  • Beautiful! Absolutely astounding arrangement

  • I only have two problems with this... 1. She isn't blending at all with Bryn... 2. Bryn looks like he doesn't even want to sing it with her.... Other wise, I love this piece

  • Wspaniałe głosy,wspaniałe wykonanie.Szacunek

  • Bryn Terfel was a great singer!

  • I love it when she sings "Bring me to life", but this song was also good! =)

  • Szkoda, że wszystko co piękne szybko się kończy. Mogli by tak śpiewać bez końca! Wspaniałe :)))

  • i like you katerine jenkins

  • Hmmmmmm...

  • please anyone could publish the version of this with terfel and keenlyside, i can't see from italy the one published... thank you!

  • I wish I was there. My oh my what a beautiful evening this must have been.

  • I THINK ABOUT YOU NIGHT AND DAY, I NEED YOU AND IT`S TRUE, WHEN I THINK ABOUT YOU I CAN SAY I NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER BLUE...( THE BEATLES - I`LL GET YOU !) I WOULD LIKE TO THANK JOHN AND PAUL FOR HELPING ME.......

  • ecellencia

  • Inspiring

  • true flesh born of the most holy virgin mary became man of slendor of god father almighty

  • GREAT! I'm singing this for Festival next week!!!

  • Vocal music friends, sorry for overparticipating, here's my last word on this video: Forget what the performers look like, what they're wearing, the venue, and the orchestra. Close your eyes. Just listen with the mechanism of your hearing that connects with your soul, instead of just your critical ear (ultimately, how it moves you is all that counts). Be truthful. Isn't it some of the most beautiful three-and-a-half minutes of sound of your life in the last year? If so mission accomplished.

  • P.S. I consider costume designers and seamstresses to be wizards and magicians of the first order. Point is, a degree is a helpful tool, not a pre-requisite. The samples on your channel page are exquisite. I will be singing the role of Parpignol in La Boheme in March. I'm on stage for what, 10 seconds? Now, there is a costume challenge!

  • Agreed! We are aware of horrid attempts by opera singers at popular genre --- yet the opera afficionados clap themselves silly. No demands for credentials. I don't consider opera and classical the same thing. There are great sacred/oratorio singers that probably ought not do opera and vice versa. I don't consider myself among the top 50 tenors in my state. Yet after most performances, audiences say they wept at the emotion I conveyed and evoked in them. In the end, impact is what matters most.

  • @arpeggio1358: Re: Jenkins appeal, I noted her "looks" as in her eyes and way, not the look of her bosom. Groban is closer to a lyric baritone than a true tenor. Bocelli takes breaths in the middle of phrases. They both strain at high notes. But their overall package is inspiring. Likewise, Jenkins' persona projects humility, gratitude, repentance, patriotism, good humor, passion for the music. Look, you design apparel that MAY sparkle. But Jenkins makes it DO so. Stop sniping from off-stage.

  • @byzintek Well said I agree with all your comments. I think Katherine is a great singer and the overall sound is very pleasing to my ears. I'm no expert, but judging by some of the comments I read, I'd say thank god I'm not and it makes me wonder, how on earth anyone could enjoy any kind of music, when they're continually picking faults and makes me question their motives for doing so. Thank you for contributing so eloquetly..

  • @arpeggio1358: What is your agenda? To purge the world of crossover artists? As far as I know, Jenkins has not claimed to be an opera singer, nor did I say so claim. In fact, I said she was NOT even a wannabe. Seems odd that an opera purist like you relies upon Wikipedia as the arbiter of all things music, but Wiky, like me, points out Jenkins has classical credentials. With your Masters degrees, you choose to work as a seamstress. Do you really insist Jenkins' music degree be in performance?

  • @byzintek First off, my Master's degree is in Art history. I design and make clothing AND costumes, historical costumes, so I use my Master's degree all the time. Stop trying to belittle my profession. It has nothing to do with this discussion. Someone who sings opera should have training in that field. Jenkins does not. All opinions welcome on YT, but they must be polite, not personal digs at the commenter.

