I remember singing this in 6th grade. It's been a long time, but the lyrics recently popped into my head, and I cannot stop singing it. SOMEONE SHOULD SING THIS FOR THE HOLLYWOOD ROUND IN AMERICAN IDOL. TEARS WOULD SHED AND JAWS WOULD DROP.
I'm doing this song at Mont Bethel Elementary for our chorus performance!!!!!! This is my favorite chorus song. Even thought this song is really sad it still sounds really pretty when my chorus sing's it
;-; Us 6th, 7th, and 8th graders sang this tonight at a concert and dedicated it to an 8th grader who passed away because of leukimea. I didn't even know her and yet I was the only one who cried. <:'D
i sang this last year in 6th grade for large group comp. in choir and we ended up winnin the gold plaque(sp?) lol and we were the first 6th grade group in our state to go to large group and win the gold
Love it. I sang this a long time ago with my show choir. It was funny, the first time we sang it, the song ended and nobody spoke for about 3 minutes. We were all so taken aback by how beautiful and sad it was. There were about 30 of us just standing there on the verge of tears.
Our choir is singing this for our fall concert, and i've got to say that i LOVE this choir. Not only because i love NJ, but because its such a wonderful song, hopeful and faithful. I love this choir x3 Better than us high school peeps xD
my show choir in middle school 8th grade 2008 sang this...ohmygod my obsession with the psycology of the holocaust made me bawl everytime I sang it.... its so nice to find the past again
i wish my eighth grade quior sang this well; when it came to the spring concert. The concert was bad to begin with because of audio problems and when it came to sing this song, it just sucked because the altos were too soft and everyone kept using the "h" sound too much. To top it off, my chorus teacher was stupid to try the last finale that none of us were even close to be ready for.
My cousin's high school choir just sang this song a couple of nights ago and it was so compelling that I cried and needed to hear it again. They also had a student read the same paragraph before they sang the song and it was incredibly touching.
Love this song :) i sang it during a music festival that seventh and eighth graders in the texas state conferance for seventh day adventist schools go to and after the concert i got a call from my mom just to tell me that my dad had been in a bad diesil truck accident he was in icu for 5 weeks in therapy for 2 weeks and has been home for 2 weeks as well this song gave me hope through this time and has helped me so much i thank you for posting this video
We've got a tiny school, so our choir has 5 people, including myself. We would sing this for our contest coming up next Friday, but the judges are less harsh on foreign songs. we will instead sing this for our Spring Concert. We are singing Sing Jubilate Deo for our contest. One other and myself are the base, but her voice is too quiet, so I have to make mine carry. jut a little insight, lol. A great job, kids!
@xxRookiexKookiexx I think it doesn't have to necessarily be sad. I think it is a song about finding hope in the hardest of times, and still believing that there is goodness in the world. Managing to smile through the tears and pain. :)
This is a lovely version of a beautiful piece of music! The voices are so pure and so perfectly blended. I had my high school students sing this when it first came out, but I think it is absolutely beautiful when sung by such young voices. Well done!!!
Even if it's not SATB, you've got wonderful intonation, and great blend. How old are these singers? Tell them to all stay with it, they have the natural knack! Very nice sound!
I'm singing this with my friends for a music festival! My music teacher was telling me how the words of this song were found in a cellar after the World War 2. A Jew carved this alone in the dark, and who knows what happened to this person? Thank you for the amazing video! Almost brings tears to my eyes.
it sounds like its very good to you but if you really thing about it they dont have any other tone. the basses surpranoes altos and tenors all are at the same pitch and tone. but i will say it is very well construvtive for kids with out changed voices.
@adriantorres1231 This being an elementary chorus, it is only treble 1 and treble 2 for boys and girls. There are no real "voice parts" in any of the songs because as you said, none of the kids voices have changed. Therefore there can only be two part harmony.
I agree with the many other comments that this is definitely the best version of the song on youtube. If you guys are in elementary school now, your voices will SO good when you're in highschool. Great job!!!! It gave me goosebumps, not gonna lie. : ] XD <3
I am going to sing this for one of my concerts. I just love this song it is SO good, and GREAT job by the way. I can tell you really tried and you got it =)

@sugarland104, actually it was written on the wall of a cellar in Germany by Jews hiding from nazis. I put the story in the description. But yes, it is very sad.
@Aubsthegr8Sings Yeah, that's what I mean't. I knew it was written from that time period and someone was hidin from Hitler.. i know REALLY REALLY sad :(
