  • Talismans of Shannara by Terry Brooks

  • I read a book called tilt and it was about a kid with autism from the mom's pov. I really liked it. elizabeth burns is the author.

  • Dari, so what books did you end up reading?

  • Read 'The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night Time'. It's from the first-person perspecive of a kid with severe autism but is really smart in his own way and it's super addictive, easy to read. Or read 'Flowers for Algernon'. It's not about a kid, but it's about a mentally handicapped adult who receives new medical treatment to become smart, and he gets a new perspective of himself. It's crazy good it's one of my favourites. And short!

  • "we have always lived in the castle" Shirley Jackson. it's about two sisters who live closed up in their house after the rest of their family is poisoned. one of the sisters is a psychopath. if this doesn't fit the bill for your assignment, you should read it anyway. ^_^

btw, you're the only person i've seen with nails like that and it doesn't look tacky.

  • A Child called it was really depressing. :(

if this was for a Lit. class, i would recommend Les Miserables and a Tale of Two Cities.

  • My Sisters Keeper. i liked it.

  • what about perks of being a wallflower? i haven't read it yet. a friend did though, and LOVED it. it's about a kid who's gay. it's supposed to be really cute.

  • u look tired

  • really? that sucks..

  • DARI DO A VIDEO OF YOU IN BARNES AND NOBBLES AND DO A TIME LAPSE VIDEO VIDEO OF YOU READING please!

  • "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb...about an obese adolescent girl (if that counts)

Also, I second "The curious incident of the dog in the night time" by mark haddon

  • that was a good book

  • Book Suggestion: "One Child" by Torey Hayden. It's been years since I read it, but once you read it, you won't forget it. It almost made me want to be a teacher...ALMOST.

There are good reviews on Amazon that can help you decide if you want to read it or not.

  • the kite runner!!1

  • "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" by Mark Haddon. The main character is autistic; the book is very easy-to-read and eye-opening.

P.S. Nice industrial! I got one a few weeks ago.

  • I was gonna say that, but you already did :)

    Good book!

  • "Coming Out"(A Guide To Your Way Out Of The Closet)

    I forget the author.

  • There's a book by the guy from the news (can't remember which station)...it's called "Step Out on Nothing" he didn't learn to read til he was 12 and stuttered until he was 20...but is now on national news. I haven't read it yet, but I think it will be good.

  • The curious incident of the dog in the night-time' By Mark Haddon. Great book being told BY an autistic boy and is all in the perspective of how someone with autism would be viewing the world and telling you the story. It's a great book and not too long so it wouldnt take you long to read lol!

  • OH! and the book is orange!!! lol.

  • I was also going to recommend that book, I thought it was really good :]

  • Sybil by Flora Rheta Schrieber, she was a schitzo!!!!

  • read about helen keller.

  • i see a couple of ppl have already put down my suggestion...but it would definitely be

    "Push" by Sapphire

    It's amazing point-blank.

  • Aaaaaaand there's a new movie coming out based on "Push". Its produced by Oprah Winfrey && Tyler Perry. (So you know its good!)

Go watch the preview for "Precious" && you'll get an idea on what "Push" is about.

    :)

  • I was just about to say that :-) Im freaking out about watching the movie though..

  • did u say the panthers? hmmmm they did but the panthers.... i didnt kno people liked them

  • I LIKE THEM! and that's all that matters :)

  • "PUSH" By Sapphire is a HELLA good book

  • Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Adichie.

Its about a child whose parent is a religious fanatic growing up in a third world country.Culturally and socially I would say this is pretty diverse.

  • The best little girl in the world, by Steven Levenkron.

    A book about Anorexia Nervosa.

  • A child called it was sad. But it's still a great book. You could try GO ASK ALICE its sad too though.

  • PUSH by Sapphire....

  • bud not buddy is a great book but i dont kno if his situation is an acceptable disability

  • My Sisters Keeper? I don't know if it's something you need? But it's a really good book.

My Sister's Keeper is a novel written by Jodi Picoult in 2004 that tells the story of a young girl Anna who sues her parents for medical emancipation when she is expected to donate a kidney to her sister Kate who is dying from leukemia.

  • omg...they just made that book into a movie recently

  • "The God Delusion" -- Richard Dawkins

    Fuck children.

  • I Never Promised You A Rosegarden - Joanne Greenburg

It's about a young woman with mental disabilities...don't know if that is something that can work for your assignment...but it was a quick and interesting read!

  • Dari, have you thought to consider reading books about children who are ESL learners. (English Second Language) These children are often mis diagnosed and misplaced in public schools because of their language barrier. *q*

  • Jesus Land by Julia Scheeres

It's a pretty good read. Hopefully it's related to what you're asking for, it's more about diversity than handicaps.

  • hey yeah that is a really good book she should totally read that book

i got it through it yesterday

    it's about conjoined twins

  • The first book I thought of was "Are you there God it's me Margaret" I believe by Judy blume. a very ease read. You didn't say what level of reading you needed. And is that a real earring in your ear or a tongue ring that you liked? just asking. you are fun to watch and I love your videos!!!!

  • i know i'm late with this comment =/ but if you're talking about the bar in my ear it's a real earring!

it's called an industrial, it's waaay longer than a tongue ring barbell

  • There was a child's book called "Lilly and the Lost Boy" by Paula Fox...It's about a girl who visits Greece with her family and meets this boy who's father dosn't love/take care of/has nothing to do with him. He lives life to a different extreme...Not really handicapped, but different. Maybe...sorry.

  • My sister's keeper by Jodi Pecult..its so interesting! It was recently made into a movie so you can get a visual AFTER you read the book. A daughter was concieved to be a bone marrow donor for her older sister who has lukemia..sounds heavy but its very interesting and has a comical relief to it. LOVED IT!

  • oh damn. my suggestion has nothing to do with your project haha.

  • YEA. WATCH THE VIDEO NEXT TIME MISTER.

you aren't very good at giving tips for life

    your name is a lie.

  • Take my advice above all others: Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay. You won't be disappointed. She's an australian author and there was a beautiful film made that you can watch to help you digest easier....do it.

  • the speed of dark by elizabeth moon

  • What's the name of the class? A Child Called It? Why would she recommend that one? Anyway, here are some good ones dealing with diff. forms of autism:

    1. The Same Difference by Deborah Jacons (about twin sister's; one has aspergers while the other one has severe autism.

    2. Are You Alone On Purpose by Nancy Werlin

    3. Dibs: In Search of Self by Virginia Axline

    4. Al Capone Does My Shirts by????

Hope this helps, Dari! Good luck!!

  • Correction: jacoBs :)

  • A BOY Called It is a good book, but I thought that you had to read about a child with a disability...his mom was mentally ill which caused him to be a victim of child abuse. That might work...

  • The Darkest Child.

  • ok Dari: you mus read: THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT TIME...

  • I work in a bookstore. if you want something deep, I suggest "look me in the eye" by john elder robison. its about a man growing up with aspergers. but my personal pick if you want to laugh out loud hardcore is "I'm down" by Mishna Wolff. thats about a white girl that lives with her white family in a black neighborhood in the 70's and her dad thinks he is black. he has no respect for his daughter because she acts too "white" in his eyes. its hillarious and I think you would like that one.

  • i don't read books. I have better stuff to do. Even if i need to read a book for a project i just don't do it.
