  • the oc-2 is so much better

  • Can you get a higher octave or just that bass note?

  • Did that one dude use this thing for "Ill Be Watching You" back in the 80's? Thought I heard it in that distortion for a sec.

  • also it sounds like total shit

  • this pedal is a piece of shit! i tried one at guitar center...the octave stops working around the 12th fret

  • I started watching this video hoping for a good review... But then I saw Jason Spencer...

  • shit

    ihate him

  • shit

  • CKY is awesome!!!!

  • Booooring...

  • Anyone demo'ing guitar gear (or doing a guitar lesson, etc.) should play it first before talking about it.

  • Nice. So do you have to tune your strings for this pedal for like half step down and all or like drop d or c? I'm really leaning towards this pedal. I was for the Morpheus Droptune pedal at first but I'm not too sure anymore about that one. The Boss pedal seems more easier to work with.

  • my god STOP FUCKING SWALLOWING

  • If u guys are looking for octave whammy pedals look up the ps-6 harmonist

  • The intro to When Doves Cry at 2:10.

  • Why would you ever use the octave-effect without the Poly-effect?

I mean, it seems to me, when I use it on bass, that using it without the poly-effect just adds the risk of getting a muddy sound if I miss a string.

  • I'm a bassist. I want a Fender Bass VI, but I can't afford one and I had hoped that I could play a Strat and use one of these to get close to the 6-string bass sound, but I can't-or I haven't found the right setting yet. If anyone has, any tips on how to get away from the synth and guitar sounds and achieve a bass sound?

    Cheers.

  • the low octave sounds like shit

  • Damn. When I saw the pedal's name I was hoping that it would let me essentially lower the tuning of the guitar without physically doing so (tuning in drop C, for example, and letting the pedal take me a few half steps lower).

  • @haltrman93 That would be the Morpheus Drop Tune. Takes you down 2 steps in half step increments, plus it has an octave lower and an octaver. Pretty nice.

  • @thamorse Excellent. Thanks for the info, man.

  • can this thing make a sound like whammy pedal does? if it does, how does it work?

  • Can this pedal handle distortion and multiple notes played at once?

  • @skate4free7 Why souldn't you? Sure you can.

  • @pizzachickenyeah I've tried the Digitech Whammy and it can barely handle more than 3 notes played at once, it sounds as if the rings like out of tune kinda and has slight tremelo sound to it which isn't really a good sound.

  • Should crank out some CKY on this beast

  • i'm trying to get the "jack white sound", would this help?

    Thanks

  • freaking awesome playing

  • This guy used to rock for Jesus, but then sold his soul for 20 boss pedals, and a few thousand hits on his videos.

  • @tombuttner LOL

  • sounds like compressed shitty old video game music

  • @WorldMusicSupply Will you be getting the new 2011 ESP guitars soon? More specifically the MS-1?

  • Quit knockin' the guy at least he's tryin'.

  • can this make the guitar higher as well? sorry if it was answered in the video, i only scanned it. plz answer anyway someone.

  • @RJrules64 So you are begging for an answer that might be in the short video above, how busy can you be?

  • @RJrules64 if you can't spend four minutes to decide if you want to buy a piece of equipment then you deserve to be uninformed and have a piece of shit.

  • because of this thing bass players are left unemployed

  • is this pedal better or is the micro pog better?

  • with the direct out it sounds like a gameboy hahaha

  • wait i didnt hear octave up

  • jason spencer is cool

  • so can you make a guitar sound like a bass like this or is there another way and do you connect the peddal thing to the amp (im new to this and need help cause im a singer but a band needs me to play guitar and bass)

  • @mgmga1 you can use octave pedals to make guitars sounds rather bassy. listen to seven nation army by white stripes lol. pedal goes into the amp separately i believe.

  • @AmandoRambo

Seven Nation Army is just a Whammy set one octave down.

  • i wanna hear blue orchid!!!!

  • @skater247247 Same here!

  • Yes, nightmare by avenged sevenfold has 1 octave up or so I think :p

  • @xGuitarStianx Nah Zachy V. plays that first riff on one octave. that Synyster Gates plays the harmony one octave up higher on the neck. no pedal there

  • @Anitrop Nope, just at the recording. Because you actually need 3 guitars on the song. Thats why Syn has installed a Sustainiac Stealth Pro in the neck on his guitar. To play the song alone while Zacky plays the power chords.

  • @xGuitarStianx Oh, i was looking at how (i think) they play it live, with Syn and Zach playing the guitar harmony bit while Johnny on bass stands in for the cords. For the record version, i thought syn overdubbed a guitar. not sure though, only what i can glean from listening and from looking at free online tabs :P

  • I didn'y get how poly works. Cool pedal by the way.

  • WorldMusicSupply needs new employees. Between "Whammy" and Jason Spencer, they've got a shit set of people reviewing products.

  • this or the electro harmonix octave multiplexer

  • Wow who drops octaves on bass

  • @nonvlog Bassists.