  • @byzintek My main point is that if Jenkins is going to sing opera/classical music, she wil be judged by the same standards as real opera/classical performers. Also, opera singers who crossover into pop, Broadway, etc., should be judged by the same standards as performers in those fields. Most opera singers fail miserably at singing non operatic/classical music. They simply can't adjust their singing style for other genres.

  • mah ........ non e' un canto profano ,e'un canto religioso . non confondetevi ...ciao

  • perfect. classic+modern in one beutiful voice

  • wow the girl was so off with the beat. she dragged the entire song

  • :-)

  • @BritishSnail I like your name!

  • @elephantbarbiegirl I have M.E. :-). I like your name too! :-D. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9...... ;-)

  • and why do they keep bloody looking at each other. its off putting. if it was a duet from an opera, thats fine, but its for all intensive purposes, "sacred music". you don't stare at the other with googley eyes, it loos stupid.

  • @piratzrule when you sing with other people, you have to watch their mouth to stay in sync. but your still right, a little less seduction in the sacred stuff please!

  • she's a bloody typical soprano. the orchestra has set the tempo, then she comes in and wallows in her own self satisfaction of "listen to how good i sound", which drags the music. lucky for the music bryn came and started picking the tempo back up.

  • @piratzrule -

    - Pay no attention to what the critics say... Remember, a statue has never been set up in honor of a critic! ~ Jean Sibelius (1865 - 1957) ~

  • Schöner... eh... Klangkörper :D

Wenn sie doch nur bei solchen Liedern geblieben wär und nicht Sachen von Evanescence verkitschen, verknödeln und zerstören würde...

  • lol this is one of the few "hot"sopranos i know...

  • @davlor86 In the world of opera, it's the voice that counts, not a pretty face and a big chest. Being "hot" is of no consequence. Jenkins is a pop singer who sings opera arias, not a real opera singer.

  • @arpeggio1358 lol yeah i know that, talent always counts more than beauty, but still beauty is always an extra point in all people, i mean there is nothing wrong with a woman with a pretty face and a big chest and feel attracted to her for that, is it? ;P

  • Beautiful !!!

  • MARAVILHOSO !!!! BRAVÍSSIMO:)))) Obrigada por compartilhar tanta beleza e ternura. !!!

  • This is the genre I like her voice in....Sacred or Opera-ish. *****

  • Redburdz, the Latin lyrics are the same. It is a meditative Eucharistic hymn based on a poem derivied from a 14th-century manuscript from Abbey of Reichenau on Lk. Constance, but often attributed to any one of three popes. Besides Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Ave verum corpus (K. 618)[6], there are settings by William Byrd (considered one of his best works), Sir Edward Elgar, Franz Liszt , Camille Saint-Saëns and Alexandre Guilmant. What a joy this is to perform with my soprano duet partners.

  • Did Karl Jenkins write this composition anew, or is it an arrangement of Mozart, or a new score of a text used by Mozart (and others)? I love this music.

  • P.S. This was written for Terfel to perform at the Welsh music festival he hosts at his estate. I doubt that he is "hard up for money and that is why is is singing with her". She has classical credentials; she is no pop-to-opera wannabe. She dressed for the event, not just this piece. Can’t wait to perform this with soprano Megan Chenovick tomorrow…

  • @byzintek I'm sorry, but Jenkins is a pop opera singer. She has not the voice, technique, breathing to sing opera/classical music. Her degree from the Royal Academy is in teaching, not opera. Look it up on Wikipedia. Please put aside your self-admitted crush on Jenkins and listen to her voice. She doesn't use sound technique.

She would never be invited to sing a role in a complete opera in an opera house. You're letting her pretty face and body cloud your judgement. No offense intended.

  • I'm happily married for 35 years to a great woman but I admit to a crush on Jenkins. What does it? It is those slow motion, incomplete blinks of her eyes as if she is humble (despite her talent and beauty) to be singing this song. As a lyric tenor I submit that if you think she looks strange while singing its because she is using sound techniques of breathing, singing "in the mask", forming syllables well, staying relaxed. Her "ave" seemed a bit harsh, but that may be an affect of Welsh.

