  • I stayed at a Beach-house in Oregon, North East, some years ago, sorounded by trees. While I was on the balcony something I thought was a Wasp flashed by me and scared me, thinking I would get stung. But a friend laughed and said it was a Humming bird. I laughed with excitement bc I Love Nature.

  • Nature

  • @RollersPostulate People who don't have the attention span of a goldfish and are somewhat fascinated with hummingbirds. Don't like it? Don't watch it. Don't hate it.

  • Absolutely astonishing! These are amazing creatures, occupying a very special niche in the grand web of Nature's designs; not much meat on them, though.

  • THUMBS UP if YOU HATE MOSQUITOS! ;D

  • Phenomenal video work! Thank you!

  • Love these little birds, they are so fun to watch. When I stand next to my feeder, they come right down next to my head, close enough that I can feel their wings vibrate.

  • hi;

That's a great video and hard work ...thanks for sharing it ..... you have given a great thinking & resolvability of wildlife photography it is very motivating for me... surly would like to do something in that aspect. Keep it up Great Job for nature. Thanx again.

  • Great Video & Reminder to Set Out HummingBird Feeders.

    Thanks Neighbor!!!!

    Psalm 38:21-22

21 LORD, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God.

22 Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.

  • Thats great, I enjoy seeing the making of documentaries as much as the original picture itself

  • I will never shoot these beautiful birds with my air rifles anymore. Now I know the beauty of these amazing animals and the role of mother nature. Sorry Earth! Great video PBS, keep up the good work!

  • coming from england the only way i could watch this documentary was to order the dvd from america which was a bit of a bummer.glad i ordered it the documentary is amazing.

  • 6:49 Oh snap, it's Captain Hook.

  • Well done

  • the hummingbird is one of God's most beautiful works.

  • gotta love technology

  • Great vid. about a tiny bird who turns out to be a giant, only we were not able to see everything it had to offer. I've see one once. Actually someone els saw it, and it was in Peru. Beautiful images and story. Sad the entire film can not be viewed in the Netherlands

  • Fantastic, absolutely fantastic!

When one of these critters I was photographing actually came inside our house to check out my parrot, this made me wonder if it was out of curiosity? Was it a act of aggression? Never know?

  • their eyes look so weird, like manga cartoon ones, check out 3:34 and 6:37

  • Fantastic! Now go color correct your green screen segments! lol

  • It's not available in Britain either. It's maddening to have one's interest roused in this way and then to find you can't watch the film. This is obviously a very special work of art/science and should be available to everyone. I suppose this situation prevails because of the 'market economy'. Is PBS holiding it back in order to sell it to foreign networks and to make a killing? I would happily pay for the privilege of watching the full film.

  • @orglancs It's not avaiable for viewing outside the United States because PBS doesn't have the rights to show it anywhere but inside the U.S. We're sorry we can't make it available world-wide, but that's not possible, given the rights situation with this film.

  • @PBS Well who does have the rights then? Someone must 'own' them and it must be possible to arrange for a showing in other countries somehow or other, surely?

  • @PBS "When friend's ask me who funded your film I tell them you did. Because it's people funding public television that make these kinds of shows possible." Ann Johnson Prum - producer of PBS "Hummingbirds: Magic in the Air"

I find it interesting that even though the film was made possible through public funding "The Public" doesn't have the rights to watch it. Leave it up to corporate greed to try to monetize every aspect of our lives.

  • @orglancs just torrent it

  • @orglancs Ugh that sucks. Maybe you can use a proxy server?

  • @orglancs Use a Proxy and you can watch it.

  • @orglancs in the end its gonna be the way it should be, man vs nature. wether you like it or not society is pure b.s, politics, money, college.

  • @orglancs Good thing we have piratebay!

  • @orglancs So it's not available to you for exactly the opposite reason you expected. Who would have thought. Please don't blame the free market when you have no idea. However, I would agree with you that programs such as these have obvious extra societal benefits and therefore should be subsidized.

