@1tabt Some musicologists have said that this song is the superlative use of orchestra for accompaniment in a song. I have a DVD of Don Giovanni with van Dam shot out-of-doors and among the 17th-century manor houses outside Venice, all real settings. Wonderful.
@Sashakie In addition to viewers admiring the voice of Jose van Dam, I hope that more people will be interested now in viewing the film. It is a favourite of mine, too.
The mood & execution herein is exemplary of this incredibly beautiful Mahler composition. (I'm personally drawn to listen to it>sleep. Although with a Mahlerian anniversary year, the reflective hearing can be depressing--I think the classical music audiences will become "Mahlered" out;to no avail, the World will continue on selfishly not listening to inner voices,i.e.,perhaps Love is not our Duty but our Destiny--maybe that's why the depressed reaction?). TX for posting!
Stephen, I can't believe I missed this video of yours. I felt moved to tears by the combination of the profoundly beautiful and sad imagery, along with the obviously magnificent singing. What hit me the most was the potent combination of these two plus the very emotional lyrics which just stopped me in my tracks. Thank you for so carefully choosing images from the film to recreate such a moving musical experience.
If each of us were to live to age 300, we never would have enough time truly to explore all the gloriiously beautiful music available to us. I often simply have stumbled upon by happenstance many of my musical joys.
Breathtaking!!!

Wonderful performance, and thanks, Stephen, for the beautiful presentation!
Isn't Youtube wonderful: it suggests I move seamlessy from this to a Van Damme kickboxer movie!!
