Fact is, half of Americans don't pay any tax, and still receive a credit each year in excess of the amounts paid in FICA (SS and Income taxes). The 15% rate you refer is called a capital gains rate, and if you anything about investing or economics, you would understand why it is lower than other rates. Irregardless, 15% of than man's salary paid for all the of the public goods millions of Americans use daily.

@DillonDee1 Actually, most Republicans are all for closing loopholes. You know when they talk about simplifying the tax code? What the heck do you think that means?
By the way, where does the middle class pay 30%+? Maybe in some places if you add state, federal, and payroll taxes you can get to 30%, but I'm pretty sure, despite your flagellation about loopholes, most people who make over 250k are arguably not middle class, per se, and do in fact pay 35-50% of their income in taxes.

@DillonDee1 I'm a CPA, and you clearly don't understand the tax code. Fact is, half of Americans don't pay any tax, and still receive a credit each year in excess of the amounts paid in FICA (SS and Income taxes). The 15% rate you refer is called a capital gains rate, and if you anything about investing or economics, you would understand why it is lower than other rates. Irregardless, 15% of than man's salary paid for all the of the public goods millions of Americans use daily.

Studies here in Houston indicate even illegals pay between 17-20% of inc in tax w/ ITINs or bogus SSNs, federal gasoline tax, state gasoline tax, fed tire tax, state & city sales tax, fed beer & wine tax, federal & state telephone tax +
I could go on & on - the pt being some pay a higher % in tax than billionaires!

The woman was rude. He was trying to answer the question AND he was right -- you don't spend more than you take in !!! I'm sick of the liberal spending. I needs to stop, and Romney's answer was spot on.

He made the same joke on Don Imus' 2006 St. Patrick's Day show. Romney's family tree has lots of polygamy. and his father was born in Mexico.
