  • OMG... this is amazing..... if anyone here has studied and performed any of these works, and if anyone here can really play the violin, I would be more careful on my choice of words when taking any chance if any at all, to have the courage to point a finger at Mrs. Hahn violin playing at all... what a shame... really. She is an amazing been of amazing genius...

  • DAMN @ 2:48 - Not many can pull that off! Amazing

  • She plays it so organically as if she had written it!

  • The intonation and articulation are perfect. .amazing

  • 11!!

  • You should take a look to Kavakos´s version of this sonata, that is inspiration and music!!!!!!!

  • Yes! where is the character?! The beginning is like a military drum. it should be more solemn!.. but ok.. perfect

  • greatttt phrasing

  • having perfect pitch, hilary hahn's version of this sonata is the only one in which I do not cringe at least once during the whole performance. That being said, it isn't the most virtuostic version out there, but her impossibly perfect intonation is enough for me.

  • @tomah92 no question she is an amazing violinist. however like everybodyelse she is NOT perfect. now since you have perfect pitch at 2:29 something sounds funny in chord, at 2:49 the end of scale it is out of tune, at 3:04 she plays a minor instead a major chord.

As far as musicality everything she plays sounds the same either Bach Bartok Prokofiev Mozar or ysaye the color in the sound is the same. Well I guess that's her individuality and i respect that.

  • @gimaru1 since you mentioned it, at 5:39 she plays a g natural instead of the g sharp. and i think it is at 3:06 that she plays a minor instead a supposedly major chord. but this is of course already beyond professional level.

  • @escapiststupor and 2:11, third 16th note of that measure should be f and d flat instead of d natural

  • @tomah92 Nonetheless again she is one of my favourites violinists, but my point is that she is not Ms. Perfection

  • @gimaru1 Agreed, no one is perfect. However, Hahn is closer to perfect than anyone I've heard.

  • @caitlinp99 check out Nancy Zhou; technically she plays this piece more precise than Hahn, and Zhou's ability to shape the musical intensity by employing rubato/glissando/a sudden suspense in tempo at certain paragraphs; I agree with gimaru1, Hahn is rather 'musically consistent' and this (in my eye) rather hinders the so called stylistic performance.

  • woooooooooooooooooooow!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whoever voted thumb down.

you are not good enough to listen to this.

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for posting this video !!!!!!!!! :)))

I was hoping that I could find her version of this very sonata!!!!

  • the greatest violinist since Heifetz

  • COMPLETEMENT GENIAL!!!

  • technically impressive.. but ysaye is deeper than just the notes.

  • @gnatural that's not "just the notes" all the structure is clear and you can understand every voice of all the complex "contrepoint".

But I agree there is no Ysaÿe colour or sound... which makes the magic sense of this music.

  • omg amazing

  • Absolutely HILARY ! ! !

  • I think she gets a lot of criticism because her facial expressions are not ridiculously stupid like other famous violinists. Live performances of Hilary are very emotionally fulfilling and musically satisfying.

  • @brod19841126 emotionally fulfilokng and ..th ..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........

  • Very impressive playing. But these sonatas (maybe except the third) are more set of technical exercises than music

  • LMAO

  • @violinoamore you must be a violist...

  • stop wasting all our time -- you don't know anything... It's obvious.

  • It's not obvious that I don't know anything--I think it's obvious that I am an artist, know what is possible from this piece musically and technically, have listened to this, and based upon my experience and knowledge, have expressed an opinion which stands on its merits-- you idiot.

  • "listen" whereas I've played this sonata and four of the other Ysaye Sonatas. There is a big difference there. See where my merit lies? A listener versus people who actually play? Listening is not an art -- thus you are not an artist. So shut the eff up about Hilary Hahn and stop making it seem like you're sooo much better than her because you "listen."

  • Hey, don't write me during that time of the month--you get hysterical and don't make any sense. I would love to hear your interpretation of five of the six sonatas...I could add it to my tape of beauty pageant violin solos for my next party.

  • @w8sted1 "Party of One, Douche Bag" Oh hey, your table is ready. Have fun!

  • @cageynerd OK-if you just want to straight-ahead trade insults, that's cool with me-so if you are male (doubtful) then you are a retarded motherfucker, if female, then you are a retarded diseased dirty-kneed street whore who gives 5 dollar deep throat mouth -vibrato blowjobs to buy crack while playing Hilary Hahhn CD's to make your johns fall asleep so you can steal their money, bitch...

  • HAH she actually played the down bow staccato! That was so badass.

  • A cold fish---if you think this is great, you don't really understand classical music, and what is possible with some imagination and expression of emotiion. She needs to grow up , but it won't happen because she is sheltered, so enjoy her perfect double stops , if that is what you're into..

