just sit back, and close your eyes. and listen to the music. and it all fall in place. you are not on '' earth '' anymore. but somewhere mysterious land. you can't describe it. but you know it's epicness right there!
I started in vinalla wow and i have to say i may of not liked how the classes and gear was reconstructed and distributed but Northrend and wotlk was the best expansion for me music wise and questing wise.
These Uillean pipes as you call it, its just Aaamazing!!! The sound mixed together with the classic orchestra is unique and so calm/relaxing for the soul :) Puts a smile on my face EVERY time! If i could witness PLAY performing this music live, i would be the happiest human on the planet!
Howling Fjord: the birthplace of Humanity through the Vrykul before being sent to the Arathi Highlands by Vrykul that couldn't bear to kill their own children as ordered by King Ymiron 15,000 years ago.
It's in the bagpipe family, both have drones, but the uillean pipes use a pumping system for the bellows instead of blowing like the Highland Bagpipes. There's many types of bagtypes from many different countries, like swedish bagpipes.
I don't play WoW anymore, but when The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim comes out, it'll be like visiting Northrend all over again. I can guarantee this music will not leave my head as I play :)
@1MexJ yeah you're right. i was smoking marijuana actually and was still excited about hearing the nykelharpa from the other track. the mild retardation has since passed and it is quite obvious that these are pipes and not nykelharpas. my bad!
I know a lot of people say BC was the best expansion, but I wasn't playing WoW then that launched so the only experience I have with Outland is questing an empty zones, seeing other players once in a blue moon. For me WotLK was the best, especially after playing Frozen Throne and helping Arthas rise to power. Northrend is such a unique, foreboding and mysterious place. For me, exploring the frozen north on Christmas day as it rained outside was the best experince I've had in WoW
@wannahakaluguy You're damn right there. The frozen land is so unique to any other places I've been on WoW. No matter what, I'd say WotLK was the best expansion for both PvP, PvE, and gameplay.
@wannahakaluguy I feelad for you man.BC was the greatest peice of work Blizz ever did.Though my Irish nature, and soul of a warrior must agree that Northrend is an amazing place where danger is around every corner.Whenever I hear the music to Howling Fjord,or Grizzly Hills im home.No matter where i'm at or what i'm doing if only for that brief moment in time...I'm home.
@wannahakaluguy Same here. Rly, ur words makes me wanna cry. Quitted WoW since WOTLK ended. And same like u, exploring Howling Fjord, or other areas was just pure unique. Rly missed this expansion.
@wannahakaluguy I have to agree. I personally enjoy the look, the feel, and the plot much, much more in WotLK than in BC, and I felt more at home with playing it.
The instrument who makes this beautiful sound is an instrument from sweden, its called Nyckelpipa and its used much in the World of warcraftt music, and exspecially wotlk
I'm not here to say this or that expansion sucks. I just wanted to tell that when I hear this music it just opens something in my heart, it opens a little golden gate. I don't really know why, I did not play on the official servers just on a private server but I wanted so much to play and sadly I had false dreams. I know it sounds weird because WoW is just a video game but the my memories about my dreams in it made it better.
i miss the golden days of wow. aka the burning crusade and the first few months of wrath (especially the first few days questing in the fjord). it felt like there was still so much to explore, much to do, and something to work for. there is none of that feeling in wow nowadays. now the game is so desperate that they have to offer free trials to people. and frankly the only way to go would be to make wow 2.0 or simply drop wow altogether and develop a new, revolutionary game. just a thought
It saddens me greatly that I will experience this expansion again.. Magical times they were.. Lost in a world of pixels.. I'll never forget you WotLK.. fucksake...
@HollowIchigo3D The dumbass dragon from warcraft II do indeed have alot lore about him... And hes a major char in the day of the dragon book... Cata does have alot storie...
WotLK was indead the best expansion ever. It's to bad they released cataclysm so fast. btw check out this song, it's the soundtrack of the movie "the eagle". It has the same vibe
Blizzard made all expansions sweet sweet tender love, except cataclysm... Sorry blizz, but it just seems you guys gave up after wotlk... Long live wotlk, style, music, rp, it had it all.
Awesome track indeed... M sure all alliance players wud remember 1st time taking boat from menethil harbor to howling fjord and that epic feeling u get when boat sailing thru mountains and this music insues... M loving cata atm but wrath will stay as one of the best expacs of all time :) ty for uploading this masterpiece..
the expanison i knew was wotlk... i love cata, but wotlk will always be my fav... i will always miss the landscapes, the sounds... when playing this expansion, i was in my own little world... if i ever left wow, id retire all my characters to places around northend.. i will always love wow, every expansion will be fun , new challenges, new adventures... but my most fond memorys, will be lvling in woltk... i will never forget it... Always reminds me of Winter.. fav season... first season of wotlk
@kazmohdim I'm going to do just that :) Mix the two together, both music videos I made (Parts 1 and 2) of Howling Fjord mixed with Rainy Mood! I'll put the link in description to the video when I upload it :-D
