Actually the explanation is rather mundane and has more to do with scientific controls other youtubers have done more to reduce contamination and have shown that with appropriate controls you can get "good results" from nothing or negative thoughts and it's primarily how you treat your instruments, not what you say to a jar of rice.

It's a worthy attempt, but was unfortunately ruined because you introduced germs into the "You Fool" jar when you touched the rice sticking to to the top of the jar with your fingers (just after dumping in the second 1/2 cup). You also earlier put your hands over both jars before placing the rice inside. When you are working with food, it is important to be as hygienic as possible and to not touch any surfaces with hands. Hope you will try again and be more careful.

@ilovechumz Its not about words. This is an experiment on consciousness and it's effects on water. This was sort of a side experiment of the original set of experiments on water. I think Emoto wanted us to see that what we intend to project with our consciousness (be it language or non-verbal communication) has an affect on water which makes up more than 66% of our body.
There are quite a lot of videos about this exact experiment, none of them can be considered "Good science", no controls or whatever. But the problem here is, the experiment actually works for everyone who tries it. Is it really coincidence that EVERY SINGLE EXPERIMENT results in the negative rice rotting? I know it's not "good science", but how about doing "good math" and checking the probability of this experiment being successful every single time?

This is an interesting experiment. I don't believe that the water in Dr. Emoto's experiments, or the rice in your case, can actually "read" the words. I think it was more to do with the human emotions evoked, however small, when the label was placed on each petri dish. The experiment showed not that the water had it's own consciousness,but rather that matter is directly influenced by people's thoughts or emotions. Dr. emoto used water since it is the most receptive of the 4 elements.
Before the rice was placed in the jars it was more likely that there were airborne bacteria on the top of the rice and less airborne bacteria at the bottom. I noticed that you filled the "Thank You" jar first from the rice from the top middle and bottom middle of the pan of rice. You then filled the "You Fool" jar from the rice on top from both sides of the pan of rice. It seems it is possible that double the bacteria went into the You Fool jar right from the start.
what we have here is a clear case of rice molestation. that 'fool' rice jar never had a chance :)
and i really wish this stuff would work too, if that were the case, mushroom growers everywhere would bless and encourage their grow jars with such faith and righteousness, it would put most monks and priests and the pope to shame

You might wanna redo this! You forgot a control jar that you say 'nothing' to. This will probably look worse than the 'you fool jar' (as bad attention is STILL better than no attention at all). ALSO don't touch the rice!!! Skeptics already point that out, plus the fact you closed the 'I love you' one first, do it opposite next time! Try to leave them away from external devices (like radios and tv's), that scream out the same words as on the jars (leave them in a quiet room. Add more water also.
To have a real scientific proof, one need to make the experiment with a great number of samples AT THE SAME TIME (at least 30), and split them in two groups. The samples should be put in opaque containers during the whole process.
At the end of the process, one should show the experimenter the samples, without telling him on which side they were.
What happens here, is that people who try this experiment badly want it to be true (because they want to believe to surnatural things).
It it works (= if they get what they want) they are likely to make a video of it a to spread the word. If not, they just throw the rice and forget it. Or, more likely, they think they were not sincere enough in the first place, and try again .. until they get what they want.
Hey, you put the last few grains of the "bad" rice (the ones that got stuck at the top of the jar) in with your fingers! Human hands are full of bacteria, so you basically contaminated the "bad" rice right from the beginning.
Just noticed something. The "good" rice was put into the jar first. What would happen if you put the "bad rice in first?

I've done the expiriment myself and as expected it the water on the jar were I put "I hate you" looks dirty and muggy,but the one with "I love you" looks much much better and I couldn't see any particules flotting or little bubbles in the midle of the jar...thank you Emoto. Yes the rice/water does receive the energy from the words but its not because it can read it. It is because the meaning we give behind the words. When most of us see the words "I love you" we produce peptides in our frontal lobe for happiness and the opposite goes for "i hate you". I think what you are doing is very good i do feel it could have been done better perhaps next time consider putting a third control jar that you don't think or say anything to.
i think what he meant by receiving energy from the words was that the vibration or sort of thought u create with the words. If you think of the word love and think of the word hate, those words are kind of like triggers that help u recreate the thought in ur mind of what the idea of those are. So really the experiment can be done with no words on the jars, just real intent.

So, in essence he has made the assumption that water can read, hence I would like to think the rice can too. I think that when he wrote on the water bottles, he also had intent as he was writing. For example if you write i love you to a stranger, i love you to a person you really love, and i love you to someone you truly dislike. you can feel your intent with each one as you write it. At 2:56 she brushes her nose with her right hand, that's after the "Thank You" jar is filled. At 4:05 she used that finger to brush a few rice grains into the "You Fool" jar. Visibly the "You Fool" rice was exposed to her hand more than the "Thank You" rice.

It's a worthy attempt, but was unfortunately ruined because you introduced germs into the "You Fool" jar when you touched the rice sticking to to the top of the jar with your fingers (just after dumping in the second 1/2 cup). You also earlier put your hands over both jars before placing the rice inside. When you are working with food, it is important to be as hygienic as possible and to not touch any surfaces with hands. Hope you will try again and be more careful.

@ilovechumz Its not about words. This is an experiment on consciousness and it's effects on water. This was sort of a side experiment of the original set of experiments on water. I think Emoto wanted us to see that what we intend to project with our consciousness (be it language or non-verbal communication) has an affect on water which makes up more than 66% of our body.

