Overtaking boat has to keep clear is no longer a valid rule. I would say rule 11. It doesn't look there any damage so can't be protested under rule 14.

Just a small question to you sailors out there :)

Am I right in saying that the boat being filmed has right of way as the boat hitting them was technically overtaking. Hence the rule "overtaking boat gives way"?

@1795DARKNESS the boat had pretty much lost control as i think they were to shy for the set in a fresh breeze.. yes the other boat should've tried to avoid it but it was all to late

the rule that you are thinking of is rule 11: When boats are on the same tack and overlapped, a windward boat shall keep clear of a leeward boat

as soon as any boat can get their nose to leeward of another boat they have rights, EVEN, let me make this clear, EVEN IF THEY ARE OVERTAKING.

White spi was released...so the boat came on windward. Red spi on the other boat.. correctly hoisted...could not answer (coming to windward) and hit red spi boat!

Who was to blame? red spi boat RRS11

1st the crew from white spi must not release the spi (bad crew). So the skipper could not kept the course of the white spi boat.

-2nd the crew of the red spi boat must release his spi in order to permit her boat to come also to windward (RRS_11)...Not easy in useful time...but they must did it!
