  • Always be improved upon

  • Let's keep it real the tremolo is the holy grail of guitar and it really is something that will a

  • i listen to him every morning before i play this song on guitar .!

  • Super!

  • This is the most non-static performance ever. Its like the other voice or bass line is played by another player; as if this were a duet. And the tremolo stays consistent! You have to of played this piece to appreciate how difficult that is to do. Most players, with consistenty even tremolo play well but sound too robotic. You could hear this piece later and always know this is the Henderson interpretation.

  • wow I almost forgot to breath...what a joy!

  • this version is so lovely

  • excellent

  • this is definitely one of the best versions i have ever heard, next to segovia's one

  • What is the pattern his fingers are playing in during the tremolo picking? Is it index, middle, ring, index? Sort of a 1-2-3-2? I cannot tell if he uses his fourth finger .

  • @fatboyphil044 The pattern is p, a, m, i, which is thumb, ring finger, middle, and index. So you play the bass note with the thumb and then you play the three melody notes after it with a, m, i. So no he does not use his pinky.

  • @fatboyphil044 the typical pattern is like slymuse suggested, though it's worth noting that it's an E open string so control of the tempo is more important. I've known people who play it index-middle-ring but with the same control. He doesn't use his pinky mostly because the patterns are in threes.

  • very good you are the one i will try to

  • Very nice interpretation!

  • lovely

  • Fantastic version

  • Amazingly lovely expression, superbly clean fretboard work, right hand melody unbelievable--spectacular performance. Segovia would have been proud!!! Big thank you for this video!

  • Nice!!

  • Beautiful.

  • buenisimo!!!!

  • Nice music. It is beautiful

  • Very nicely done eric

  • so....so GREAT, I love your music.

  • My My father is a traditional classical guitar intructor. I grew up listening to my Hungarian Father play this piece while growing up on Balboa Peninsula. He spent alot of time in Spain with Jose Thomas, Ramirez and Segovia in the 60's and 70's. When I was a young girl, he would play flamenco, and his Spanish friend would dance in tight black pants and billowing white shirt, with a pair of castinets, on top of our coffee table (which was a huge varsished slice of a redwood tree ). Ole"

  • You are very lucky to have such memories.

  • @AngelaImryBritton What a wonderful thing to remember. I can imagine it.

  • @AngelaImryBritton just shut up

  • @AngelaImryBritton

    What wonderful memories you have!

I am a spanish woman living abroad and this music, which I never appreciated years ago as a teenager, now makes me cry... Life is truly unpredictable

  • The awesome beauty of both the music and the performance brings me tears. Nice tears!! Than you so much! Barry

  • absolutely beautiful: thank you!

  • exelent interpretation

  • Wonderful clear higher notes melody beyond the theme! Wonderful. Thanks

  • Bravo.

    Perfect.

  • MAESTRO

  • thank you so much!

  • I've listened to at least a dozen versions of this masterpiece tonight and Eric's was easily the most poignant - played slowly with a soft limpid tone (too many other interpreters rush it or treat it like a technical tremolo exercise). Beautiful.

  • @marcchrys I disagree. He´s galloping during most of the piece. Neither the odd sforzato he uses on his p (right-hand thumb) contributes to the smoothness that's essential to tremolo.

  • @lokoxlascuerdas the majority of smooth tremolo player play this piece WAY too fast. I hate when it's treated like an exercise. Regardless if you like this version or not, you should be able to see that he plays it with incredible precision.

  • @benhoward1 ben, ty for posting. "Galloping" is a matter of regularity, not of speed. It happens usually when the time interval between the "p" and the "a" fingers pluckings is larger than between other fingers: It is a consequence of p-a being the largest geometrical distance among right hand's fingers. If you listen carefully from 0:47 to 1:06 for example, he WAY gallops! He then switches to smooth tremolo, later on gallops again, and so on. Art not only means feeling, it also means ability.

  • @lokoxlascuerdas The tone though is remarkable and his timing is probably my favorite. So yes while his tremolo may not be par with that of someone like John Williams or Yepes, he plays it far more superior to my liking. You can even see his hand deviate from natural form so the thumb gets more attack. Having practiced this piece for months and getting it to sound barely worth listening to, I realize he has put a lot of practice into this.

  • @marcchrys It was very good, perhaps not quite as good as the very best, though not far from it. A bit deliberate in parts but way better than I could manage, with a bit more emotion Eric you would be fabulous. Let yourself go mate.

  • Sublime interpretation, Eric was always in control of the tempo, the tonal quality he achieved was so pleasing to the ear!!

  • Not rushing it, as too many do, which loses the poignant mood. Superb!

  • i agree! if you do not watch but just listen to playing it makes you think there are two person playing. perfect notes!

  • Thank you very much for the most beautiful music in the world and your wonderful interpretation.

  • Fantastic......bravo !!!!!

  • Flawless.

  • Beautiful interpretation =)

  • Great performance. I feel inspired now as I've unknowingly been trying to play it "Henderson-like".

  • besides, i like the same part he seems to like (3'00'' and on).

  • (he, he.)

  • I love the counterpoint in this performance.

  • Nossa!!! Isto está simplesmente divino..., excepcional..., magnânimo..., não há palavras que definam está magnificência de música...

    Adorei a interpretação...

  • A very beautiful performance for a masterpiece of guitar literature

  • Interesting interpretation. Thanks for sharing.

  • yes, you have done it. you certaintly inspire us all. thank you for that performance...peace. 5 stars

  • eric plays Recuerdos better than anybody else, he puts his own personality in it, as eric would say it does't sound sterial. Eric thank you to teaching me this piece, and grace, and La La Bye. RJ Encinitas CA.

  • I have to admit, first time I heard it I didn't know what to expect and why his version sound so different, but after I compare it to other ones, I see how he wants to make a point. I guess it all depends on who plays it and who listens. All the other ones seem to be too much in a hurry.

  • Flawless..best version I've heard so far..not too fast and very easy to listen to.

  • Now thats how its played! You make every note count, very fine performance indeed, one of the very best versions i have heard, bravo!

  • I am fascinated.

I heard this piece really often, but your playing made me smile !

    Thanks,

    wolfgang

  • excellent

  • Wow. It doesn't surprise me at all that you studied with the maestro himself. This is truely exceptional. I am a new fan of your work. If you are ever in Portland, OR I will sign up to play in your master class - Karla

  • This is very beuatiful Thanks. --God Bless--
