  • Blues is Blues, be it Sonny Boy Williamson, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Howliln' Wolf, Jimmy Cotton, Joe Seneca (yes, I know, but he's still one of the greats, and there are many who wouldn't be where they are now without him) . . . Let's just salute the great music that is The Blues, shall we?

  • When i saw "Cadillac Records" i put a face in a lot of legendary songs

  • I don't think that's Memphis Slim playing the piano. I put my money on Otis Spann.

  • Of course that's Otis Span on Piano

  • the coolest.

  • Good lord! Where did you find this? This is a gem, a piece of history, it should be on a constant loop in the Smithsonian. This is what God's rec room looks like, right now.

  • Say Muddy, don't hate at 1:59 cause Sonny got it going on and you don't want nothing taking away from your ego. Imagine a harp sitting down taking it away from slick hairback lead singer. Man! wish I was there. hahahahaha

  • @esome11 hahaha so true man sonny boy stealin his precious limelight

Thank you for sharing this vid.

  • How many white clods in that audience even know what a mojo is????

  • @8dakota6 The"White Clods" as you put it put Muddy on the map by appreciating him and his fellow black bluesman! Thank pasty white English pommies fro rescuing The Blues as they were ate up with the old guard black blues artists and owe their successes in their own bands being influenced by people like Muddy!

  • @8dakota6 These guys and John Lee Hooker etc, were very small time in the US,they came to the UK they were superstars and went back to the US as superstars,so don`t be hating the "white clod`s".

  • @rwnfrd Us "Whiteclod`s" love this groove..yeah baby!!

  • @8dakota6 i would say plenty as we dug deeper than the Yanks did to gain a greater understanding especially earlier on. You might want to consider who helped Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Little Walter, Chuck Berry early in their careers - some "white clod" by the name of Leonard Chess.

  • Wow nice quality video

  • The audience is all white and the cool cats are wearing shades.

  • Muddy came out the like a straight pimp smooth n slick

  • Amazing!!!!! xxxx

  • Kind greetings from Canada, and thank you for posting this wonderful tune by two such gifted musical artists!

  • Muddy smooooomth

  • willie dixon is awsome

  • Isn´t that Willie Dixon at the bass?

  • @joseluisfernandez58 Yes, and Otis Spann on piano. The title should be changed to include these two giants!

  • @tibyv8 Right!! What a band!!

  • Muddy used a lot of conkaline in that hair. It doesn't get any better than this.

  • Murray's wave grease! Muddy wore it well, and the performance almost makes you forget his hair was slicked back!

  • Is that Matt "Guitar" Murphy on guitar? Kept waiting for a closeup, but the camera never hit him

  • @HellEachWay I do believe that you are correct.

  • @HellEachWay i'm pretty sure it's him, it looks like the same set from another Matt Murphy video.

  • i dig his hair

  • It kinda sucks that Little Walter died before the blues revival, we would have had a crap load of footage of him. If Muddy or Wolf died before the revival, we probably would know as much about them as we do about Little Walter.

  • 1:57 Muddy cringe's as Sonny tries to figure out where he is.

  • 3:08 Best part :D

  • 29 people don't got their Mojo workin...what a drag!!!

  • クール cool !!

  • Simple stuff that anyone could do but only Muddy can! This is can't sit still music.on

  • I hate these comments, but 29 people need to fix their mojos.

  • Amazing, perfect, great, wonderful...

Words can not describe how these guys sing ...

  • just 2 smooth 4 words

  • Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Willie Dixon, Otis Spahn, Matt Guitar Murphy and not sure on the drummer (Fred Below?). No way Sonny Boy hit a bad note you need your ears cleaned.

  • I imagine the audience would be blushing intensly if the new what a Mojo was.

  • bass isnt willie dixon right?

  • @DanFindling I think it is. Looks and sounds like him but can't say for sure.

  • @DanFindling Thats what I thought. Bet it's him

  • @DanFindling It sure is Willie Dixon alright!

  • @dangerguss1 yeah man you're right. The guy on bass was the legend dixon

  • This is First class!!!! Rip Muddy and Sonny, we are gonna jam someday!!

  • Sonny Boy did not hit any wrong notes at all!!!! U just cant get the rhythm!!!

  • Sonny Boy is the man!

  • First class stuff.

  • :DDDDDD what a cool ending :DDD

  • Outstanding!

  • The first time I heard Muddy Waters do "got my mojo working' was on the albumn "Fathers & Sons' which was recorded live at the Chicago Blues festival. Great version of the song.

  • The first time I heard Muddy Waters do "got my mojo working' was on the album "Fathers & Sons' which was recorded live at the Chicago Blues festival. Great version of the song.

  • Wow! Muddy, Sonny Boy II, (Rice Miller), Willie Dixon. Priceless. Thanks for posting this video.

  • Willie Dixon Bass - PERFECT

  • i adore what kind of blues was in those days. Muddy or Sonny had very difficult life they worked very hard but always looked like real gentlemen - this tie, hairstyle, suit everything is so glamorous & high-stylish! i respect those guys for being real artist. nowadays blues is a shit & everyone looks on the stage like a dirty farmer.

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • thats sonny boy...look and listen

  • Definitely Rice Miller, John Lee Williamson was murdered in 1948, and this footage is obviously newer than that.

  • First, that's Sonny Boy II. Secondly he is about the best harp player I've ever heard -- fantastic sense of cool, hip, often wacky lyrics. Yes, Willie Dixon is there. And can anybody doubt it's a cool-underplayed Muddy? Great fun, fine blues.

  • damn good

  • sonny I died in 1948

  • i think thats sonny boy Williamson the first, not II

  • @horbergaren

No its Sonny Boy Williamson II, my favourite. I’d recognise him from a glimpse of his face, a word from a song, or a whiff from his harmonica

  • @horbergaren No man-Sonny Boy no.1 died in 1948-this is Rice Miller known as Sonny Boy no.2.

