  • that sound at 1:48 sounds too familiar... i think i heard it from Scooby Doo

  • 1:48 is that the beatles?

  • Through!!

  • I've been around hip hop forever and one constant to me is that Common Sense has always , always, always sucked. I can't believe that dude made another album after his first album.

Common Sense is the poster child of wack rappers.

  • @Amrekaten What are you talkin about???? I'll admit Can I Borrow A Dollar was pretty whack, but are you tellin me that Resurrection wasn't on point? Like what about I Used to Love H.E.R. or The Light?

  • @SolosFlows Common has made some good songs its just me. I don't like his flow it alone tunes me out and I stop listening to him. Hell I'm the same way with Nas and of course as most say he is the shit. Flow styles fuck me up

  • @Amrekaten Ahh I understand bro. It's a personal preference I suppose.

  • common!!!

  • That's fucking awesome

  • @digitaldevilxl sorry dude I'm not gonna argue with you.. I have no interests in touting what I have done in hip hop... sounds like your just mad that technology has moved on... if your so angry about people showing you bad music here is a thought... inspire and help them to create better music. we all started somewhere... some of us are just built for this. some of us will for ever complain and wish for the past... I prefer to move forward. best of luck to you. hope u don't die so sad.

  • Awesome !!!

  • yo check out my shit!

  • pete rock looks like a mixture between big l and the gza his beats are amazing tho

  • get a FREE SP1200 check this out: ww w . sp1200-thebook . com

  • Ha, I see my logo in the bottom corner. I love finding my rips online

    DreadInNY

  • @DreadzNY xD

  • Fruity who? Loops? lol... future producers have gotta get their hardware sampler game up! oh and your gonna have to get your record (vinyl) library game up too!

  • this means you're actually gonna have to listen to some good music and think outside the box. The SP will test you because you can't just yolk peoples music. It only gives 10 seconds of sample time. Of course there are work arounds but at first you have to crawl through those 10 seconds. Once you master that, you will be well on your way!

  • @kennylauderdale I was on Future Producers for some time. The forum sucks.. All of these cats making cheesy ass garbage beats and they be like 'yo gimme feedback ima give you back'...

  • bow to tthe og

  • 2 ppl ummmmmmmmmm.... 2ppl are wack

  • Kanye may use an 808 and a 200XL, but there's a big difference between having the gear and having the skill.

  • (sarcasm)Where's the computer interface? Where's the firewire and VST plug ins and bitcrusher plug-ins? Oh my God 10 seconds of sample time....what could i possibly do with that!?!?! That Sp1200 is too big it sucks...who uses a floppy disk anymore? (sarcasm)

I love the Sp1200, The Emax and The MPC60......limits make you break them.....peace.

  • @nicknafp Pete Rock Feat. Big Punisher, Noreaga, Common - Verbal Murder 2

  • @bruno21390 tnx man..great song.

  • Are u niggas serious!!! Those songs are fucking tight because of the producers. he's lyrics and delivery as a rapper is so fucking week. no style. Dont tell me to go listen... Youll need to get that wax out ur ears and listen again. Pay attention this time.

  • FAKE LOOK IT'S PLASTIC!

  • yoooooooooooo dont do this to me

    sounds so heavenly.

  • @flux .. sorry its not the same .. im telling you . that shiit is not respected unless you wanna look like a lame like lex luger .. hahaha

  • @flux302 .... fuck using whats around you , if it wasnt for the sp 1200 or the tr 808 .. classic hip hop wouldnt be gritty . ur just a broke ni99a yappin out his azz dumb nigger.. lol

  • too bad common is like the worst hip-hop artist of all time.

  • @fuktface are you serious................

  • and please tell me the song name at 1:30 : )

  • @ShuffleBassT Pete Rock feat C.L Smooth - Da Two

  • @J4mMazTaR4Y

    thanks man !

  • the first beat is one of the best ive ever heard !

has he used it allready in a song ?

one love for real HIP HOP ♥

  • That sample came from Fat Albert I think I remember always hearing that sound.

