It's because Mickey's been out, fighting in the darkness. So he's unable to get into contact with Minnie, therefore can't tell her where he is.

your playthrough makes me want to play this game more, I have this game. However, I stopped playing it due to saving problems, even though I have more GB(or something like that) in my memory card. By the way, the memory card I have is 64 MB Max Memory card and I bought it from fry's electronics.
