This video proposes a false statement the ps3 phat wast up to date with the latest firmware. How do i know? PS3 slim came with and update pre installed and the update for the ps3 phat came out the same day. this update may have fixed performance issues so it is wrong to say the slim loads games faster than the phat if all the parameters aren't exactly on the same.

@garavrocks1234 Yes but the new fat PS3's can't ether. So only way to get a PS3 to play PS2 games would be to go back in time and buy a 60GB PS3 for 600 dollars or find one used online.... But I have a PS2 slim anyways so I don't need/care too much about backwards compatibility, I don't even play PS2 games that much.

@garavrocks1234 Well there's only three fat ps3 versions that can play ps2 games. That's the 20gb, 60gb and the first 80gbs.

the newer 80gb can't. neither the 40gb, 120gb, 160gb, 250gb and 320gb. So that's only 3 out of 9 (fat)

and its really hard to get them now, or you can get them in ebay nut they are expensive and who know how long will they work. I got the ylod in 2 and a half years

I've got a fat one, it seems to run the same as the slim if not a tiny bit slower, but to be honest, does it matter if it's a fraction slower? and the noise thing, the ps3 slim seems the same volume as the fat which already was VERY quiet compared to the 360. And in my opinion the Fat piano black finish seemed more attractive, the new matt finish looks like a ps2 which lets face it wouldn't win awards on it's looks. I've got space for my fat ps3, so I'm perfectly happy with it :)

I got a slim after my fat got the ylod and ive noticed some pop ou on the slim, it happens a lot in AC2, trees will just appear a few metres infront of u, and shadows also seem to take longer to load in. im not sure if this was happening on my fat, i might have just not noticed it, but if u have the same problem plz mail me

i think theyre the same because the 80gb isnt taking longer because the slim is faster, its because of the animation of playstation 3 that only shows on the 80gb model, the blueray comparison has no animation on the slim version and its still slower, anyways i would go for the fat because apparently theres no linux support on slim

The difference is he hasn't updated the 80gb PS3 because if he did the PlayStation logo when starting up a ps3 game won't show up anymore in the firmware 3.00, and it will load faster than previous firmwares. That's what I think why the PS3 Slim is a little bit faster.

Even if he would, it's the same console and the upcoming firmware update will most likely put the game launches at the same speed and even if it didn't, a few seconds more on the other doesn't really matter.

HDD? 120GB in Slim, heard a 250GB PS3 Slim is coming. -> HDD is also upgradable from the capacity & rpm.

RAM ? -> 256MB of XDR 3.2GHz RAM & 256 MB of GDDR3 700MHz VRAM.

I personally don't want the PlayStation 3 -logo from the game startup to leave, but.. that's an opinion of MINE. It would make the game launch faster however, but I love the logo and the sound it makes. But as I said; I wouldn't have anything against it if they did remove it in the upcoming firmware updates.

Honestly? Firmware 3.0 could easily change and make everything involving the Slim to be faster in ALL ways other than merely loading the game, since I've seen and KNOW it starts up slower (Own a Slim, have since Aug 25th).

one of 3.0's features is a faster startup, so, let's see if Slim, which was MEANT to be bought WITH 3.0, not to be used with past-firmware, whether or not 3.0 makes it AWESOMER then how it is now.

I sold my launch 60gb ps3 and bought slim for its power consumption and its ability to run at lower heat. My phat ps3 used to make my room so hot I didn't have to turn the heat on in winter but it was unbearable in summer. I just have to pay a little more for heating in winter :D