  • I use whatever the situation calls for...Frooty Loops, Drumulator, SP1200, Ensonic ASR 16, 16+, 10, X, MPC 500, 1500, 2000, Dr. Rhythm, Yamaha...shit....whatever the fuck sounds hot at the time. True beat makers have a favorite tool, but they also know when & how to freak ANY sound. You see Pete Rock freaked the hell outta a sound he found on fuckin Sesame Street or The Electric Company (can't remember where). Bottom line is, keep yo options open to whatever...hiphop is organic as fuck.

  • Fl studio is wack !!! He used ut cuz he had nuthing but when u have a lil dough he went to the mpc !! 2500 ... Unless u wanna be like lex luger --- that aint hip hop !! Lol

  • @DigitalDevilXL F*ck it. I got friends that don't really get down in the live beat making mode, they prefer a slower step/ piano roll approach. they hip hop as Fuck too... just cause they don't get down on the mpc or maschine or mv or what ever doesn't matter. hip hop is not a commercial image to be bought and sold at the music gear store. its a mentality. USE WHAT WORKS FOR YA WORKFLOW... not what people around you tell you you need.

  • @flux302 hahaha! what fuckin magazine you read that from!? use what works? sounds like your some cyber punk who never came from the sp1200 era! what you got? all that rip off software like everbody else? get the fuck out here if you aint never earned ya stripes in the game! you just another cheap ass nigga tryin to get over with that talk! and.. spell the god dam shit correct young nut! too many of yall think HIP HOP is all about some corny ass RAPPER!

  • @ozulu45 not so sure you have any idea what your talking about. um... you can check my videos to see what I use.. it's far from just software. hell I staid away from software till it got to good to ignore. I been making beats on machines since the s900, ... and won more battles in person than you've viewed on youtube... go back to class. smh...

  • @flux302 WON BATTLES? how about it being on wax?? been there kid! you keep the battles homie! i got paid for my beats! you go back and find where you actually made money off of that shit! f.y.i i go back to the muthafuckin EMU DRUMMULATOR! i got turntables Techs 1200,1500,AND 1100A! fool! i aint one of these cyber maggots who "troll" thru youtube for info to claim i know somethin!

  • @flux302 true! my crew uses all types of ish. from analog samplers to software. and we all flip shit. ppl get caught up in the hype, i myself was one of those ppl till i saw niggas killing it with the software. i still use my mpc tho hahahahh!

  • @flux302 one of the best comments I read in a while

  • @DigitalDevilXL what are u talkiing about i use fl studio and i make some hot as sample beats nothing wrong with it. when i get my money up that 's im gonna use the mpc 500

  • It don't matter what you use. Like 9th wonder he makes really nice sampled joints just on his fl studio. It's just preference. I love my mp.

  • OHH YOU GUYZ ARE FUNNY! CHECK YO HISTORY! cats didnt even go sample crazy until 1987! here's a well known group for you twitter bitches! RUN DMC! used synthezier and drum machines on their first two albums, you didnt here a real LONG so-called sample until the RASIN HELL album! and that was JAY cuttin up MARDI GRAS! if cats we're more creative other than usin PRO TOOLZ OR REASONS software for the same old 808 sounds. Samplin analog drums from break records should still be in play now!

  • @ozulu45 Well it is isnt it?

  • @FelixTheHouseFreak uh maybe you should ask yourself? Iam not one of those useless cyber turds who never bought one piece of equipment! and talk that protoolz crap up like every single idiot in they hood does! we all know that anybody defending themselves about using rip off software aint had skill to begin with anyway! theres like every little wanna bee producer on every street now! earn ya stripes first!!

  • @ozulu45 I don't get why your coming at people commenting on the fact it's GOOD to make music with what you have. if you have access to tons of breaks and good equipment then thats great... but not everyone does. should they not make music then? and I think u also are maybe looking in the wrong place for good hip hop? the hip hop I listen to is not cookie cutter sound the same tired ass rap... there is a lot of lanes out there. respect each others lanes... other wise your hating for what?

  • @flux302 well uh gee if you have half of the BLACK male population come at ya with that wack ass 'LISTEN TO MY CD" bullshit everyday you see what the fuck iam talkin about! in every little corner of the ghetto some wack ass cat with his afforementioned rip off software talkin that "Iam gonna blow up" bullshit! and if you judging hip hop based off RAP then i aint tryin to hear you then kid! fyi name dropper! I got the muthafuckin machines SP12,SP1200,EMULATOR II HD,EPS 16+,ROLAND 707,CR-8000!

