Here's the problem with being black in the inner-city of DETROIT: This kind of music gets no play on our radio stations. @jaybuddah I thought this was a Barry White original and B.J. covered it. Anyway you slice it Barry was a phenomenal musician/singer/songwriter as is Billy. Isaac Hayes, Lester Young (saxophonist) Louisiana Red (nitty gritty blues), Miles Davis, Three Degrees, Louis Armstrong and many many more. All great influential artists that have contributed 110% to the music of our day. I will say that as a 41 year old male caucasian. I love that music.

Besides, there have been countless times when a cover has been superior. Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower. Aretha Franklin's Respect. Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah. Writing the original doesn't mean anything. And it's a good song, but nowhere near a masterpiece. Don't cheapen the word.
