@ferronmcduff1966 Sorry if I'm interrupting or anything but I'd have to say that it's Beddor's smugness that really put me off the series. I read all three and one of the graphic novels and they weren't anything special, but I would have found them mostly entertaining if it weren't for the author's attitude. I just don't like it when he acts as though his story is superior because if it weren't for Dodgson he wouldn't have it anyway.
@StrangePierrot Exactly my point. I dont see smugness when reading it though but I guess it's just me. I can see it in his letter to the readers saying the original is wrong but other then that I dont. It's a fantastic series in my opioin simple as that. I do enjoy hearing what people think of the story though
@jackxsparrowxluverx: Agreed. The story was better than the prose. Certain things still bother me about it and make me feel he didn't do his proper research. He's kind of a dick to Dodgson, too. But the overall world he's created and the characters are compelling. The prose is just ... gah. Nigh unreadable.
@aubignespratling (this is jackxsparrowxluverx btw) I agree but I dont think it really needed research that much its a whole different story and there has been many different takes on Wonderland and this is just one of them. I also dont think he was a dick to Dodgson because what happened just fit with the rest of the story line that he had created
@ferronmcduff1966: Eh, I guess I take it too personally. He's one of my matrilineal ancestors, and I've always felt very connected to his work. Honestly, though, you didn't find the whole 'he told the wrong story' thing a bit, erm, arrogant? Props to Beddor on explaining the sudden estrangement a few years following AAIW's publication, but he rather daemonised Dodgson, and that I don't approve. Obviously I'm all about derivative works, or I'd be a hypocrite. Still. Respect, no?
@aubignespratling I wouldnt call it arrogant really, as an author (or trying to be) myself it takes a lot to create a story and make it believeable and I dont think Beddor was trying to be arrogant or rude to the works of Dodgson I think it was more his first stepping stone into the world of Alice by saying that what he wrote wasnt completely true to what she had said. I love the original story of Alice just as much as I love LGW because of these elements
@ferronmcduff1966: Heh, preachin' to the choir there. I'm more than aware of how difficult solid story-forming can be. But, regarding Beddor, I just wished he'd been more cognisant of the means with which he was treating the original work. That's all. It's a fair point you make, though, in that it wasn't intentional. I simply feel he could've been more aware. I try to always maintain respect - and accuracy - when it comes to the work from which my own fiction is derived.
@aubignespratling Im sure he meant no disrespect and to write a new version of his story means he has respect for his original work and the author himself and so do I, if Im going to write a story about something I try to find out as much as I can and sometimes its hard to show the respect he has for Dodgson when writing a story like this. I see your points and you make a great argument as well.
Lol im glad (i think) that ur insanity now has a song =D and Im glad u think the song is awesome cuz it is. If you want I'll send u the song just send me a message with ur email and i'll send u it
@jackxsparrowxluverx So lullaby is going to be in LGW too? I think that song is SO appropriot for the years Dodge and Alyss are apart (voilins for Alyss' England experiance and the rock stuff for Dodge and the war.) I just wanted to confirm that.
@AmSpazz Yes Lullaby is also part of LGW and I believe it is meant for Dodge and Alyss. The websit has the whole soundtrack but some of the songs only play for a few minutes as a preview.
I think that Hypnogaja was comissioned by the writer of "The looking glass wars" (which is an amazing book!) to write and sing this song, but i'm not sure
