before anything I agree that I have never seen any evidence of haidong gumdo as a traditional martial art
how ever from a martial artist's point of view kendo, iaido and haidong gumdo are completly diferent, kendo atacks in striaght lines and very fast, iaido is more circular but dosen't practice combat, haidong gumdo has a movement similar to that of aikido, also uses circles and curve lines in it's main style
I'm not saying that haidong gumdo is traditional korean martial art but is not a copy

@kaisermuto yes, I'm not talking about haidong gumdo being traditional or new, I didn't study korean/chinese history to say you are right or wrong, and even if i did, I wasn't there so I can't be 100% sure of historic factes, everyone makes up their own stories, what I am saying however, as someone how has actually grabbed a shinai and fought against kendokas, medieval sword fighters and haidong gumdo practicioners is that the style is very circular, not even close of being a copy
Why doesn't HDGD use the Korean sword? KURIGATA and SAGEO for thrusting into a belt are the features of Japanese sword. It is the similar Japanese sword. I never find such the Korean old sword or Korean soldier's photograph.

I'm practising Kendo and I now a bit of Japan's history. You seem to forget that Japanese people actually come from Korea, which explains the common cultural roots, including martial arts.
These Korean martial arts shown at the expo for sure have similarities with Iaido, Kendo and more. But nobody is trying to make you believe that Iaido or Kendo actually come from Korea.

For what I see kumdo uses lots of two sword and one hand sword techniques not present in kendo.

Kendo is a modern semplification of kenjutsu so I don't see any reason for all the fuss around which style is traditional as they are both modern. The things you talk about are basicly the component of kenjutsu that has been stripped in kendo. Btw wasn't the shoto also used in closed enviroments as the daito was handed over at entrences of buildings?

@kaisermuto more like 300years.. there have been may korean kings fighting each other from before the chinese allied with silla. Don't get carried away, this is not about korea/japan rivalty, but about fighting styles. I saw sword forms in korean arts (not haedong) that use shaolin like stances and know shaolin uses double longsword. Korea just takes in any technique that proves to be effectine and i think it's a good thing. If now they try to take merit of japan i don't care..

Actually Yangbangs could take education but casual people could not take education. Yangbang looked down to Hangul, so they did not use Hangul, they used only Kanji(chinese character). I sometimes wonder if there is any sense of "fairness" in Korean society. From their horrible history which had been under China for such a long time and even their own ruling people kept stealing and raping their own people...... I wouldn't be surprised that they lost the sense of justice and fairness to the others in their society. We could find many examples even now at international spots game events which Koreans got involved in and ended up destroying their reputations......shame.

I don't understand purpose of this video; Korea is not stealing anything.
I'm practising Kendo and I now a bit of Japan's history. You seem to forget that Japanese people actually come from Korea, which explains the common cultural roots, including martial arts.
These Korean martial arts shown at the expo for sure have similarities with Iaido, Kendo and more. But nobody is trying to make you believe that Iaido or Kendo actually come from Korea.

@kaisermuto actually the "question" was in an other comment,sorry. Just wanted to punctualize that haedong is different from japanese sword styles. Kendo is a modern semplification of kenjutsu so I don't see any reason for all the fuss around which style is traditional as they are both modern. The things you talk about are basicly the component of kenjutsu that has been stripped in kendo. Btw wasn't the shoto also used in closed enviroments as the daito was handed over at entrences of buildings?

Tatami mat of his left side. This is casual manners. But in the castle, long sword must be in his room or cloak room. But samurai must take short sword even in front of lord. For if lord order him suicide, he must use his short sword. Any way short sword means samurai style.

I saw sword forms in korean arts (not haedong) that use shaolin like stances and know shaolin uses double longsword. Korea just takes in any technique that proves to be effectine and i think it's a good thing. If now they try to take merit of japan i don't care..

While going through the comments, I've noticed that the comments from Koreans are always hysteric insults without any objective evidences to correct supposedly "wrong" information in the video.
It sounds pretty fair to me what is shown in the video. Koreans tend to get mad once their errors are pointed out, but what is really important for them is to acknowledge their wrongness and brush up their own culture.

The Population doubled; life expectancy doubled, and the first textbooks written in Hangul were published. 刀工の数や製法をみればすべては分かる。いくら韓国で剣道や侍を主張しても日本刀をつくれなければ意味を持たない。韓国産の玉鋼など聞いたことはない。刃紋のない韓国刀と本物の日本刀どちらが優れているかは言うに及ばない。
