Dr. Brummet is pretty friendly. I think he's used to lecturing students for hours and hours b/c he would say alot w/o getting many points across.

Dr. Burmmet's argument seems to be that religions are populated by controlled an enormous number of extremists (anyone who doesn't think seriously about their faith before believing it, as defined by him) but a relatively tiny number of reasonable religious people should be taken into account as well... isn't...that supposed to be what Hitchens is arguing?

7:10 - I'm no prescriptivist, but it would help if he used the term "absolutist" since "extreme" usually means tending to one end of the bell curve of a population. Hitchens may cover this but had to get it out there.

This debate is a beautiful thing to watch ...to some. It's a frustrating thing to watch to others. To more still, its boring.

To me, it's beautiful, but I'm not like other people.

The state of the person perceiving affects their perception.

Hitchens arrives at this fact at the end of this video: "I don't believe in God. I believe MAN created GOD."

It is this FOUNDATIONAL thought on which the mind arrives at the ONLY stream of logic that justifies religion.

Brummett's only arguement seems to be that Hitchens doesn't comply to the Brummett definition of the word extremist...

Love that statement re the chromosomes and chimpanzee, given the activities of chimps are so close to humans and chimps make tools and many humans easily act as chimps then its more than a theory it has practical import, nice turn of phrase there Christopher, well done :-)

Dr. Brummet is a terrible salesman for Christianity. I doubt most Christians share the same "uncertainty" about the so-called Word of God as he does.

@jalopez270668 You can go to any lesbian bar if you would like to find a somewhat overweight bald woman with a beard, but I doubt you'd be able to reach couple status with them. Assuming you're male of course.

Barry Brummett summed up his acceptance of Christophers position by sharing:

Mind you, I do need to read up on Barry Brummett, as I am stil unsure of what his position is, if any.

@thedeeliciousplum As I listened to Mr. Brummett make his opening remarks I also wondered what his position was. I thought the debate was about religions impact on society and if it is positive or not ... he seemed to go on about unrelated things.
