Part 3: Would be best if I could find out the procedures for repainting used auto-body parts, specifically the proper preparation of the Metal Hood and Fiberglass Headlamp Header Assembly that has a base cote and clear coat original paint, and how to match the paint. Such as information on whether I should have a body shop mix the paint or whether the local auto parts store will mix it right. I have pieces of the original damaged parts to match the paint to.
Part 2: I need to know if the old base/clear needs to be sanded totally off, or if you just sand with a specific grit paper, then apply sealer/base (metallic gray)/clear paint. I want it to bond well and not peel off after a short time. This is a fairly low mileage car with lots of mechanical new parts and it gets good mileage for a mid-size car. Deer hit damaged the radiator support assembly, hood, and headlamp header. Bought a parts car for restoration. Searches end up no hits.
All Expert Village videos are great, learning a lot from them. A little sick and tired of searching for specific videos on how to prepare primarily used body parts from salvage yards for painting. My specific needs are to paint the hood and Headlamp Header Panel that is fiberglass and are both painted with peeling clear cote and badly faded base cote that is a different color than the original paint on a 1985 Plymouth Caravelle. Procedures for repainting, surface preparation process.
