i have a idea for u and it would be cool look on youtube for a gasifier you can run a car on it and u probly can run that jet on it it would be a sweet vid
hydrostatic bearings, like in most normal turbos. If I toast them, it could hurt yes, but that is why I make sure that the oil system is ok before running. During running I monitor the oil pressure and temperature
I'm gunna make one of these. Can I use a truck engine? Those things are big right massive so it would be cooler, but would LPG be good enough. Were do I get instructions berndsen1984?
You need a turbocharger, not a truck engine. The turbocharger can be used from a truck engine, but it won't be cooler, because relatively it needs the same amount of energy to make some usable power. LPG would be a good place to start. Instructions?, sorry there are no instructions. You can watch my other videos and you can start googling like I did to build mine.
The engine runs on LPG (Liquified Petroluem Gas) and it is under pressure, so the only thing needed is a line to the combustion chamber. No fuel pump needed.
Dude, I checked yours out, but I was a little scared to watch it. You make things way too hot for that poor turbo. Things should not glow white hot. It shouldn't even glow red hot. All the luck with your turbine project, but be carefull, because these turbines can hurt you if it explodes.
How are you not smoking the turbo? You have an oil pump hooked up to it? Also, how are you combusting this? Are you piping the gas into the intak of the turbo, or into the boost part of the turbo? Also, how are you preventing an overspeed of the turbo? Using a wastegate?
Yes an electric oil pump is used. The combustion takes place in a home build combustion chamber, which is placed between compressor and turbine of the turbo. (cannot be seen on this video) Overspeed is prevented by regulating the amount of fuel injected in the combustion chamber, just like a regular gasturbine.
Sorry, for the turbine seen in this vid, I have no diagram, this was pure trail and error. I have diagrams / plans for a different turbine, but only on paper.
its people in their garage tinkerin around wit this shit like this guy, thats gonna like save humanity, and crisises and shit. Im not kiddin. People like this hold our future development.
Jessjess96, this is no generator at all (except for the fact that it generates a lot of hot gasses). This is a converted turbocharger from a car, now it is a small jet engine. The bearings used in a turbocharger like this are of the hydrostatic type. At the time this video was taken, it produced no thrust at all, but in later videos it produced about 5-6 pounds of thrust.
so like, you said single stage, how would you make a multi stage one? i've only ever seen this style, and i wanted to design one more in the style of an actual turbine engine :-)
That's a very good question and one really hard to answer, because I've been thinking about that a lot. My conclusion is that it cannot be done with turbochargers. I thought about connecting 2 turbochargers to eachother, but in a real turbine, the turbine inlet temp is about 1400-1900C. This is way to high for a turbocharger. It can be done with multiple turbochargers if you know a way to cool the turbineblades. (normally done by a small airfilm over the blades)
You take an old turbocharger from any car, remove the internal combustion engine and replace it with your own build combustion chamber. Add a lubricating system, a spark and some LPG.
This engine has no compression chamber (like in an internal combustion engine), instead it has a combustion chamber. Because a gasturbine is a continous process(unlike a car engine), you can't really build much pressure with a single stage turbine. The maximum pressure is about 1.3 bar with this turbocharger. The combustion chamber is behind the turbocharger, so it can't be seen on this video, but when you take look at my other videos, you can see the combustion chamber.
I suppose it could be used as fuel to drive a gasturbine. It is being tested in cars as well. But it is not easy to get hydrogen and it has to be stored under a very high pressure. Using hydrogen as fuel for my home build turbine can get very dangerous, if something goes wrong (and that happened in the beginning on a regular basis). I can imagine that using hydrogen as fuel can give a lot more problems to be solved. (flame temperature, hydrogen injection system)
Yeah, that's pretty cool. I made mine out of a watermelon, paper shredder, a corkscrew, some duct tape, a 1976 half-broken pepsi bottle and used puppy blood for fuel.
Sorry, didn't see the program. I just had a spare turbocharger left and searched google what I could do with it. Now I'm totally addicted and started building my second one.
Some people are shitting on your vid but hey that is really cool you put this together. I think people want to know more about how it works and stuff....
Its cool to see the results though. mount that puppy on something and ride it!!!
Imagine what else you could do..... generate electricity, heat your house, etc.
This was just a experimental project, to see if a could build a small jet engine, but I started a new project with a way bigger turbocharger and that puppy is going to drive my bicycle. I hope to post a vid of that soon.
Finally I posted two new videos of my new jet engine. In these videos my jet engine is still in testing phase, so I don't run the bike yet. I'm still experiencing some problems I need to solve before I can take it to the open road.
No it doesn't, because it was my first ever attempt to run with the turbine. You can search google if you wan't to know how to build it and if you'd like I can send you an email with pictures and explanation during the building process. You can also look at my other videos to get a better understanding.

how are you running this on gas? is the fule just being sucked in to the combustion chamber from the gas tank or do you have some sort of fule pump?
