the dukes gearing is completely different to the jap bikes, i think they said they were doin a 2nd gear roll on, depending on the revs when they took off would have made a big difference, i went from a zx10r to an 1198 just recently, i could sit in 6th at 100kph with the zx10 comfy, but the 1198 i have to sit in 4th, if i go higher, it doesnt like it at all

It has nothing to do with the Bikes and how much they cost, its all about the rider at the end of the day there all fast. I had a worked 08 600rr and i beat many 1000 including s1000RR's and 1198 and befor someone opens there mouth with a stupid comment that they were bad riders they were not, they all had many years of riding experience. I just picked up a new Red 2012 CBR 1000RR with the C-Abs and i love it. it's a great bike for anyone looking to pick up an new 1000.

Just so everyone knows from a person who races and owns a v twin AND an inline four, the v twin has lots of torque, low revving, good motor, inline four, high revs, lots of power, good motor, a 600 v twin and a 600 inline four are NOT matched, that is the reason that v twins have a 250cc displacement break in world superbike so yes, a cbr 1000 will beat a ducati 1098, but thats not a fair race

@gsxr600trackday guy is right 1098 was designed with a Vt win to be smoother through corners, inline 4's are a lot harder to control and get those same results. Inline 4 will always blow a vtwin out of the water though in the straight. so inline 4 will always win this kinda race. Now is Ducati worth the extra 10g is the question?

@FatRedneckTerrorist I got 2 chevy's, cavalier and Z71 pick up both have over 300,000 miles and they are hard miles up here in Upstate, NY. If you take care of a car it will last no matter what kind. My cavalier was built in 94 and gets over 28 MPG still and that was before it was cool . My Z71 still gets 25 MPG highway and that's a 350. Both of my Old vehicles get better gas milage than your Integra did when it was Bran New..LMFAO

@idpFATTYs The Duc isn't a 3 cylinder, it is a twin. Twin means 2. And yes, there is, I have seen plenty of inline 4 riders destroyed by 1098s. They, along with most other Ducs, have massive torque. At this point it really comes down to the rider. I have beaten and been beat by 1098s on my 1000rr - both on the track and in a straight line. Learn your motorcycles before making stupid comments.

they're not really comparing which bike is better, just which one is faster in a straight line. ducati shits on the cbr when it comes to braking and suspension, but at the same time, all of those components can be upgraded on the honda as well. the bikes they use in motogp are completely different than street bikes, so there's no point of even comparing those. i own an s2000 and civic, as well as zx10r and zx6r. in the end, it's all about what makes you happy or what works for you.

@socal1000 I've had my 2007 Ducati 1098 since May of 2007 and have probably paid about as much as getting my Triumph Speed Triple's valves checked (~$300), every 8k or so. The rest of the work I've been able to do myself pretty easily. Now if you drop it and break stuff, yeah the parts won't be cheap, but that's what insurance is for. My 1098 has been very reliable, overall. I had a bad battery at one point, but that was due to the bike sitting for a few months with no battery tender.
