  • Bowie was really bad in Basquiat.

  • I'm a huge Bowie fan (my name reflects that) and have actively followed him since 1971 though his acting has never been up to par at least in my opinion. Of course there are Bowie fans who feel he can do no wrong and who are also intolerant of opinions to the contrary.

  • Bowie is a freakin' genius, period.

  • schibel sucks

  • This is so great, thank you so much for posting it.

  • David bowie starts at 23:25

  • Gemma the sad,sad part is that rimbaud51 whatever does not believe I own a meesly 2 (two) paintings by Julian S....figure this loser's jealous rage...where in God's name does rage like that come from?

    Email me...over 2 paintings ,no less...Cripes I'm retired at age 49 already...what?

  • still I think david bowie is such an underestimated artist

  • i would also like to thank you for posting this

  • thanks for posting this!

  • What do you EXACTLY mean by that?

  • plush safe he think

  • artists ridiculous demi gods

  • the good die young

  • those messed up on drugs also die young

  • How Schnabel's paintings have become famous, I'm not sure.

I even like Jeff Koons much more than Julian Schnabel.

  • basquiat was a jerk what are u talking about. if anything he made him seem like a pushover, read his bio. julian as a person is great, because hes not fake, hes as real as u can get, he doesnt give a shit! now as an atist i dont think hes very good.

  • David Bowie. He does not pretend.

  • I hate you Schnabel, you made Jean seem like a heartless jerk

  • Just for you.

  • As a painter. . . I love this movie!

  • August 9, 1996 Thi is the day I was born! OMG!

  • this julian guy's a commie

  • new religion of consumer imagism. nice

  • Excellent TV.

  • what's bowie talking about.

  • Of course that David Bowie met to Andy Warhol in the Factory, when Bowie was a mime.

  • OMG.. David Bowie's like.. "Hi, I'm David Bowie, I'm a rockstar....... AND A FUCKING BRAIN." How'd he get so smart? Just from reading books? Wow.. I need to read more. Like, he's so cultured and experienced and smart *guuhhh* <3

  • natalleah, you should meet a qualified psycologist. I MEAN IT.

  • wow ! That was fascinating !

  • Warhols diaries tell us that Andy thought Schnabel to be a bit of a pretentious ass, yet he respected him (and anyone) for the fact that he sold for major money. Time has not and will not be kind to Basquiat...Clemente and even Ray Pettibon will prove to be far greater artists than either Basquiat or Schnabel.

  • "Andy thought Schnabel to be a bit of a pretentious ass"

    takes one to know one

  • you're a pretentious ass.

create any masterpieces lately? or just talk shit on youtube™ forums?.

  • I havent created many lately. But Warhol did. And that is who wrote Schnabel was a pretentious ass. In his diaries. You fuck.

  • I think Andy ws right ... as indicated by the carefully left open top shirt buttons. Yeech.

  • As a artist, I pray to reach the highs of great artist just as these. I love the work of Jean-Michael Basquiate and Frida. High praises for these masters of art.

  • that was educational

  • great interview -- though more commentary on jeffrey wright's amazing portrayal of basquiat is sorely missed

  • so nice to see people NOT kissing each other's asses for a change

  • lmao

  • Now "high art" is referred to blue chip art.. it has turned into a game. The art world has a new meaning.

  • I wonder if Julian new the Velvet Underground stayed across the street from his house when they had a gig at Liberty Hall in Houston in the early 70's.

  • Bowie really sums up what Andy's art was all about, many "art historians" don't understand the religious aspect of it the way Bowie does.

  • jean-michel = the bom.

    jean-michel=real

    jean-michel=art

    jean-michel=us

    jean-michel=pure

    ruudje07

  • great great interview.

  • thank you for adding this show, its one of my favorites...

if you can, please add the other schnabel episode that aired...its great for the arts...something people today need to be reminded of.