  • I enjoyed the 9:29 minute video, thanks, BUT ... I am sooo disappointed about the two suggested links to PBS.ORG because it said: "We're sorry, but this video is not available in your region due to rights restrictions." I live in Canada and it appears I am totally shut out from viewing the hour-long program. I'd like to be a contributor to PSB but if people outside USA are shut out it's simply too discouraging. Ok, I've had my say. I thought the World Wide Web was an international linkup. Is it?

  • A M A Z I N G! GREAT JOB!

  • these are beautiful creatures!

  • Hummingbirds are like tiny lightweight air-sharks.

  • I just loved this documentary, you guys did a really good job, it is AMAZING, thank you

  • I wish I had the reaction capacity of a hummingbird. That would make a ninja look like a snail.

  • WOW! This is Amazing!

Great Camera, Great staff, Great Bird!

  • Nature is the most compelling show on television, I am proud to say I have been watching since the beginning. Where can I buy the old George Page episodes? They are American Treasures.

  • @Wak017 Did you watch the whole video? Look at 4:15. You clearly can see white feathers behind the eye which gives it the human eye effect at 3:34.

  • @Wak017 Did you watch the whole video? Look at 4:15 and 7:55 and a few other close ups in the last portion of this video. You clearly can see white feathers behind the eye which gives it the human eye effect at 3:34.

  • Great video!

  • Wonderful! Absolutely WONDERFUL! Thank you. MORE!!!

  • Don't fly away.

  • This is a great contribution to the human spirit. Thank you!

  • God is beautiful...just beautiful and an art and mechanical genius. That is just one beautiful side of God...not to mention His amazing love and care. Thank You God for all this beauty you surrounded us with.

  • this is crazy, that's the mom of one of my best friends when i was growing up!

  • STUMBLEUPON, I DON'T CARE ABOUT HUMMINGBIRDS.

  • This is an awesome video, what beautiful little birds, thanks for sharing.

  • I have had feeders for about 5 years now But last year there were more hummingbirds here than I could count and I have 10 feeders and was refilling them twice a day as a rule I usually only have 8 to 10 hummingbirds This year I learned something I didnt know while watching one that was very close to me with a pair of binouculars he kept putting his tongue out and I was amazed to see it was 2 times the length of his beak

  • No such thing as 'Intelligent Design'? Really? Excellent film. shows this little Miracle in super refined detail. I am truly blessed by having 'vision' to see such wonders in their precise wavelength. Our eyes are actually 'wavelength receivers'. What another miracle we have visual sensory skills. Life is Great. What a beautiful world. What a blessing to be emersed in it with filmakers and our freedom of technology like this.

  • @Blogengezer I agree! The original blueprints for these incredible creatures were designed by the author of life. Nothing is random...everything follows the laws that they were designed to follow. Jesus is the light of the world (Jn 14:6). God knows how many hairs we each have on our heads, and knows when each bird dies (Matthew 10:29-30)

  • @Blogengezer "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." (Hebrews 13:8). "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." (Deuteronomy 32:4). "Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil" (Hebrews 6:13-20) Praise God!

  • Wow! Nature is so spectacular. Thank you for capturing this and sharing with the world.

  • Fantastic....Wonderful to see them slow down and understand them more...beautiful job...:)) there are two at my window right now:):)

  • What is the link for the entire video?

  • @PetiteLicorne It is in the beginning of the description of the video.

  • @PBS I can't access it. In your region the video is unavailable due to copyright infringement, etc!!!

  • @PBS It's great how PBS puts their shows on their website for on demand streaming. I just wish they were in HD.

The resolution is gawd awful...It's almost painful to watch. Pretty disappointing after you have been spoiled by their HD tv channels and by Youtube . :(

  • @PBS Completely useless because you don't let Canada see this film.

    Retarded.

  • @PetiteLicorne Nature Hummingbirds Magic in the air

  • Outstanding Video!

  • wow this is absolutely amazing!!! do you have any more films?

  • I struggle to get shots of these little guys each summer, so this video is a truly amazing look into their lives! Thank you!

  • after watching hummingbirds and their activities in the wild and only capturing them in stills, I now see a bit more than I did before.

I wish you could have shown an Anna's chasing off a crow as I have seen that many times and can only laugh at the David and Goliath vision.

Thanks for the fabulous video work.
