  • This is awesome, but I remember back in the 70s being annoyed by those kids. I guess I was about their same age. I wonder what they're like now and if this skit is something they still remember or talk about.

  • There's only one James Taylor. Why can't they make stuff like this now?

  • i remember this was the first time I ever saw James Taylor!

  • Am I the only one who thinks 1970s James Taylor looks like John Cleese in his "Fawlty Towers" phase, but with longer hair?

  • 7 people didnt want jelly kelly to come home

  • I think about this (song, and performance on SS) from time to time... and grin from ear to ear every time. SO freakin' cute.

  • @lollyworm54 I also fell in love with James at the age of 5 (I'm 38 now). My mom would play Your Smiling Face from the JT album every night for me before I got ready for bed! And when she bought me the In Harmony Sesame Street album I played this song over and over. I <3 me some James Taylor!!

  • Hilarious, though not on purpose

  • pure classic this was when Seseme Street was still being fresh such and establishing an idenity at the same time as Cartoon Network, Fox, Nickolodean, PBS, even though it has been doing it wayyyyyy before this sketch came out.

  • I can't think of a more kind man.

  • If I were James Taylor, I would tell the Kids, Not too loud on the Ohs.

  • This video is sweet as hell. On the edge of Youtube but the truest expression of art at its finest.

  • Comment removed

  • this tuba player's sweet.

  • I remember this segment from Sesame Street.

Since I like HomeStarRunner-Dot-Com, seeing that old Strong Bad e-mail from years ago titled "for kids," I can't help but think of this Sesame Street segment.

"Stave it off. 1-2-3 and now you can count to Three."

For anyone who knows Homestar Runner, they'll know what I'm talking about.

  • wrapped up nice and snug in a blanket of sweet acoustic guitar and heroin.R.I.P.

    jelly man

  • Why would you say something like that? He's living strong, alive and well.

  • Wow...James looks a bit like Jeff Foxworthy here. My two year old niece absolutely loves this song.

  • Oh man - I remember watching this with my son. He's 25 now. Wonderful!

  • love it :)

  • He's still alive!

  • I saw this on the Sing Yourself Silly video! Now that I think about it, the kids singing/screaming make me chuckle. :-)

  • I lived off this tape. This wasn't my favorite song, but I didn't know how to fast forward it, so I had to sit through it. xD

  • No doubt!

  • creepy little blonde kid--ew

  • Oh wow! I own a copy of this "sing yourself silly" episode!!

I remember playing it for my oldest son and his brother(before he passed away)in 1997. My oldest is now 14years old. I still play it every now and then for my youngest son... and also for myself. Good episode of Sesame Street!!

  • I ADORE this video/song! The kids screaming the chorus puts a smile on my face every time. They're obviously having a terrific time. And pay attention to the tuba player...his little grin at the end is so sweet! Many memories of my two sons and I singing along with this...

  • What a song!

  • sweet sweet sweet, james, what a guy

  • listening to the kids scream is what probably caused james to have his nervous breakdown

  • who is on brass?

  • First James Taylor song I ever heard or learned. 28 years later I'm still a huge fan. Thanks James.

  • I used to watch this song over and over with my twin sons 20 years ago. I had tape all the SS songs from the TV. They still love all these songs.

I love the little asian girl, the way she follows the tempo moving her head at the intro, and her facial expression when she anticipates the refrain.

Now I am watching it again with my 4 months old baby daughter, and she loves it too. Thank you youtube.

  • still as good today as the first time i saw it. it still puts a big stupid grin on my face, just like it did 20 years ago

  • I never realized before that JT's a double for John Cleese.

  • OMG! You're right!!! I totally did not notice that!!

    hehehe

  • James Taylor AND Seasme St,Does it get any better

  • I remember watching this as a kid. This vid almost brings a tear to my eye.

  • This is one bad ass video. Bad ass. Major nostalgia points

Maybe some day you and me friend we can have tea with him...

  • LOL, James looked like he had a lot of fun doing this.