  • WOW...Terfel must have REALLY needed money to agree to this. He must have been cringing the entire time.

  • @goldenthroat86

Bryn loves money and will seemingly do anything to make even more.

He could use his huge power in the business so much more positively and promote real talent. There are plenty of attractive singers that can sing well. The public might like them even more.

  • A reminder that there really is beauty in this world. I'm deeply moved.

  • My God!!! She looks and sings like an angel! It's incredible!

  • she looks strange singing.

  • Siwmae, beth gallai dweud sydd ddim wedi cael i gweud ambarod? Perfaith, hyfryd, emosional iawn? Rhein i gyd a llawer mwy. Cyfle I clywed dau o canwr yr hool byd yn canu fel angelion.. Simply amazing, if this a foretaste of heaven, then it will be truly worth the wait. Diolch yn fawr iawn cumverlandgap, thank you

  • @scarletfever72

Rydw i'n cytuno a chi; mae'n pleser yn perthyn mwy i'r Nef na i'r byd clywed Bryn a Katherine yn canu yn gilydd.

  • wow amazing i finally found a hot soprano woman

  • @davlor86 She's Mezzo

  • I am enthralled with Bryn Terfel and can't get enough. I'm not familiar with Katherine Jenkins, but she looks beautiful and I enjoyed their voices together.

  • Is Katherine Karl Jenkins' daughter??

  • No. Katherine's father passed away several years ago.

  • No she is not Karl Jenkins daughter.

  • Beautiful! Too bad the woman singer has no modesty in choice of clothing -- especially given the song selection. Good heavens!

  • Comment removed

  • @Alphonse0Theodore Perhaps she should have dressed in black! What century do you come from the 12lth ? Katherine is fine .

  • :-))) You are so right. Her sexy outfit does not fit at all the religious message of this composition.

    But she loks great anyway.

  • @ErdbeereRot

"Ave verum corpus" means "Hail the true body," so her outfit is VERY appropriate! I look at Katherine's form and say, "God is great!"

  • This is a perfect performance from both artists. Impressive man with a great voice and a most beautifull woman, also with a good voice. Wales can be proud of them.

    Greetings from Flanders, Belgium.

    Jan VCB

  • Amazing performance =D

    Katherine is awesome!! =D

  • A wonderful performance from both singers- you make Wales proud. Technical question: why do they use microphones at these events? Do they need them?

  • @elephantbarbiegirl Why do they use microphones? Do they need them? Are you serious? How are they going to record the thing without them? And isn't this in the open air? It isn't a tiny Opera House with special reflective screens and the orchestra in a pit with instructions to mute their playing. Microphones were not used in opera for the same reason they were not used in theatre. The advent of wireless mikes has changed all that.

  • @Sqid101 Ok! Keep your hair on!. Thanks for the enlightening information but there's no need to bark at me!

  • epriti:

The piece is: "Ave Verum" by Karl Jenkins. It was written for Bryn Terfel, and is AWESOME. I sang it with another baritone for our high school's christmas concert with orchestra. When I get a copy of the video, I will post.

  • bryn looks like chandler bing. :]

  • the video shows how wonderful we can sing....the comments show how ugly we can write

  • I've been listening to this over and over again- absolutely beautiful! Go Bryn and Katherine!!!

  • this music is wonderful!!!!

is there anyone here who could provide me the sheet music? i have my wedding in april and i would love to learn it with my future husband for the ceremony :-) thanx in advance

  • just google ave verum, it is a very ancient hymn. It's all over the place.

  • Bendigedig ! x

  • Ardderchog! :-D

  • I guess thats why i Iznibz, sit here and comment, i guess u sound like a drowned rat.hehe. what a wonderful singer, amazing voice, but hey what do i know, Iznibz seems to be the professional here. Keep going KJ

  • Katharine Jenkins has a beautiful voice, and is a gorgeous woman. If I was heading into a singing career, she'd be one of my heroines.

