If all the Democratic caucuses and primaries had been winner-take-all, then Clinton would now have 1,743 pledged delegates to Obama's 1,257.

Why does this matter? Most states are winner take all in the general election. McCain leads Obama by 20 points in Florida and leads slightly in New York. Clinton leads McCain in both states in most polls. Without FL and NY, how can a Democrat win in November?

I was in PA for the Reagan v. Mondale race, working the Mondale campaign. What I saw dovetails very much w/ C14rider's analysis, though I saw formerly almost exclusively Dem wards falling to Reagan in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area in NE PA. Hillary has done better with old school, more conservative, Catholic, and less educated voters - all in big numbers in that area. Those were the kind that went for Reagan then and would prolly go for her over Obama now.

Sure it's going to hurt a little now, but given that Obama wins the primary (which I think there are many indications that he will), then what's there left for McCain to use against Obama.