  • Does this pedal have true bypass?

  • @TheHippiebassplayer no, none of the boss pedals do because they have electronical switches no the clicky sort

  • Can you get higher octaves on this or just lower ?

  • @LoveBuzz3

    Just lower

  • AHHHH THE BROWN NOISE!

  • @DeathToEmerica In general it is going to create tones that are octaves of the notes you play through it. An octave is essentially the same note with either double or half the frequency so either higher or lower. I'm not sure if this pedal does higher octaves I think it just gives you the lower ones and some distortion on top of that.

  • all i can say is. CKY CKY CKY!

  • i feel sorry for these guys, via the miracle that is th internet there reviewing stuff to save us from buying a load of old crap, which we ve probaly all done, and all people can do is slag the guys off, it must be diffecult getting in front of the camera, come on guys, give him a break

  • @strabbs1 i see we have a whiteknight here

  • @strabbs1 I agree.

  • @strabbs1 they suck ass at reviewing it doesn't even help

  • This pedal sounds pretty cool actually! Jason Spencer rocks!

  • 2:07 CKY much?

  • i still dont noe how dis pedal works..

  • boss is shite except for DS1 and 2 pedals

  • @Trajanus1000 Boss is the industrial standard, correct stuff for correct price but you won't get REAL high-end effects from Boss. Although I have ti say my AC-3 kicks asses like hell ^^.

  • @Trajanus1000 dd-7

  • i NEED this pedal. i dnt want it, i NEED it.

  • digitech whamy ftw.

  • if your looking for a cheap but great octaver pedal search-testing my behringer multifx octaver

  • tom morello loved to use an octave pedal

  • :O...you can get some Low notes , combine them with a heavy Distortion like Metalzone mt2 pedal..and you have Brutal Death metal sound! AWESOME!

  • I like, I like.

  • can u use a octave pedal in Metal music?

  • @SEVIL999 I don't think many metal bands use this sort of thing but i don't see why you couldn't... : )

  • @jonnyfrocks cky does and it sounds SOOO AWESOME

  • yup look at cky

  • @SEVIL999 Listen to CKY, best example of octave metal - the older the album the better. Some songs are more saturated in this effect than others

  • @SEVIL999 thats what i'm wondering,too

  • @SEVIL999 No, it's against the law.

  • @SEVIL999 its called cky

  • @SEVIL999

Yep it's fully compatible with metal

  • @SEVIL999 Think about it this way: You can use anything in any kind of music. Creativity ftw. :D

  • @SEVIL999 no, the law forbides

  • @SEVIL999 i think its aganist the code

  • @SEVIL999 You can use anything you want at anytime, in any music. There are no rules dude. Just be creative and see for yourself. Not trying to sound like a jerk, just trying to help.

  • @SEVIL999 ever heard of pantera's cemetary gates?

  • @SEVIL999 yarp

  • @SEVIL999 Hell yeah

  • @SEVIL999 OFC U ever heard of CKY? Go listen to 96 quiet bitter beings and listen how it´s like;D sorry for being a bit late to answer;/

  • @SEVIL999 wouldn't suggest it for a thrash riff, it'll sound messy, but if you're doing a solo should fit nicely

  • @SEVIL999 hear Whiskey In the Jar by Metallica , Lead intro Played with Octaver

  • @SEVIL999 The answer must be obvious...

  • @SEVIL999 Actually. Nothing works with metall.

  • @SEVIL999 yes but most metal guitarists are dumbasses and aren't creative i use one

  • @SEVIL999 Listen To CKY Man its good shit

  • @SEVIL999 that's where it sounds best, dude!

  • I'm looking for a pedal that i can basically play higher octaves with, e.g. if my guitar doesnt have enough frets to play higher notes, or i just want to play licks on the d string and make it sound like its on the b/e string, is this the right pedal? he doesnt seem really show the higher octaves very much.

  • @OllieOrange123 Well, this octave only works downwards. All you get is one or two octaves BELOW. For that you'd be better off trying EHX's POG line

  • i would just use this to play local h stuff

  • im a bass player and i think this would be the choice to have pedal wise with a fretless to get pino palladino's sound from the 80s...im gonna get me one next paycheck

  • @sprintbass its the thing that Ive been looking for. As a bass player in a three piece, where the guitar is always clean, and my job is to fill the sound and make it more agressive. I have a few effects pedals like the ODB3 and Big Muff but The OC 3 changed everything. It makes everything darker and malevolent.

  • @Hasselnorris the last three words are the most important.

  • too expansiv though

  • would anyone recomend that i purchase or do not purchase this pedal? because i allready have a D2 Boss distortion pedal, i like boss' pedals and i think this would be a cool one to have. either this or the acoustic simuator. please reply, thanks

  • personally i think this sounds to digital

  • it does sound more electronic than the OC-2, in the video anyway.

