There is a special spirit in Poland that I can not explain. I moved back here 3 years ago from the US because I missed Poland so much, and I am so glad I did. That moment in the concert was unbelievable, very moving.  Poland rocks.

On BBC 4 TV last nite "Crude Brittania" was a prog all about North Sea oil. It showed lotza 1980s TV clips, incl Mrs T, interspersed with old pop tunes of that era. Incl in it was U2's "New Years Day". I wonder who complied the music pieces & that did they know U2 were in fact Irish?!

The audience's unity is a beautiful thing to see. As for the version of the song, it lacks passion by Bono. I bet he still's got voice to sing it, but it's the same deal as WOWY... Boy, if I had the chance I'd whisper to him to stop singing what he feels he is SUPPOSED to sing and sing what he feels PASSIONATE singing! I bet he can make the silliest song adorable if he feels passion for it! Anyways, U2 is U2 and it's always a complete experience, to wathc them live! Thanks for sharing it!

I disagree a bit ... you can clearly see how Bono is moved here. I've experienced it in shows before: If you're close to the band you can clearly see the emotion in his face and that's where his passion comes from. I think he is singing passionately, this is just his way of doing it. He really needs a connection with the audience to be passionate, and if the audience is great, the band is great, too. Beautiful video of what looks like an amazing show. Can't wait to see the band again.

I agree w/ vaal in here: yes, he has some gimmicks and acting like a monkey in the encore but his voice lacks passion and strength. when it comes to a singer, passion must flow through the voice, not through facial expression - and I don't think his face shows much of passion, for the record. still, it's a good thing they are playing this song instead of some crappy new stuff like "fez"...