The Alliance city of Valgarde is almost certainly a reference to the Swedish town of Valsgärde, the site of a large number of Viking archaeological sites dating from the 6th - 8th centuries.
This particular place in wow seems to be heavily influenced by Nordic folk songs aswell.
And the word ''Fjord'' is basically open water anywhere in the archipelago. Or a bay.
I remember the first time I stepped onto Howling Fjord. As this theme played, the feeling I got from it was unlike anything I ever experienced from any game. It was the first time since I first joined WoW when I felt insignificant in the game.
@slayer7160 it is uilleann pipes. which actually is what much of the tunes from braveheart are played on. Very similiar sound I know but the instrament is pumped by the elbow not blown into. Still a very celtic instrament though. Look up Eric Rigler. He is the one who played those braveheart tunes. its good stuff. the only thing that sucks is he does not play more relaxing stuff like this. I've seen him perform a few times now, YOUNG DUBLINERS @ CLEVELAND IRISH FEST 'Eric R. & The Doctor
Went to Iceland on a school trip last year- this track suits the breath-taking scenery so well. The glaciers and the vast plains- pity there were no fjords. Still an amazing experience. Now if I can just go to Norway and/or Canada at some point...
There was something truly magical about stepping off that boat at Valgarde and seeing the towering Utgarde Keep and the magical landscape and the mountains... Nothing will replace or match Northrend for the first time. Its just that amazing.
This was so epic.... getting off the boat into northrend on wotlk launch day. was one of my favorite parts of wotlk. I had just completed the dk started zone and than i went on my draenei and quested here
You can never say ''this music is amazing'' by listening to it on youtube, you have to be occupying yourself by quests to take in the feel of the atmospheric music, and you cant revisit howling fjord since cata is out and still enjoy it. It will never be the same, and this makes me sad in real life, because i started out in wrath, and this left a deep and meaningful feeling when i levelled in this zone WITHOUT heirlooms. Fuck you heirlooms. This was truly a place to quest in...
i love this song, everytime i hear it, i get lost in the real world cuz it opens my mind up, then i actually start to think about things, it is also just a beautiful song that i listen to everyday, WotLK will ALWAYS be the best expansion ever, i love the music, the landscape, it gets to your feelings, thunbs up if u love wotlk
@dragonuvkiller666 Wotl was indeed the best expansion , BC was almost as good , just not as mysterial. Cataclysm isnt even comparable , gameplay is still good.. but the zone and ambiance isnt even close to be as good as previous expantion , thumbs up for your comment dude.
the only thing that made wow slightly better after they started releasing expansions packs.. this kind of music is what made wrath of the lich king good (oh, and the viking theme of the landscape ofc)
i miss the pre burning crusade days myself playing before bc came out haveing 100gold knowing you are loaded lol'd etc eveything felt so new like the smell and feel of wet paint on a wall burning crusade was the best of my wow years i remmber my first time going inside the Exodar and walking down that ramp to that view it was just breath taking to look at and steping through the portal to outland on your own affraid but feeling ok at the same time getting my first core hound and old guild raids
Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone, and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought?
If they ever tell my story let them say that I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of the Lich King, betrayer of Lordaeron.
Let them say I lived in the Wrath of the Lich King.
@lastplacewin No, I didn't write that and I won't pretend to. It's a slightly altered version of the opening speech from "Troy". Thanks for the compliments though, I'll pass them on to the producer. :P
say what you will, but this music brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. it signifies, to me, a long, life building/ life changing journey coming to a bittersweet finale. it reminds me of all the friends I have made, the lives that I have touched, the good times, the bad times, and every single moment I spent learning the game inside and out. when I hear this, a rush of my time being spent well, and finally becoming.... complete comes to mind.... I will always remember my times in wow a
@algwins bro wotlk had the best storyline and the mammoths and everything maked sense and it was the good times.. now in cata the whole fucking game is ruined by the multi billion company..
@Dcpwn3r Yeah, I know what you mean :) I really enjoyed the storyline (but I have more of a liking with BC), but I mean come one, the only descent raids where Ulduar and the Icecrown Citadel (and Malygos). Naxxramas was a copy/paste of the Vanilla raid, and the Crusader's Trial was so simplistic.
Compare them with BC : Gruul, Kael'thas, Karazhan, Vashj, Black Temple, Hyjal, Sunwell... I mean come on, they kinda laid back on the Northrend raids, don't you think ? :D
@darkwoodmovies I don't have any problems w/cata...I'm bored w/it now..sick of running randoms day in and day out...but yes...the music/scenery and the overall feel of WOTLK is amazing...will take this music any day
I started watching Braveheart and in the beginning of the movie, there were fjords and stuff. After that, bagpipes started playing. And then, I cried.
I loved WotLK, I don't know why so many people hated it. It was inspired so much from Scandinavian landscapes, lore, etc. And having Norwegian heritage only made me love it more. Flying into Howling Fjord when the expansion came out was breathtaking. I miss the days when Naxx was the hardest raid, those were my favorite times because I never raided in BC.

