  • when your program gets switched to saturday evenings, you know the end is near!!

  • @6470mark: Bewitched was scheduled to be renewed for a 9th season,ABC had already greenlighted it. Elizabeth Montgomery decided she had done enough and it was she who pulled the plug.

  • Actually she was 39 in 1972. But still gorgeous and ten times prettier than anyone on TV now. They all look like science projects now. Fake boobs, noses, frozen eyes from botox and freakish. Liz was even stunning right before she died at 62. This promo was a bit campy even Liz had to laugh doing it.

  • She was 40 at 8th season, no plastic surgery or deforming botox, beautiful

  • She was a beauty.

  • @Aeolis7 .... and not a vacuous beauty either.. she had real spark and vibe... seems she was kind of underused after this though she did some interesting television movies. Only recently have I started enjoying the work of her dad Robert Montgomery who bears a strong resemblance and had real presence as well.

  • Scheduling "Bewitched" in the same timeslot of "All in the Family" for 1971-1972 was deliberately the nail in the coffin for the series.

  • @6470mark it sure was

  • @6470mark yeah, tv was changing 180 degrees by this time. I mean how many times are we going to keep watching Endora put a spell on Darrin or watch Esmerelda bring back to life some historic figure from the 16th century? The show had definitely run its course, and ALL In The Family and Maude definitely dealt with real issues people of that time wanted to hear about(race, sexism, abortion, war) I guess you could say shows like All In The Family and Maude were the first ''reality'' tv shows.lol

  • @msmithstud All in the Family and Maude were truly groundbreaking.. but looking back there's something very "eat your veggies" about them though they were quite adult. Some of the sillier 60s shows like Bewitched, Jeannie, Get Smart, or Green Acres seem a bit subversive in some sense. The character of Larry White on Bewitched seems more relevant than ever...

  • 4give me for noticing,B4 I say this I need to add I am female so I guarantee its not a perve,, BUT is she bra less??

  • @Beenygirl1969 Yes, she went braless for all of season 8 and occasionally on season 7 during some scenes.

  • Either no one's noticed or I'm getting way too old - but Ms. Montgomery is wearing the "Ecology" flag that was created around the very first Earth Day in 1970 (April 22) which was also the birthday of actor and environmentalist Eddie Albert - but that's a story for another day.

  • Two points to make.....Elizabeth Montgomery was an absolute goddess, and is it me or did she seem to act almost embarrassed to have to read that promo?

  • @saljustfarted I think she lacked passion to do the series by this time so to me, she seems like she doesn't care.

  • @saljustfarted AMEN... and wow could she put a spin on any line. What a character she was!

  • Bewitched had started the season opposite Carol Burnett (CBS) and Adam-12 (NBC). It's time had come, but then to put it up against All In The Family? Ouch! Still, interesting to hear the little musical opening ("the New ABC") before the promo.

  • Damn, she was sexy, beautiful!!!!!

  • i miss Elizabeth!! she went 2 soon!!

  • Do you suppose that Elizabeth Montgomery was smiling because she knew she'd soon have alot of time off? In the early '70s, Saturday nights at 8PM eastern was the "Death Slot" for any show not on CBS, where Archie Bunker ruled. The only show that managed to buck the trend, was Emergency on NBC. It was a brilliant stroke of counter-programming, as each series attracted a completely different audience. This left poor ABC with no choice but to order one soldier after the other into the slaughter.

  • Liz herself was getting bored. Look at the superb work she did after, Case of Rape, Lizzie Borden, Awakening Land, all Emmy nominated performances.

  • Liz looks sexy with that tight red sweater and american flag.

  • @JerusalemCherry

Look a little closer. That's actually an American Ecology flag she's sporting...as she did in several episodes that season as well. :-)

  • DAMN SEXY WITH THAT LONG HAIR!

  • All shows lose steam after 4 years. I like Dick Sargent, he brought something different to the role. He was meaner to Endora. I like both Darrins. Just enjoy them both for what they were. You can't go back 43 years and undo it.

  • @DA90027 it was really a good series. Even Dallas got old after x amount of seasons. It is all in the production staff and all in the writing as well as in the talent of the actors/actresses involved in the series. Glad to see these shows being preserved and making it to DVD.

  • @DA90027 Superb point!

  • Bewitched had more than run its course at this point. Still, I don't understand why new writers weren't hired to keep the episodes somewhat original.

  • @Fgrandinetti I think they wanted to stick with the way they did it not tolose loyal viewers,it was kinda lame how they redid old versions of shows with the new Darrin,it didnt really work,I never understood why the cast him to replace dick york, they could of found a better replacement.

  • Cute!