  • Ave verum corpus natum

    Des Maria virgine

    Vere pasum inmolatum

    In cruce prohomine

    Cujus latus perforatum

    Fluxit aqua et sanguine

    Esto nobis prae gustatum

    In mortis examine

  • I think is actually quite lovely from her. Some of her other stuff is a little questionable however. Her Ave Maria from this festival is quite nice as well.

  • Iznibz Ur a muppet - perhaps thats why u see miss piggy

  • I didn't have to see her to hear her!

  • Muppet

  • Iznibz

    Ca dy geg, mochyn!

  • No, I will not shut my mouth.

KJ can sing sweetly enough. But not here. The vowels are indistinct (hence "piggy.")

  • Looks like it's u then Iznibz against the reord buying public

  • So constructive and adult. Bet you don't have many friends. Why so bitter - if you don't like her why watch her. Leave the rest of us to enjoy KJ and go and watch the muppet show.

  • katherine's career has so far taken off, she is quite the money maker, and she has been all over the world. loved at home and at concerts worldwide, tell me then, all you critics, where has your career and your life taken you, oh I know, you tube.

  • Why critiscise? It's just a perfect musical piece and they complement each other beautifully!

  • Katherine Jenkins has a beautiful voice, but questionable technique. She modifies everything way to much and I can't stand this "fake operatic" sound she's achieving. Bryn Terfel on the other hand has amazing technique. I love the "color" of his sound. It's much more vibrant than the white nose sounding next to him.

  • I agree. Bryn has a far more 'real' sound.

  • Superschönes Stück.

  • Did she not learn her lessons well, now we have her a moment in time, what a beautiful performance. Love this.

  • Terfel is SO cool! I would TOTALLY lose my composure standing that close to Katherine Jenkins when she's dressed like that, and singing! :-D

  • Balch iawn yr ydwyf fod yn Gymro wrth weld y fideo hwn!

Right proud I am of being Welsh, on watching this video!

    Bryn a Katherine am byth!

    Evan Owen

  • This must be the most beautiful mezzo-soprano singing nowadays but her beauty does not take away from her talent as a great singer, if anything it adorns it! I love this arrangement. Sweet. Fresh. A true delight to listen to and a heavenly rendition, in my view.

  • Is this available anywhere or was it only done for the stage? I knew I'd heard Bryn sing this song with a female accomplice!

  • Y gorau o'r gorau!

    Evan Owen

  • Simply beautiful and tender

  • Exquisite

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • oh la la!

  • Wonderful !! Bryn has a voice like a magnificent waterful , and Katherine is stunning . A terrific combination , and a beautiful piece .

  • Katie is one of our modern times greats; with qualities that preserve traditional demeanour and decency.

  • @sisterspure decency. she got busted for doing coke, lol.

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Excellent!

  • I love her voice.

  • Yes Swimlad - you are!

  • Am I the only person in the world who cringes at her voice? She's a stunning and delightful woman but I really dislike her singing voice.

  • Trust me, you're not the only to cringe at Katherine Jenkins' voice.

I did when I first began to listen to her, but after a while it's one of those "I've grown accustomed to her... voice" kinda things and it begins to sound beautiful. It's hard at first, but I've grown to love her voice and how she sings. It's so close to baritone for a woman.

  • Mezzo is closer to soprano than to anything else.

Tenor comes under and then baritone and bass.

So, your assessment of her voice pitch is misinformed. Maybe someone with voice training could help us understand this better.

  • Yeah i feel the same way. I see how she looks and expect something... else to come out of her voice.

  • Karl is Katherine's cousin. Not many people known that.

  • To think that the Catholic Church rejected Latin music for imitation folk music!

  • Some of us are working on getting it back.

  • wow.such a nice voice!!

  • I know it was August, but shouldn't she have had something more on her chest so that she wouldn't catch cold? Maybe something was rubbed on.

  • Well, if she ever wants someone to rub on some Vicks vapour rub, I'm her man!

    ;-)

  • Beautiful!

  • Simply beautiful and tender

  • Both Katherine and Bryn are wonderful here in a beautiful devotional piece - Karl Jenkins has surpassed himself with this arrangement. And Katherine . . . what can one say .. . she looks absolutely, gorgeously, sublime . . .
