Man that video was hard to watch. Sorry, but I think the content was probably ok, and was exactly what I was trying to learn, but I couldn't work out what you were doing 'cos you zoomed in to such a small section of your screen the video was always panning.
I don't think I can watch it again, my eyes hurt... (nice try though)
I want to create online book. On the left pane he sees titles of chapters. When he clicks on a chapter title, then it expands and the sections inside that chapter are displayed. When he clicks on a section, then the contents of the section are displayed.
The content may contain anything - formatted text, graphics, audio, video, animation.Do you think this can be done thorugh Joomla? Or, will you suggest some other content management system? Thanks.
Ok let me see if i get this. Articles are like the body of you webpage, Catagorys are for Sub titles, Sections are for section titles? Am i right? If not what is the order?
Why are all the tutorials based on creating side menus I'm trying to set up a horizontal menu with tabs across each page. I think it's called a top menu. No tutorials anywhere. I've been at it 4 hours. this is nuts.
I had the same issue, I purchased the joomla template kit by Brian Diaz, Media 65. I was apprehensive and thought it would be a total waste of money, everyone was singing it's praises, but I was still not sure. The kit was not only good, the tutorials accompanying it were priceless. Might be an idea to check it out, it has the top menu tutorial and some fantastic explanations. Hope that helps.
@advantagesocialmedia The process is the same. You need to look at your template. It is all based on styling. Most come with a horizontal menu position. Artisteer is a program that allows you to easily create Joomla templates. DreamWeaver CS5 has Joomla support in it but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.
@robbluther first of all, the way your video recording program shows this entire video is confusing.
show the entire screen and not just a small part of it. the way your program follows that mouse from one end of your screen to another is hard to follow.
I follow the steps but the when I click then link to my article from my main menu, the page is not formatted properly (no css is applied) what did i do wrong ?
@robbluther I have this same problem and have no idea how to correct the issue. When I first click the preview button the site is formatted correctly but clicking an article it takes away the css formatting. It's very frustrating and searching in google hasn't yielded much help.
@Shoguo What editor are you using? If it is TinyMCE, you may want to change it to the JCE Editor. That is my editor of choice. After installing it, make sure you either set it as the default or set it as the editor under your profile. There are settings within the editor component that will allow you to use CSS.
The info is ok but - OMG! - the tutor is jerking the cursor back and forth and up n' down. IT GIVES ME A ROYAL PAIN IN MY EYES to follow that jerking cursor. You need to relax and become a little bit less nervous.
Could you please clarify what is the difference between the alias when creating an article and the alias when adding a menu item? And which one takes precedence? At 4:46 you say that Joomla fills the alias field automatically but I don't see that in the video.
@szoroshun I wouldn't say it is wrong. The Author, Editor, Publisher roles are exactly as you way but if I am a webmaster who is the only content provider to the website, am I going to utilize that? I think not.
But you are exactly right when it comes to many users.
It is, but there is a lot more horsepower to Joomla. I use WordPress all the time, but there are times that it just won't do what I need. If you are building a simple site, I would stick with WP.
great videos! i'm making a website for a school project and was wonder how students can post their comments can you please help me on that for ex- the category is books for sale- than students can post what they have for sale
In every Joomla tut I watch I learn some special little thing that is invaluable later on. I was having module and menu trouble and this vid helps. Thank you.

what I would like to know is how to add the title attribute to the links in a menu;
eg: " << a title= ' custom title ' "
I'm guessing it is somewhere in modules/mod_mainmenu but I still haven't found a sollution...

@superflyUK The menu alias is used when you link to a MENU item rather than an article. Which ever link you create would take precedence.
Hope that helps!

Reasonable intro to the BACK-END.
While it is possible to create contents from the back end, it is wrong to do so.
The back end is for site management - not content creation.
The proper workflow is:
Author creates the article,
Editor corrects it (spelling, punctuation, grammar)
Publisher checks it (facts, ethics, legalities) then publishes it.
All this is from the FRONT END.
What do you think, why does Joomla! have the Author, Editor and Publisher?
szoroshun 1 year ago
@szoroshun I wouldn't say it is wrong. The Author, Editor, Publisher roles are exactly as you way but if I am a webmaster who is the only content provider to the website, am I going to utilize that? I think not.

I always appreciate it when anyone takes the time and effort to produce a tutorial.
However, that being said, I have two complaints.
1) sound was not synchronized very well and
2) There was entirely too much close up for this demonstration which caused an enormous amount of screen shifting back and forth.
The material presented was good, my suggestion is to back away so we can see more of the screen and only go in for a closeup when it's necessary.
Thanks