  • i would always scream my head off at that part

OOOOOHHHHGGGGHHjenny can he come home jenny can he come home jenny can he come!

  • When I was about 4 and my sister was 3 we would sing this at the top of our lungs (wrongly) 'OOOHHH! Jenny, come! Come! Jenny Come, come! Jenny! Jenny! Come!' wow...we really destroyed the lyrics. LOL! My older sister used to yell at us to shut up. Looking back, if I were to see the younger version on myself singing this, I'd get annoyed with me too. LOL!

  • Does anyone know where to get the guitar tab for this song? Haven't been able to find anything.

  • the kids just killed it!

  • I absolutely love this, along with the rest of the Sing Yourself Silly video! I also like the "Ladybug Picnic" a lot! Now, my babies are almost grown... sigh... :_(___

  • Oh man this brings back memories

  • miss good stuff like this. i love watching this makes me bring back some great memories i even sent it to my parents and they were so tickled!

  • my kids used to watch this!!

  • My kids used to watch this song on a vhs tape, and for years they referred to James Taylor as the "Sesame Street Guy". Great memories for this Mommy!!

  • I never knew what they were saying in the chorus, nor did I know the verses when I was a kid, but I remember watching this so vividly that seeing it now is so unbelievably comforting.

  • this is from "in harmony: a sesame street record" released in 1980

  • Ahh, this brings me back. I watched this on tape growing up a lot. I loved Sesame Street sing-alongs.

  • I'm Jelly Man

  • OMG! my fav song in the worldd!!!

  • Love it!!!! Thanks so much for posting!

  • its so cool that JT is on sesame street, chilling with kids and having fun.

    what a legend.

  • Age hasn't been kind to all that hair on JT's lid.

  • Like all of James Taylors songs but Jellyman Kelly is my favorite. It gives me the "warm fuzzies" every time I hear it because when my grandson was about 2 years old we saw it on Sesame street and then I went out and bought the video. We watched that thing over and over and over till we learned every word of it. Now that my grandson is "growing up" it makes me cry too when I hear it. YES JELLYMAN KELLY, YOU CAN COME HOME!

  • I got nothing but respect for you, MikeyVP!

Yes, the children are screaming as opposed to singing, but the reality is this: When we were kids, we were screaming songs ourselves. The kids notwithstanding, you gotta love James Taylor and the tuba player.

"Oh, Jelly come home, Jelly Kelly!"

  • This was my favourite! I was THERE age.

  • I recorded this on a VHS when my daughter was a baby off of Sesame Street Unpaved and I would fast forward to it and play it over and over for her. It's how I fell in love with James Taylor and now it makes me cry.

  • i was about the age the kids are in this video when i first saw it. i remember being scared of james taylor, and not liking this song.

  • My kids are only 3 and 5 they absolute love this song, so JT voice still inspires after us all this years.

  • Have you played anything else of JT's for them?

  • I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. One of my favorite Sesame Street memories by far.

  • the screaming kids scared me so much that my mom had to fast forward the video I had with this on it every time I watched it

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! i remember watching this when i was like 5

  • OMG!!! I TOTALLY remember watching this as a kid! I am a huge JT fan now and maybe this is the reason why! Kudos!

  • hey..were any of you talented enough as kids to sing with james taylor and match him note for note? no you weren't...so lay off...they were enjoying themselves and that's that.

  • I liked him a lot as Basil in Fawlty Towers.

  • he was not basil fawlty. basil was played by john cleese of monty python's flying circus. i love tham both

  • I hear ya. I was joking--I thought JT looked quite a bit like Cleese back in the FT days. Though probably 2' shorter.

  • he kinda does look like John Cleese from Fawlty Towers

  • OH MY GOD i remeber this. i was real young. this is awsome. i love james he's amazing

  • I think this was done in '88, I remember this song, but I'm not sure if it's from Sesame street, or my parents. I was 11 in 88 so it COULD have been babysitting, or from my brother, still a good memory.

  • it wasn't done in eighty eight. it was back in the seventies.

  • You mig
