You are confused. Mahdi is not a Prophet. And you should first research into the tafsir/exegeses of the verse you quoted. Rest assured, Prophet Muhammad[s] himself gave glad tidings of him, coming from the lineage of his grandson Hussein[a]. There are 12 Caliphs after the Prophet[s], 12 successors, and the last is the Mahdi.