  • true but this is not a good demo for what it sounds like live. Tim Mahoney of 311 uses this pedal tons and one of the best examples of its greatness is the song "Homebrew" check it out and see what i mean

  • It depends on what you need. If you have riffs you've written where you need an acoustic simulation live, and you don't want to have to switch to an acoustic guitar, then I'd go with that. But this pedal is much more versatile and fun to use than an acoustic simulator in my opinion.

  • k that makes sense. im prolly gonna get this pedal instead or save up for a stetsbar

  • I like this pedal for the tone I can get when playing Joe Satriani type solos. Anyone who uses this pedal to make their guitar sound like a bass is a retard Lol

  • no there not? there aloud to do what ever they want.

  • THANK YOU for being open-minded! I mess w/ gear for fun. I'll put a wah between a mic and a crash cymbal into my 16-track just to be an idiot, who cares

  • deep purple for the win ;D

  • i watched this at W W W . TV-Vide . NET . Try it 5 minutes and than fill a free survey to watch 24hours

  • THIS IS SO CKY! :D I think ima buy one of these :)

    And another boss pedal :)

  • I love this pedal :D Awesome sound!

  • hi, i currently have no pedals and i was wondering if this chain would sound good on my marshall amp:

    Boss DS-1>OC-3

i play a lot of rock music and some metal.

    thanks

  • he has proably been playing for a long ass time good child

  • how long does it take to learn how to play that good?

  • not long if you practise much

  • Nice guitar man, i have the same one. :)

  • holy sweet distortion...

  • Comment removed

  • Good mix depending on your amp- OC3 + Big Muff Pi = "A tone as heavy as Osmium"

  • both happen to be on my christmas list. so damn excited

  • i just got the danelectro chilli dog octave and its much nicer than this, sounds warmer and iam told its totaly analog. i paid £35 and love it for single line jazzy blues

  • agreed

  • Hello Peoples,

I'm considering getting an octave shifting pedal, and I was wondering:

How do you think the Behringer UO100 compares to the Boss OC pedals?

    Cheers

  • The Behringer might be as good or even better than the Boss pedal at first, but eventually, it just falls apart. Behringer makes good equipment, but it doesn't last long. So I recommend getting a Boss just because they have good sounds and quality construction.

  • This is what an octave pedal sounds like? Oh. I'll just get a bass then. This sounds too 'fake' IMO. You can't emulate heavier gauge base strings I guess.

  • the last thing they should be used for is trying to make your guitar sound like a bass!

  • ders no doubt dat playing guitar is better dan bass because of octave pedals

  • este pedal tambie sirve para bajo?? si es que sirve como suena, bien o mal?

  • it has to input slots: one for guitar and one for bass

  • Comment removed

  • man i hate this guy. trying to watch it but man this guys is...well, I hate him

  • Yeah, I know! he just annoys me so much!

  • agree

  • Nice demo. I don't think I'd ever buy it though as it makes the tone too processed sounding for me.

  • this or mxr blue box?

  • Depends what you want. Do you want something wild and a bit random (Blue Box or Pollyanna), or do you want a straight octave (OC3)?

  • well, the blue box is alot cheaper, and crazier, but if your just looking for a bass sound, get this.

  • This, much more controll :)

  • blue box is more fun to play around with in my opinion

  • me too. but these vids brought me to me decisions XD

  • YOU SPEAK MUCH TRUTH.

  • he plays chord-scale-chord-scale. like gearfail. he changes amps 24/7, so no tonal differences

  • jason spencer thinks hes tough!

  • whats the point..

  • just baught one i fuckin love it especially the synth sounds

  • what about this...SUPER OCTAVE PEDAL GLX

  • Oh lord.... it's the lip-smacking dude...

  • very helpful . . .

  • I thought the Octave pedal plays 3rd, 5th, or Octaves...

  • look for ps-5

  • I don't understand why the reviewer didn't showcase any of the polyphonics that the pedal is built for. Play an arpeggio, the pedal makes them sound amazing when set to the poly setting.

  • this pedal was meant for cky

  • Thats what I was thinking.

  • I HATW the way this guy's set up sounds.

  • Thanks for the demo.

I'm using the OC-3 with a loop sampler and acoustic guitar. I use the OC-3 to add a bass part to my loop. Your demo was helpful.

  • it doesn't work with chords. i have the pedal, and it just kind of freaks out when you play a chord.

  • even if you set it to polyphonic mode!?

  • Nope, just got one the other day, on poly mode it plays chords well. Though you can still get some nice soundingish chords in the other modes, though to get a nice power chord you have to mute the A string on an E power chord, or the D on an A power chord.

  • Thx for clarifying, I dont own one, but that's what I thought.

  • nice pedal but this guys mouth sounds are grossing me out

  • imagine this with a bass

  • you couldnt hear it

  • you can, it sounds great

  • hey i am starting a band and i wanna no wat boss pedals should i use my band is kinda like an ALL TIME LOW/FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS type of band

  • ds-1 and a chorus should probs do it

  • what does it actually do?im not really sure abt octave peds lol.does is allow you to play for example a drop b if you're tuned to drop d or c or something?
