hei man @bolducati before you make the map and all those things you can add a caracter from this program created by you? even if it isnt from the game?
Absolutely! Everything is there in the XSI 6 Mod Tool. The COLLADA support, polygon reduction, the Rendermap, you can also model, perform the skinning and weighting of your charater and you can animated it as well. The HL2 plugin is also part of the Mod Tool.
so i rig my human ragdol export it ok... compile it and then it comes out like a statue... with the collision/physics thing under it... =( aso bullets go thru it and then its even all static :( the bones extend way under the feet and why? it looked fine in xsi =((
Also, didn't know where to install it. Tried these file paths:
valve/steam/steamaps/sourcesdk/bin, and
steam/steamaps/sourcesdk/bin
my valve folder seems pretty barren, i just see folder names, no files, is it suppose to be that way? and are there suppose to be a valve and a steam folder separate?
I'm having trouble getting studiocompiler to run. Says it's missing a vstdlib.Dll file. So I copied that from another folder. Then it said the procedure entry point Q_StrRight couldn't be located in vstdlib.dll.
Totally. You can definitely create, model, texture, weight and rig you own character with the XSI Mod Tool. You have everything you need to do so with it.
Hi! Great tutorial! I have a question though.. when I merge my character together and I move the entire mesh, it duplicates itself, is that supposed to happen? PLEASE HELP!
yep, the result of the merge is a new mesh. Once merged you can keep the relation with the source mesh or freeze the result mesh and delete the source.
Please give me more details on what you're stuck with and I'll give you a hand. Also, have a look at the new Softimage XSI 6 Mod Tool. It's well documented.
I'm sure you're right. For the sake of this demo and for simplicity I went with the one material / one texture approach, I should have been more clear about this. Sorry.
this seems difficult,I don't know I'm not very good at this stuff:P. But can't you create a whole Caracter/model and then export it into XSI and then use it in HL2 instead of creating all the components in diffferent programs and then put them together?
Absolutely you can! The intention here was to demonstrate how XSI can play a key role in mixed tool pipeline, using the Collada file format support. It shows the asset aggregation capability of Softimage|XSI but, you could very well model, texture and animate the whole character including the props, starting from scratch, within XSI. Actually, XSI as very advance and complete feature set that allows you to do so.
I assume that you are talking about the "Model" under which you need to parent the mesh in order to export the .SMD file. You'll find this under Edit > Model > New. If you do this with the mesh selected it will automatically parent it properly.
I don't! :) It's from Daz studio to Softimage|XSI. I used the Daz Studio Collada plugin for that. It should be available on their web site soon. You can contact them directly also.
Hi! Nice vid! I have another alignment question: Both XSI, Maya and DAZ seems to have Y-up, but Max has Z-up. Does the XSI COLLADA importer ignore that attribute? The hat seems to have the correct up-axis when imported. How come?
The up axis is specified in the COLLADA file witten by 3dsMax. At import time, XSI detects this and converts the content from Z-up to Y-up automatically.
i got rigging working but the materials and textures still tryin to figure out
