Make sure to get 54UGB (they are awesome) power tube and put the amp on 50W setting...use the settings in the video! Also, use the 4ohm outlet...gives you a darker sound with the cab.

Very Good Brownhog!!I had the 55 watt head, and it really needed that 5 Band EQ. I tried outboard EQs, but it is definitely not the same as the onboard Mesa 5 Band.Big difference having that EQ, it will make, or Break eh amp. I have a Mesa QUAD going into the 295 MESA Simul, and with that EQ Forget about it. It is so versatile, and gives it amazing tone, from MK II C, all the way to Recto Killer tone. Let me know waht you think about this Nomad 100 compared to the RECTO Thanks Jim

I used to have one of these, gigged A WHOLE LOT on it and it never failed me. Sold it to buy a Soldano. I don't regret that at all, as I love the Soldano to death, and its also never failed me, but did like the nomad too......its like girls, ideally I'd have all of em, I just cant afford to.....

How do you think this head compares to the Mark V and Dual Rectifier for metal? What genre was this head mainly made for?

Mesa amps are NOT like other amps as far as the EQ sections. ALL KNOBS AFFECT HOW THE CHANNEL RESPONDS!!! You will have to spend a LOT of time getting the sounds you want. I would suggest getting an outboard EQ for the loop to account for room differences. Otherwise you will get to a gig and it will take you forever to get your sound dialed in.

@tatsandteles not true, there are mesa boogies where really all knobs affect all channels. But with the mesa boogie nomad 100, the knobs only affect their channel, so if you change the 3th channel completely, it wont affect the first one.

@zeqpic I didn't say that. That would be idiotic. The knobs for each channel are independant to that channel. What I said was how every knob, when turned in a particular channel, affect how the other knobs in that channel respond. It also affects how the channels gain is affected. It's like a never ending tail chasing experience. And God forbid you should change guitars. Then the process starts all over again. By the way, I currently own 2 Mesa amps so it isn't just Mesa hate here.

Look at the video and twist the knowbs into the same setting (copy my settings). Also, use teh amp in 50 watt mode and use the 4 ohm speaker outlets.

No, it doesn't let you play percussion on your stings like a Krank, but that does not make the tones not metal. Very solid amp for thrash-type-stuff

Well, that is one way to say it. Another way one be that you did not know how to set it up to get the best sound out of it. I get great sound out of mine and it can actually stand up to my Recto. Were your tubes bad, did you have a good cabinet, we your running overdrive in front of it? I find the amp to be awesome...with some tweaking of course.

Yes, the Nomad does well with thrash metal sounds...I use it in my metal band and it really helps me cut above the mix!

Cool amp. Which do you personally like better, the Mesa Triple Rectifier of Nomad 100? I like the triple, but the nomad is a little more flexible.

They are voiced different man. The Nomad is very strong and sounds fantastic and cuts through the mix extremely well. The recto has a few more overtones that make me like it a little more.  Not by much surprisingly...I ordered a Mark V so it will pretty much become my #1 amp.

Would a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier with EL34 tubes sound different than a Dual Rectifier with stock tubes? Because Devin Towsend's Dual Rectifier had EL34 tubes. Do you think his Dual Rectifier that he used in the instructional dvd sounded different than a stock one?

Yes a recto with EL34s will sound different than one with 6L6s. I don't have Devin's instructional DVD so I ca't tell you hwat he's doing. It all depends on your taste in tubes.

Also, why dont you run the triple recto and Nomad together. It wouldn't be that hard.

I did not get rid of my 2X12. I just used the 4X12 for the review. I do bi-amp the Nomad and Mesa from time to time. And yes, it is very easy to do...so easy a caveman could do it...I always wanted to say that!

Is it annoying to have to take apart your setup and hook it up to the nomad and then again to go back to the triple recto?

Not annoying at all. That is one of the reasons I don't bi-amp these amps. I use the Nomad and the 2X12 to practice with the bands I am in. I don't lug the big rig around unless I am gigging in a big place. I am getting a MARK V which I will biamp. That will be fun...I will probably wind up keeping the Nomad to prevent from taking things apart so I can experiment more with bi-amping.

The mids are scooped in the EQ, but not drastically. Completely scooping the mids makes the guitar feel harder to play and takes all the body away. thanks for watching!!!