  • @ozulu45 sit behind a kit and sample those beats

  • @420jaymac sorry! bro! i got the real shit! SP1200 AND SP12 TURBO sittin in my house! and unlike most of you cyber producers of today! i have turntables! technics 1200's and the godfather of all technics! two 1100A'S!!

  • @ozulu45 .... 9th wonder uses fl studio..... nuff said.

no one care if you have the "real shit". people have other means of making beats. i understand if you want to retain the old school style, just dont boast about it, otherwise you're just as wack as the rap music on tv. my pops has the same stuff you have, and i use fl studio cause he wants me to follow my own path. (i still use drumloops and breaks time to time on it too.) so yeah... do what you do and god bless. :3

  • @RageOfLeoEX yarn! you tryin to make a name for yourself? talkin to me about what the fuck YOU do? ya pops has the same stuff big whoopie fuckin do! the fact you cyber idiots didnt work for ya shit is the problem! but hey your young and dont know any better! computer software can make any 2 year old be a beatmaker! but hey when i hear that every single crack baby nigga is a so-called producer on every block of the america and uses the 808 kick drum to death! theres no respect for that!

  • @ozulu45 no, just letting you know you sound pretty STUPID, but hey,it's the internet. there's also no respect for shit talking.... and you're doing it right now. beside's you're not even known enough in hip hop to say what sucks or not. i'm not trying to make a name for myself, i'm trying to tell you to stop failing in your judgement. no one cares what you think sucks. more childish than me,man.

btw, you're using youtube to troll. you're a cyber idiot too. XD

  • @RageOfLeoEX i speak the truth you dont like it, walk like a bitch and SHUT THE FUCK UP! you aint added a dam thing to this post other than saying redundant shit to me on here little girl! i gives a fuck if your on your period! my i suggest a maxipad?

  • @ozulu45 lol, i'm a guy for one, and two, you bitch more than me. but hey, i'll let your "opinion" stay that way, cause unless you can change history, you'll always fail.

children these days, just stfu go listen to some hip hop for once. :3

  • @ozulu45 I would consider myself to have a fairly good understanding of even the most basic English but I'm completely lost on what you're trying to put across. Stop arguing, put 'The Main Ingredient' on, and relax. Hip hop is about sharing, not arguing.

  • @bpw84 cyber twats like yourself usually dont understand shit other than watchin youtube or that coon channel called BET! you dont like it? then dont respond! it's a free country! or do you want me to put on a white sheet and burn a cross on your lawn? you understand that? how about you put on JIMMY CASTRO and listen to BERTHA BUTT BOOGIE!

  • @ozulu45 I wasn't trying to be aggressive towards you I was simply saying that I was struggling to understand what you were saying and that the essence of hip hop is not about arguing. (I really want to get into a sociological discussion about how people use what they can afford, how this changes over time and how this ultimately effects what we, the consumer, hear when we listen to music, but I'm not going to.) Go find a record, stick it on and chill, you're stressed out.

  • @bpw84 if i was stressed out? i would not reply! and that would be scary for everybody talkin shit on the other end! think about it? matter of fact go watch the SPECIAL ED video "THINK ABOUT IT"

  • i swear pete rock just freaked that shit at 1:35 - 1:46 that shit gives me chills......That's fucking hip hop.....damn i miss that feeling....

  • wow he's on point with those pads!!

  • anyone know2 what they used that beat for?

  • Rocked Adidas, but had no stripes!

I can tell back in high school, he had no fights!

    FUCKIN ILL LINE!

  • What is on 1:24 ????!!!!

  • pete rock & common = real hip hop!!!! that verbal murder 2!

  • Love that Fat Albert sample.

  • @MichaelDGarrett is that on 1:24 ?

  • @0:36..................what beat...so sick

  • How much I respect this man.

  • @ArgoBeats it turns out that he could be a real dick sometimes when he's off camera but when he's on camera, he just acts like a real good person

  • @CWROYAL8888 are you P Rock?