  • I think you just proved that you don't understand classical music. EVERYTHING has been done... EVERYTHING -- even Ysaye 6 -- I think I've seen like 35 to 40 different performances but you don't know what is possible with some perfect technique and inward expression -- especially of thought! You live in such a sheltered existence. I hope you get out of this rut because dying without knowing is really a terrible way to go -- esp. if you profess to have an inner understanding of music. God help

  • I have WORKED with her on several occasions, and it is always a well-planned, biookish version of everything. The ysaye demands more...And ,by the way, there is no GOD, and dying without knowing that is a terrible ironic way to go.

  • UMM... Do you play Ysaye? Do you play concertos? Do you even play violin? Do you think this is not true for a lot of musicians? If you asked any of them if they can play the way they practiced it, I'm sure ALL of them would say yes... WTF do you think you're talking about? It's the nature of performance. Yeah, and it's ironic that you're 70 and I talk about death...

  • Oh and to let you know, MANY people have WORKED with her and feel totally differently.

  • I'm surprised you like her so much--you two are so different--she is austere, cold like ice, calculating, and you are a hysterical nerd...Dog help..

  • Calling me hysterical at your age? When we have aging ailments that explain your ignorant and senile reaction to people?

  • OK young nerd, who thinks H Hahn is Dog's gift to music--write me back when you graduate from middle school.

  • oh jeebus just die already lying old fart... stop wasting EVERYONE's time...

  • @ w8sted1... close your eyes and listen... music is not about the body and it's expressions, it's about the soul. her playing isn't cold at all...her expressions are though. but even an eight year old can understand music beyond facial expressions... i guess it's true... only the visually blind can really appreciate true music.

  • yes... shifts can vary, and yes vibrato can vary too; however, you must also be able to play in time, after all, that is what the time signature and bars are for... classical musicians have to play strictly to the sheet music... and do you know why... because a musician has to translate exactly what the composer has written. there is no sign is classical music that says "hold this note for more or less than 2 beats..." .

  • @allannalla420 REALLY? wow, how insightful...

  • @allannalla420 you must get some pretty good shit

  • She plays it the way she plays it. "... austere, cold like ice, calculating..." The same could be said of Jascha Heifetz, and in fact was said many times. And yet, he was actually pretty good, you know?

  • @w8sted1 of course there is a God, but you try very hard to suppress the truth.

  • @gnatural Prove it! Prove "the truth " to me--only children and retards believe fairy tales are real...

  • wow... how so many performances witnessed?

  • @cageynerd I confess i just love this post--"EVERYTHING has been done!!!! EVERYTHING, YOU HEAR ME !!!!!!!!!!!!?????? don't know what it means, but love it...

  • Pra mim a melhor violinista mulher e uma das melhores no instrumento atualmente, junto a Sarah Chang Maxim vengerov Joshua Bell

  • He's a walking recording... Everything's perfect!!.. I saw the same recital monts ago and was the same!!... Bravooo!!

  • if you yawn, thats not your fault, need much more experience in classical music, she keeps order by being a little bit cold, thats all otherwise it would be less clean...

  • @CIP73651 YES-let's all be cold so we can be clean....

  • It's extremely good!!!~OoO

  • She is the best violin player in the world...right now!!!

  • @baieun In the dark nether-world of my asshole...

  • holy crap. I don't even understand how its possible to play this piece like this.... This performance completely redefines what I thought was possible with this sonata...

  • I totally agree I thought exactly the same thing. Hilary Hahn has, I think, redefined what I thought was possible with the instrument.

  • @strad3411 AGREED--yes it's now possible for the violin to be used a s a cure for insomnia--

  • @evoandy Are you saying then that this performance is CRAP, albeit of a holy nature? I somewhat agree...

  • @w8sted1

no... there is nothing about this performance that is crap....

  • @w8sted1

no... there is nothing about this performance that is crap....

  • ...to be exact...not just on youtube..LOL

  • best on youtube...BRAVO

  • In the world. and years to come.

  • the crowd is brain dead --- best live performance I've ever heard of Solo 6.

  • that was just...so amazing!! amazingly amazing!!:)

  • I don't even know what to say. I'm a huge fan of Hahn but this video is simply incredible. I can't wait until she records the Ysaye sonatas because I really think that recording will be an absolute treasure for many, many years to come. It's hard to appreciate just how difficult this work reeeally is without the music but either way, this is an achievement I'm not sure can be surpassed. This truly is as inspirational a performance as I've ever seen. Bravo Hilary.

  • FUCKING REDIC.... that's all I have to say.

  • She's even more expressive than she was before...I love Hilary Hahn's interpretation and her perfection!!

  • and from about 5:30 on it's out of this world!

There are a few musicians who can transcend and Hilary is surely one of them.

How lucky we are to be sharing this time and space with her.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
