For some reason Grady didn't think that Mike Timlin, Alan Embree and Derek Lowe could have gotten six outs. It was one of the worst managing jobs of all time. The Sox probably would have lost to the Marlins in the W.S. though.

@joesakic91 yes, but if you just count the sports that both boston and new york have its 36 34 NY, counting the yankees knicks giants and rangers against the celtics SOX patriots and bruins, the only sport that NY tops us in is baseball, besides the yankees the other 3 most successful sports teams in NY have a combined 9 titles, so congrats, want a cookie?

If we do it like that with the "main" sports teams, NY (w/Yankees, Knicks, Giants and Rangers) still have the edge over BOS (Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins), 40-32. You're missing 4 Giants NFL World Championships before the Super Bowl era. NY has the edge in baseball and football while Boston has the edge in Basketball and Hockey.

Yeah, Boston did win some championships in the pre-World Series era, but not under the Red Sox name. It was under the Boston Beaneaters, Boston Red Stockings and the Boston Red Caps (all now the Atlanta Braves).
However, New York also won pre-WS era titles with the Baseball Giants, Brooklyn Superbas, Brooklyn Atlantics, New York Mutuals and Brooklyn Eckfords.