  • @ArgoBeats no! lol

  • @CWROYAL8888 eheh I hoped it was you. Have you met him?

  • @ArgoBeats my brother met him years ago while he was doing a tour in Florida

  • Genius!

  • You can't really compare the great producers. They all have their own sound - that's what makes them great. I love Pete Rock's style but Prince Paul is my favourite because he's just so left-field sometimes. That said, I'd never say Prince Paul was better than PR - just different. To each their own as long as you got knowledge of the art...

  • I figured I'd listen to a Kid Cudi song I was begged to listen to, but it started burning my ears... I came back to Pete Rock and now my ears are healed.

  • @MrCr80man

wow that comment you made was fucking retarded.

  • @MrCr80man shut the fuck up

  • @MrCr80man I dont get your point, kid cudi is fresh as hell.

  • The song Common is recording is Verbal Murder 2 I believe.

  • Who knows the record at 1:25 ?

  • do sp-1200 come with all drum samples which have ever been used by dudes who had them like dre, pete rock. or do you buy refills?

  • @TheSinghFIRE N'ah it comes with no sounds, you gotta sample em! The SP-12 has presets but the point of the SP is to sample your own drums

  • hip hop right here man. good shit

  • Man I wish I could spend a day wid Pete Rock... I'd like to see how he thinks creatively... I'd be a fucking Sponge!

  • Man I wish I could meat Mr P, mothafucka inspires the shit out of me.

  • @jayloubeatz Dude is mad humble in person.

  • @Cvasir I bet. Greats are always humble. What happens when I try to reach out to producers here in Houston, niggas straight diss me and ignor me. You're lucky my dude.

  • @jayloubeatz That sucks. It might sound strange, but I'm lucky I live in Sweden, because although legends don't travel here all too often, when they do they seem to feel too welcome to turn down autographs, pics, or just daps.

  • What song is common recording in this?

  • @michirican123 watch?v=xxfLGNDuZYA

  • @ XXAK57XX Me too!

  • common at the end lashing the lyrics miss the good old days....

  • he is god !

  • Pete....You're my Hero!!!!!!

  • pete is nice with the cuts the rhymes and especially the BEATS !

  • marley marl is really slept on by this generation.. his old school tracks were dope as fuck

  • @larry89

everybody nowadays is sleeping on the old shit! it's pathetic. to me, that's what really killed hiphop.

  • @sahbian They sleepin cause we as OGs Imean Niggas like Steve Stout Puff Stations like Hot97 & Power 105 iare now playin that whack ass New wave techno rap shit Because they all gettin upfront money from these companies .

So a cat like me gotta fight 3X as hard as some skinny jeans wearin faggot muthafucka tryin to sound like everybody else!

  • @Kingcire72x

i think hop hop needs a new actual sound based on melody, not fashion.

  • @sahbian You are 100% on that one .

If you notice beats were alot more melodic and somewhat stayed true to the integrity of the songs sampled back then and still we have that sound it's just pushed on the back burner for this techno style !

  • @larry89 He paved the way for everybody and he got everybody away from the Oberheim DMX TR-808 beats

  • If that ain't Hip Hop I don't know what it. WORD!

  • Dope! Golden era !!!! real artists so few left !

  • whats that song at 0:49?

  • rza in the dojo with him

  • He took that sample from Fat Albert. That's DOPE!

  • Amazing album..still in heavy rotation*~*

  • youtube.com/watch?v=Hfri6qcg5VI

going in crazy on the dopest beat on that soul survivor album!

  • Pete Rock on the 1200 while rockin WU-WEAR!! How hip hop is that????

  • @cratedigger89 word

  • that was the best technology back then... incredible still

  • Pete Rock made my fav beat of all time...T.R.O.Y.

  • Did he just sample a VHS recording of a commercial? That's some High Renaissance shit. Damn I hate to leave one of those comments but bring this shit baaaaack.

  • whats the song he spins @1:20

  • pete rock, truly the best ever besides premo rza,and dre

    alot cats say dilla,

but pete rock is a icon, his beats are the essence of

    headphones blasting,cold out side freestyles,

walking the block with a fresh pair of tims and proud of this music

  • @SuperProf25 Dilla R.I.P. , but I would never put him at number 1. For starters, too many of his beats sounded similar. I'd put Diamond, Showbiz, Lord Finesse, Pete rock, The Beatnuts, Cut Chemist, Timbaland and Thes One before him.

