I don't agree with double, triple tapping with round houses. It really comes down to Savatuer. Thai fighters are alot more technical than what you see in MMA...most of the time. So as it has been said a number of times.....the fighter makes the art, not the art makes the fighter.
i think savate, like boxing is a very sport-specific art. the shoes are required for foot jabs and other foot strikes and i think kicking with the shins is illegal in an actual savate match am i correct? im currently learning savate and my intructor said when he first sparred with his savate coach he used muay thai and his shins and lower body were pretty messed up by the boots. you cant shoulder roll in a muay thai fight and you cant kick with your toes without shoes.
yes, it has been done. A few times officially and I am sure a few more unofficially. Sometimes the savateur won, some times the Muay Thai component. It all depends on the fighter, how good they are and how they use their art or incorporate others to make their fighting better.
@wulfyson It's been done, savate vs Muay Thai, and both disciplines have done well against each other.Savate is very deadly when trained properly.Remember,as the motto for my gym goes:"IT'S NOT JUST WHAT YOU KNOW,IT'S HOW YOU TRAIN."
It really depends on the martial artist. I've trained in both systems and I wouldn't want it any other way; Savate has really good set ups, mauy thai has versatility from elbows and knees.
One colleague said it best, "...to compare Savate and Muay Thai kicks is to compare a baseball bat and a hammer."
The ref. was there to demonstrate to beginners some of the basics of how an assaut match is carried out. The ref. was not needed as demonstration only.
These guys don't keep their guard up. No guard is an invitation to really get hit. Too many spinning back kicks. As for Savate vs. Muy Thai - Savate typically kicks a**.
i'll take muay thai anyday. a lot of our training is to learn to take punishment. not saying that a savate boot in the kidney or ribs doesn't hurt like a mf, but a shin to the quad or neck can put you on the mat before you know what happened. i'm not even going to get into the clinch and rising knees.
Savate also trains these techniques for the self defense aspect from what I've seen here on youtube. For the ring, they only train punching and kicking with the shoe though. Check out the video here on Youtube called "Boxe de la Rue"
Savate in the ring isn't about dishing out punishment, it's about exercising control and outperforming your opponent on a technical level; being a better tireur. You will see knock-outs, but generally speaking, the judges want to see a tireur win by accumulation of points rather than a lucky shot.
well said white monk. However when before joe frazier beat ali, he said something to this effect: "Ali has to back up and fight. All i have to do is fight." In fact ali won their next battle throwing flurys while moving in, and forcing frazier to keep his distance. I personally feel that Muay boran And Krav Maga are the most effective.
Having practiced real competition kickboxing (not Cardio), I believe I can say with a tiny amount of authority that these guys are pretty darn good. About Savate and Muy Thai, Savate seems pretty good at long range while Muy Thai seems more "in your face". Different tool, different job.
In my humble opinion, any ring art that focuses on full contact ring competition is pretty darned good. IMHO Muay Thai has an edge because it trains the clinch and Savate doesn't, and also because of Savate's fondness for fancy kicks. That's not to say that a Savateur could never beat a Thai figher, however.
It's all about the fighter, not the style. You hear that shit very often, but it's true. Why not learn the swift shoe kicks from Savate along with the stinging Muay-Thai shin kicks? Wouldn't dare to face an expert in the kicking of both arts..
Well said. Most people who write their opinions here don't know what the heck they are talking about. It is always down to the individual. I'm sure an experienced fighter would dispatch these two no matter their style, just because of experience. However, the more a martial arts is focused on competition, the less effective it becomes for real fighting. In my book at least. Cheers
Cheers! Attributes (timing, distance, sensitivity etc.) - in my book - are the most important things to master. Styles are really not that important. And I agree, you don't know whether or not that Savate kick og Wing Chun trap is goin to work for you until you've sparred full contact.
And no, Muay thai kicks are not as powerful as savate kicks. MUAY THAI KNEES & ELBOWS are far more destructive but just try and land one on a highly agile savate fighter.
There are a lot of Elite Male Athlete's who wear all in one tunics - weightlifters and track & field athletes for a start. I want someone to post the Francois Pennachio versus Ramon Dekker video on here - but then, Dekker lost of course!

Savate against real muay thai? I don't think anyone has ever done that before; and for good reason. Muay thai is considered to deadly.

"Clowns" maybe but "fairies" definately not !!
The "integral" outfit may soon be updated / changed.
I hope it becomes compulsory to wear a big red nose, ginger wigs and a squirt flower - we will look even more like "Clowns" then.

BTW - have you tried tapping in "Muay Thai V Savate"
You should.....you might be suprised !
savateuk 4 years ago
Muay Thai kicks are similar to being hit by a baseball bat.
Savate kicks are like being hit with an ice pick.
Neither are nice !!
I would love you to call me a "fairy" face to face - I'd bite ya nose off - ha ha ha.