He's drunk as a skunk here.

  • How could you NOT like this?! Seriously, just go away YOU'RE LAME.

  • simply awesome

  • in the bass it's willie dixon ?

  • For everybody theorizing about the population of the audience, NEWSFLASH! : This video/DVD is of a 1963 show done in Germany. In case you didn't know, they have ALOT of white people there!

As far as the show itself goes, absolute dynamite! The cast included Otis Spann, Sonny Boy Williamson, Matt "guitar" Murphy, Willy Dixon, "Big" Bill Broonzy, and a few others. PBS might have the DVD for sale. Trust me. If you can find it, buy it.

  • @ckaski I can see the audience.

  • Was this event really a festival,or just some kind of a documentary film about blues?

  • The basic blues audience was almost entirely white by this time. A lot of these black bluesmen had to be wondering where the hell the black audience scampered off to. I'm still wondering.

  • @Kirke182 hola... you must real young, the answer to your ? is call segregation, discrimination. this events probably took place about '59, '60, '61.

civil rights movement was taking place about then. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was supposed to end segregation. black performers would perform for black audiences in "their own" clubs, some whites would attend, but when blacks attended white's clubs, they were made uncomfortable.

  • @soulergy1soulrgy1 No, I'm not young at all. I was alive when this was recorded. Segregation had nothing to do with why the blues audience turned white. By 1964, the year of the blues revival, the audience was virtually all white, folk music lefties. There were some blacks involved such as Richard Wright but only because he was in the communist party. Blacks started rejecting blues--period. Most of them are still doing it.

  • @Kirke182 your ? was, y is the audience mostly white. i gave the answer that i firmly believe to be truth. i had many black friends, when we would go out, we would go to black clubs and yes, they would play the blues and other music. just because a person is black does not have to like or be crazy about the blues. i lived in the NW and deep S i have had 1st hand experience with discrimination, i am a 68 years young mexican/american.

yes, racism did existed and still does...

  • @soulergy1soulrgy1 Your answer, when intelligible, is all over the place to the point where you are saying yes, no and maybe simultaneously. Try taking one position and sticking with it.

  • @Kirke182 my position is, that the time we are talking about, the black audience were not present because most of the white people would not welcome them... yet do they were as you said, i.e. white, folk music lefties. unfortunately most people that accepted blacks would not speak up for human rights, a few did, yes indeed, but look at films of the selma to montgomery march, very few white people present. please do not take it personal, i think you are a nice man, i seen your video. have fun...

  • mudy watres sonny boy halalalla the maestro of blues

  • WOW this is SOOOO GREAT!!!!!! Some of the best of the time!!!! PIONEERS!!!

  • Could someone tell the cameraman where sonny boy is sitting

  • Comment removed

  • Wow

  • You can't beat Muddy + Sonny Boy

29 people will go to hell!!!

  • Must of being great in clubs at that time! It was good music then and great music now! That says something!

  • I'm a hardcore techno fiend but I have to admit, I miss music being like this, ya know awesome and soulfull...

  • @WoodlandRavah seriously this is back when people still had class.

  • what's mojo in french

  • @theogogo mojo

  • @theogogo use urbandictionary for a better understanding

  • .... AWESOME... such a smooth cool as voice..

  • HOLY SHIT ! !!!! didn't knew sonny made this song with them o_O that fucking pure gold to my eyes :°-)

  • i love sonny boy banzai

  • Think wates and williamson had some beef between them. Or it appears that williamson just didn't give a shit and waters did. He shoots him a bad look around 1:00 and then again around 2:00. Makes waters look like somewhat of prick to be honest.

  • o ator de ''cadillac records'' parece mesmo com ele!!

  • Willie Dixon on bass? they's a lotta mojo working on this one

  • Be careful what you leave as a comment: Muddy's Mojo is still working from beyond his Voodoo grave!

  • thanks

  • what is "mojo"?

  • @estderoma Watch 10 videos from the blues era, then watch 2 modern videos (that's all it'll take), that should get you on the right path. Mojo can't be defined, you have to feel it.

  • lay it on him one time! love it! fabulous!!

  • love it when muddy shoots sonny boy a stare at 1.04 when he plays a loud note

  • best version of mojo ever!!

  • i f memory serves me correctly, tho i may be wrong but i believe that is actually Memphis Slim on piano and not Otis Spannas was previously stated...

  • That is Willie Dixon on bass and Otis Spann on piano. You don't get better than that in a blues band. Willie was the writer and talent behind many Chess recordings, and Otis Spann is probably THE blues piano player for the ages. I'm sure Muddy would say so, even though Pinetop Perkins was with his band much longer, later on. You guys shouldn't be so hard on Sonny Boy II. He's one of the ultimate blues harp players of all time, along with Little Walter Jacobs & Big Walter Horton.

  • it's a very mojo working

  • Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Weeeeeeee, MORE, MORE~

  • geweldig!

  • Os negros dominam o blues das antigueiras ou é engano meu ?

  • @shevichelo nao e engano nenhum mesmo. vc esta 100% correto :D

  • muddy waters is flyin high on somethin or he's in very deep with the groove....what a legend!

  • Sonny Boy knew what to do with that harmonica

  • @fdumitr he aint nothin compared to Howlin Wolf on the harmonica

  • @jaronwells13 do you know who gave Howlin Wolf harmonica lessons?

  • is that matt guitar murphy in the back there?

  • The best of the best playing in this clip.

  • 29 people ain't got their mojo workin'..

  • @666BrainDamaged 90+% doesent ;D some may think they do but boy are they wrong ;)
