Loud is ALL four. I never hit the flight line without ear protection. If you should be able to make Thunder Over Michigan this year there should be 10 B17s!!!
I stayed there until she flew away. My favorite ww2 plane. I hope she gets up where she belongs once again. and to those who make it happen,.. God Bless you all.
Thanks, I hear a number of stories back from the good old days. TR has quite a history of her own, apart from the Combat veterans she is meant to honor. Hope to see her fly at 2009 Wings Over Houston.
back in 1990 while at 91-B school in Ft. Sam, San Antonio, I went to an air show, i think it was Kelly Air base, since I got there early and being military I was aloud to walk the flight line early that morning. My favorite photo is of myself standing under the plane. that was a great day .
I'm from Texas so this has even more meaning than what you usually get out of something like this. Any word of locations she would fly to yet? If you know any, please tell!
SPIRIT OF WACO. NO THIS ONE WAS CALLED THE LOVE MACHINE. HAD A SIDE SHOT OF A NAKEED LADY, IT was in galveston with tx raider at shulves field i believe. it had tail cancer and the col. that owned it had follen out with the wing and refused to do anything with it. i was just wandering whatever happened to her.
i understand tx raider is at ellington now. ill have to try to make it up for her firt flight. Will
i grew up from the age of 6 to 17 yrs. working and playing around texas raider. lost of found memories of her and of col. sadly all of the cols. i new 30 years ago as a boy have past on. i would love to know when she is set for her first flight, i would love to fly into see that. also would like to help out with fund raising for her. does anyone remeber the " love machine" that had tail cancer? would love to know what became of that a-26. Will
If the A-26 is SPIRIT OF WACO it should be flying again soon. We hope to have TEXAS RAIDER's first flight in late July or early August. As always that is IF there are no more "gotchas!" Stay in touch.
Ky Putnam and Team have turned the engines over with an external oil pump and Marvel Mystery Oil down the jugs as they hand turned the engines. We used an external oil cooler system to keep any metal out of the on-board systems and so far...NO METAL in the screens. A test club was used to keep time off the Hamilton Standards and they make less thrust and the club has cuffs that generate more cooling effect.

WOW! 7 YEARS!?! Amazing!
My son has not even seen her fly, and so many great Gulf Coast Wing vets have gone south in that time.
I bet the first flight will be very emotional for a lot of the members!
Thanks for posting!

Wow 7 years! Any rust? Where the heck did you find a test club for that engine?
Did you get the oil analyzed?