  • @bugstrut Diamond D, Showbiz, Large P, 45 King, Pete Rock, Premier, Marley Marl, Dre..best prod. of all time!!

  • excuse me but i think you forgot someone there J DILLA

  • @bugstrut I would. There's no way Timbaland comes close to Jay Dee, though I also think he isn't the best. The best must be DJ Premier or RZA for me personally, with Pete Rock slightly behind them or on par. Rza did Wu Tang albums over and over again, was creative and was a master at sampling (though not as good as Premier), his sound was different. You didn't know what to expect of him, from Premier you did know. He uses the same pattern over and over again, so what? Premier = The Essence

  • Love to see common sense at the end there!

  • yes a true beat maker , not like these new school faggots with their computers like kanye;s faggot ass.

  • @druha10304 kayne started out on an mpc2000 and an asr10 search for the videos

  • @druha10304 Kanye still uses a MPC 2000XL and a 808, just saying. Your comment is false information.

  • @iamconor fuck kanye

  • @LaLaGrunge You have to admit some of his beats are dope, I hate the whole bling ego sunglasses thing he does though

  • @iamconor I agree. Kanye's best productions were from 1999-2006. After that, he became more pop/synth and was a benefactor in how sample-empty most mainstream rap is now. It may not be totally empty but the sampling has become less creative over the years. No one really digs anymore.

That and his arrogant personality thinking he's god's gift to music. Preemo, Dr. Dre, Ski, Pete Rock, Alchemist aren't outspoken wimp bitches like that yet still make better music than Kanye. Boom Bap!

  • @LaLaGrunge Ew I hate Dre at the moment, Alchemist and 9th wonder are my favorite producers

  • @LaLaGrunge shut that whack shit up. you know nothing about music, because you did you would know every one sample no matter what genre of music your from. rather it is playing keys from another song to taking a phase from a old record. it all sampling in the end. get your mind right and stop hatin on the next man.

  • @iamconor yh but for him its the 'look'

  • @iamconor kanye uses 909

  • @Shaghasi925 probably I dont know, but he most def uses 2kxl and 808

  • @druha10304 did you know that pete rock was involved in making mbdtf and he said it was one of the best rap albums he's heard in years?

    yeah, probably not.

  • this is the real way making of hiphop not sittin at a computer all day with a mouse in one hand and your dick in your other....Get it thru ya fuckin head......Software is not the same!!!

  • @boomtomb listen to sun shower beat movie by Darren Paul. then guess what he used to make it after listening to it.

  • Pete Rock will always be my favorite producer. Said it before and i'll say it again, he's a producer's producer.

  • Pete Rock is the man!

  • kanye who?looool.

  • How could Young Jeezy Call his album the Soul Survivor when Pete Rock Established that he is the number #1 SOUL SURVIVOR

  • I have to admit. Pete literally made me get the SP1200. I owned about 10 of them shits. Made a lot of money with them too. Salute Pete Rock!!!!!

  • @Godsuhn dilla was a sp1200 man too right?

  • @siloe103 dont know what J Dilla used. MPC I think. The MPC3000 was a monster too. The series still is, MPC2500, MPC4000.

  • common shitted on that beat

  • this is real hip hop!!!

  • the song is called verbal murder

  • 0:21 whats that beat dont think ive heard that one ha it sounds dope

  • @WaxMastaCM song is called "Da two" on soul survivor

  • Dude at 2:30 on the couch straight loungin.

  • Whats THE name of the song at 1:43 ???

  • I want some Wu-Wear so badly, that shirt is as fly as the beat is. I'm gonna get a 1200 one of these days

  • That is insightful and inspiring. Listen for the right kind of records. Pete Rock is a blessing for hip hop music!

  • whatsa the name of the beat at 1:40

  • what i would to smoke sum shit and be in that studio!!!!!!!!

  • pete rock sure knows how to make the most hottest beats just like dilla did when he was here

  • this man is a genious, the greatest producer of all time