There are quite a lot of videos about this exact experiment, none of them can be considered "Good science", no controls or whatever. But the problem here is, the experiment actually works for everyone who tries it. Is it really coincidence that EVERY SINGLE EXPERIMENT results in the negative rice rotting? I know it's not "good science", but how about doing "good math" and checking the probability of this experiment being successful every single time?

This is an interesting experiment. I don't believe that the water in Dr. Emoto's experiments, or the rice in your case, can actually "read" the words. I think it was more to do with the human emotions evoked, however small, when the label was placed on each petri dish. The experiment showed not that the water had it's own consciousness,but rather that matter is directly influenced by people's thoughts or emotions. Dr. emoto used water since it is the most receptive of the 4 elements.

Before the rice was placed in the jars it was more likely that there were airborne bacteria on the top of the rice and less airborne bacteria at the bottom. I noticed that you filled the "Thank You" jar first from the rice from the top middle and bottom middle of the pan of rice. You then filled the "You Fool" jar from the rice on top from both sides of the pan of rice. It seems it is possible that double the bacteria went into the You Fool jar right from the start.

The James Randi Educational Foundation has offered Emoto a million dollar prize if he can demonstrate his water messages using double-blind testing techniques (wherein the photographer looking at the crystals doesnt know how theyve been treated beforehand). Emoto has so far refused.
Nor has Mr. Emoto ever published a peer-reviewed article in a reputable scientific journal.

its not the rice reading those words. its all about the emotional impact those words have on our minds, and then our minds transmit some kind of waves to the water from the rice... consequently, u can type any words u want or u can simply not type anything, but if u think about opposite things when close to the rice, (such as love and friendship vs hate and anger) , the results will surely differ from each other..put the jars in separate rooms so that u can obtain accurate results ;)

I fully believe in intent, faith and spiritual things, the only problem I have with this experiment is the fact that Danielle contaminated the second jar (the you fool jar) when she touched the rice and blew on it, at that point the jars were no longer equal. I would love to see this experiment again, a control jar would also be a good idea. Please Danielle? That would be much better proof.

You might wanna redo this! You forgot a control jar that you say 'nothing' to. This will probably look worse than the 'you fool jar' (as bad attention is STILL better than no attention at all). ALSO don't touch the rice!!! Skeptics already point that out, plus the fact you closed the 'I love you' one first, do it opposite next time! Try to leave them away from external devices (like radios and tv's), that scream out the same words as on the jars (leave them in a quiet room. Add more water also.

The experimenter should then classify the samples in two categories, depending of how he judges the moistures.
If he gets a success that is beyond any statistical chance, then he can consider there is actually a strange phenomena here.
As is, this experiment as absolutely no scientific value at all.

To have a real scientific proof, one need to make the experiment with a great number of samples AT THE SAME TIME (at least 30), and split them in two groups. The samples should be put in opaque containers during the whole process.
At the end of the process, one should show the experimenter the samples, without telling him on which side they were.

What happens here, is that people who try this experiment badly want it to be true (because they want to believe to surnatural things).
It it works (= if they get what they want) they are likely to make a video of it a to spread the word. If not, they just throw the rice and forget it. Or, more likely, they think they were not sincere enough in the first place, and try again .. until they get what they want.

Hey, you put the last few grains of the "bad" rice (the ones that got stuck at the top of the jar) in with your fingers! Human hands are full of bacteria, so you basically contaminated the "bad" rice right from the beginning.

Just noticed something. The "good" rice was put into the jar first. What would happen if you put the "bad rice in first?
Contamination drops out of the air at about 1 foot per minute (in realively still air). The bad rice jar was exposed to the air longer than the good rice jar. Just an observation. maatyr1878 idea is a good one (as long as he doen't get an overdose of sugar eating all the jam, marmalade ect:-) Thanks for making the video. Looking forward to the updates.

I've done the expiriment myself and as expected it the water on the jar were I put "I hate you" looks dirty and muggy,but the one with "I love you" looks much much better and I couldn't see any particules flotting or little bubbles in the midle of the jar...thank you Emoto. Yes the rice/water does receive the energy from the words but its not because it can read it. It is because the meaning we give behind the words. When most of us see the words "I love you" we produce peptides in our frontal lobe for happiness and the opposite goes for "i hate you". I think what you are doing is very good i do feel it could have been done better perhaps next time consider putting a third control jar that you don't think or say anything to.

i think what he meant by receiving energy from the words was that the vibration or sort of thought u create with the words. If you think of the word love and think of the word hate, those words are kind of like triggers that help u recreate the thought in ur mind of what the idea of those are. So really the experiment can be done with no words on the jars, just real intent.

labels and as an extra means of being positive, we should write Thank you or something positive on our bottles so the water can be blessed and positively affected. So, in essence he has made the assumption that water can read, hence I would like to think the rice can too. Besides that, his experimients with snowflakes were not always spoken too, they were merely labeled. But thanks for the comment!

I think that when he wrote on the water bottles, he also had intent as he was writing. For example if you write i love you to a stranger, i love you to a person you really love, and i love you to someone you truly dislike. you can feel your intent with each one as you write it. So i think the intent has alot to do with it.

Several times in this video you say the rice is reading the "thank you". Rice cant read. My understanding is Dr. Emoto thought that our thoughts are energy. water is the most receptive of the four elements and in theory will respond accordingly to your energy, i too am doing this experiment and have been doing so for about a week now, and the results are amazing.
