i had power back. what a good storm though.
I played in a soccer game on the 12th. yes. soccer. in the cold, snow, ice, thundersnow, etc....oooo it was cold. and we didnt have school for a week. that was the glorious part of it! Poor trees though, i miss them a lot!!!!
I live in Lake View and we only lost power for 12 hours. My Grandma had to stay with us though because she was without power longer. And I had to babysit birds. Didn't have school for a week.
My family of 3 had to go live with my sisters family of 4 for two days..it was not fun! We live in North Tonawanda and had no power for 2 days. This is a great video, shows exactly how much snow we did get!
My Grandparents live up in West Seneca, our whole family begged them to move somewhere south, but dammit they were not budging, and not even this storm could have changed thier minds. Grandpa SHOVELED his way out, and he's 76 at the time.
yeah i live in buffalo to first i was in levents talior shop and it was snowing in october so i was going home there was a huge traffic because the traffic lights went off so it was 1 hour till i made it amd i tryed turinig on the tv it would work back on sunday i got power i iive in East Amherst 14051.

haha i was driving to school on millersport at like 11 am and it started snowing lightly and i was like wow that's odd, and by the time the day ended my stupid ass instructor wanted to hold class after a test and it was getting really bad and we were like see you later dickhead, teach to whoever is left after the break.
I remember this. I had no school for a week. Too bad no power for a week either :(
