  • This video is all over the place, stick to the subject.

  • i understood this, but how to make a new menu, like resources down below?

  • shit.. wtf atleast sync the video and audio!

  • Don't zoom in so much. :l

  • Very usefull video for Joomla cms

  • I'm dizzy

  • Zoom out!!!

  • Confusing... Delete the video, make a new one...

  • Awful!!

  • zoom out dude

  • This video made me kill a kitten.

  • what I would like to know is how to add the title attribute to the links in a menu;

    eg: " << a title= ' custom title ' "

I'm guessing it is somewhere in modules/mod_mainmenu but I still haven't found a sollution...

  • You should take a course in training programs. You sure make it difficult.

  • Terrible video. Thank you for confusing and making me giddy.

  • my ass. i dnt even have the first page manager.???? UUGGHHH

  • fucckkkk . . vry zoom

  • when i save my menu item, it doesn't show up on menu item manager???

  • I can't see what you are doing, really...........To close to see clear ......ZOOOOMMM it out.

  • how do you strip down all the content from the basic joomla, do you just unpublish everything?

  • completely useless

  • Man that video was hard to watch. Sorry, but I think the content was probably ok, and was exactly what I was trying to learn, but I couldn't work out what you were doing 'cos you zoomed in to such a small section of your screen the video was always panning.

I don't think I can watch it again, my eyes hurt... (nice try though)

  • I want to create online book. On the left pane he sees titles of chapters. When he clicks on a chapter title, then it expands and the sections inside that chapter are displayed. When he clicks on a section, then the contents of the section are displayed.

The content may contain anything - formatted text, graphics, audio, video, animation.Do you think this can be done thorugh Joomla? Or, will you suggest some other content management system? Thanks.

  • Vote Yes if this video was one of the most annoying waste of time ever!!!

  • Ok let me see if i get this. Articles are like the body of you webpage, Catagorys are for Sub titles, Sections are for section titles? Am i right? If not what is the order?

  • thanx 4 sharing bro :)

  • Why are all the tutorials based on creating side menus I'm trying to set up a horizontal menu with tabs across each page. I think it's called a top menu. No tutorials anywhere. I've been at it 4 hours. this is nuts.

  • @advantagesocialmedia

I had the same issue, I purchased the joomla template kit by Brian Diaz, Media 65. I was apprehensive and thought it would be a total waste of money, everyone was singing it's praises, but I was still not sure. The kit was not only good, the tutorials accompanying it were priceless. Might be an idea to check it out, it has the top menu tutorial and some fantastic explanations. Hope that helps.

  • @advantagesocialmedia

PS. I'm not on commission, lol, nor is it SPAM, It genuinely helped me... alot.

  • @advantagesocialmedia The process is the same. You need to look at your template. It is all based on styling. Most come with a horizontal menu position. Artisteer is a program that allows you to easily create Joomla templates. DreamWeaver CS5 has Joomla support in it but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

  • thankss

  • that was confusing

  • @caitlin03333 :) What are you having issues with?

  • @robbluther the confusing things is, you zoom too much >.<

, and what are displayed doesn't match exactly what u're talking.

  • @robbluther the audio is out of sync

  • @robbluther first of all, the way your video recording program shows this entire video is confusing.

show the entire screen and not just a small part of it. the way your program follows that mouse from one end of your screen to another is hard to follow.

  • Thanks a lot bro ;-)

  • I follow the steps but the when I click then link to my article from my main menu, the page is not formatted properly (no css is applied) what did i do wrong ?

  • @mojokertensis That sounds like an issue with your .htaccess maybe? There is something breaking the style.

  • @robbluther I have this same problem and have no idea how to correct the issue. When I first click the preview button the site is formatted correctly but clicking an article it takes away the css formatting. It's very frustrating and searching in google hasn't yielded much help.

  • @Shoguo What editor are you using? If it is TinyMCE, you may want to change it to the JCE Editor. That is my editor of choice. After installing it, make sure you either set it as the default or set it as the editor under your profile. There are settings within the editor component that will allow you to use CSS.

  • @robbluther I installed the editor, but when someone actually visits the site and clicks a menu link, it still strips the formatting.

  • @Shoguo Can you send me a PM with the URL?