There was something truly magical about stepping off that boat at Valgarde and seeing the towering Utgarde Keep and the magical landscape and the mountains... Nothing will replace or match Northrend for the first time. Its just that amazing.
Kelann08 6 months ago
Northrend was the best looking zone in wow!I miss wotlk.

@demonskins Google "MPQ Extractor" and that'll let you export all of the .mp3s from every expansion/patch straight out of the game files.

i love this song, everytime i hear it, i get lost in the real world cuz it opens my mind up, then i actually start to think about things, it is also just a beautiful song that i listen to everyday, WotLK will ALWAYS be the best expansion ever, i love the music, the landscape, it gets to your feelings, thunbs up if u love wotlk
dragonuvkiller666 7 months ago 72
@dragonuvkiller666 Wotl was indeed the best expansion , BC was almost as good , just not as mysterial. Cataclysm isnt even comparable , gameplay is still good.. but the zone and ambiance isnt even close to be as good as previous expantion , thumbs up for your comment dude.
3Carnifex 5 months ago
@3Carnifex thx for the reply :D i just love wotlk, especially grizlly hills, just walking around and having the game get down to my feelings
dragonuvkiller666 5 months ago
@3Carnifex Difference with Wotlk that it's quest and story line isn't that epic as Cata has been in my opinion! :)
SwedenToTT 5 months ago
the only thing that made wow slightly better after they started releasing expansions packs.. this kind of music is what made wrath of the lich king good (oh, and the viking theme of the landscape ofc)

@jarrstratfir
Did you make that up? If not, then you seriously consider story-writing.
That is really good.
lastplacewin 5 months ago
@lastplacewin No, I didn't write that and I won't pretend to. It's a slightly altered version of the opening speech from "Troy". Thanks for the compliments though, I'll pass them on to the producer. :P

slashlespaul89 8 months ago
If only cata had music like this, but instead we get the crap you hear in the goblin areas.
Everytime I hear this a tear comes to my eye, every time!
HolyFrostProductions 8 months ago
say what you will, but this music brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. it signifies, to me, a long, life building/ life changing journey coming to a bittersweet finale. it reminds me of all the friends I have made, the lives that I have touched, the good times, the bad times, and every single moment I spent learning the game inside and out. when I hear this, a rush of my time being spent well, and finally becoming.... complete comes to mind.... I will always remember my times in wow a

Ah hell, you know, I was never a great fan of the Wotlk raids, but goddamnit, the landscape and music of Northrend are m**f** masterpieces !
Thanks blizz !
algwins 8 months ago 2
@algwins bro wotlk had the best storyline and the mammoths and everything maked sense and it was the good times.. now in cata the whole fucking game is ruined by the multi billion company..
Dcpwn3r 8 months ago

I'll take WOTLK and it's amazing scenery/music any day over Cataclysm(ic failure).

My favorite area in the game.
barisaxman2 9 months ago
I loved WotLK, I don't know why so many people hated it. It was inspired so much from Scandinavian landscapes, lore, etc. And having Norwegian heritage only made me love it more. Flying into Howling Fjord when the expansion came out was breathtaking. I miss the days when Naxx was the hardest raid, those were my favorite times because I never raided in BC.