  • @Shoguo Can you send me a PM with the URL?

  • The info is ok but - OMG! - the tutor is jerking the cursor back and forth and up n' down. IT GIVES ME A ROYAL PAIN IN MY EYES to follow that jerking cursor. You need to relax and become a little bit less nervous.

  • hey Rob! Thanks for the video.

Could you please clarify what is the difference between the alias when creating an article and the alias when adding a menu item? And which one takes precedence? At 4:46 you say that Joomla fills the alias field automatically but I don't see that in the video.

    Would appreciate your help! Thanks!

  • @superflyUK The menu alias is used when you link to a MENU item rather than an article. Which ever link you create would take precedence.

    Hope that helps!

  • @robbluther thank you :)

  • Sems a lil out of sync here and there but this is a minor niggle for what i think is the best beginner's tut on youtube to date :)

  • @gregtdude Yes, this was an early video for me. As I add more vids, hopefully my quality will improve! :P

  • dear rob i love you you just solved my problem i m too much of a stone age person to figure this out by myself

  • @ikalwewe Well, heck, it sure is nice to be loved!!

  • what is the link for that so i can go to it.

  • Reasonable intro to the BACK-END.

While it is possible to create contents from the back end, it is wrong to do so.

The back end is for site management - not content creation.

    The proper workflow is:

    Author creates the article,

Editor corrects it (spelling, punctuation, grammar)

Publisher checks it (facts, ethics, legalities) then publishes it.

All this is from the FRONT END.

What do you think, why does Joomla! have the Author, Editor and Publisher?

  • @szoroshun I wouldn't say it is wrong. The Author, Editor, Publisher roles are exactly as you way but if I am a webmaster who is the only content provider to the website, am I going to utilize that? I think not.

But you are exactly right when it comes to many users.

  • Voice-over is not in sync with video. Makes it very difficult to follow for me.

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Keep up the good work:-).

For free extensions visit our extensions page. Just type in google: 'Qlue extensions'

  • Damn this is so hard to used compared to WordPress. WordPress is so much more automated and user friendly.

  • It is, but there is a lot more horsepower to Joomla. I use WordPress all the time, but there are times that it just won't do what I need. If you are building a simple site, I would stick with WP.

  • great videos! i'm making a website for a school project and was wonder how students can post their comments can you please help me on that for ex- the category is books for sale- than students can post what they have for sale

  • Perfect video... just perfect!

  • In every Joomla tut I watch I learn some special little thing that is invaluable later on. I was having module and menu trouble and this vid helps. Thank you.

  • Thank you man!

Will go to part 2, and keep learning...

    Great video.

  • robbluther, Not just another video.

  • you're zoomed in too much and the constant switching from left to right and up and down is really bad to watch. my head is spinning

  • this is why I love youtube for this exact reason, when I don't wanna read stuffs in the book just type a topic in the search field and walla!

  • @albeanmagz19 totally, dude! Youtube is the greatest teacher! :)

  • @albeanmagz19 Walla? Seriously?!

  • @albeanmagz19 *voila

  • @fiyamage It is a French word and is spelled voila and it means something lika "tada!"

  • very good video buddy. thanks. will check out the rest. i am currently using joomla

  • Hi man !

I want to ask,how did you change your "title tab"

Where in your video says "paintball pennsylvania....."

    Thanks

  • Go to global configuration and change Site Name

  • I know. This was one of my first tutorials and I was still getting used to the software. I have been posting more at the GeekEpic Channel.

  • good first tutorial btw

  • OUT OF SYNC!

  • thnx dude for helping to start :)

  • I always appreciate it when anyone takes the time and effort to produce a tutorial.

However, that being said, I have two complaints.

    1) sound was not synchronized very well and

    2) There was entirely too much close up for this demonstration which caused an enormous amount of screen shifting back and forth.

The material presented was good, my suggestion is to back away so we can see more of the screen and only go in for a closeup when it's necessary.

    Thanks

  • The sound seems to skip forward at roughly 1:45 and the 5 minute mark.

  • tutorials on including forum module or component in joomla please. :) oh and calendar also. tnx

  • Muchas gracias ..

    fue de mucha ayuda...

  • I think there may be some sound lag, but other than that great tutorial

  • thank you very useful.
